AlfaOBD Tips and Tricks

Hi. Does anyone know if you can change the fuel tank capacity using alpha obd? I have fitted a 205 Litre (54 gallon) fuel tank and the range to empty has not changed. Yet I am getting about 250 to 300 km’s more using the trip meter.
There is a current thread on the 5th Gen forum where one of your mates down under is asking the same thing. Doesn’t appear to work, but the story isn’t quite over yet.
Thread 'Issue using AlfaOBD to recalibrate fuel gauge using VehConfig 3-Fuel Capacity (36-290)'

I wanted to post something to put together some tips, tricks and programming that can be done using this tool.

For example, amber DRL's:

Body Computer
Select the Body Computer for your year
Select procedure to start: Car configuration change
Select option:
1) ECUConfig 3: DRL Customer Setting Option Present; Select value: Yes
2) CBC Features: DRL Configuration; Select value: Optional DRL
3) CBC Features: DRL Lamp Location; Select value: Turn Signal
4) CBC Features: DRL Dropout Enabled; Select value: Yes
5) CBC Features: LED Dedicated DRL Present; Select value: No
6) Cust.Set.Menu 1: Daytime running lights CSM Present; Select value: Yes
7) Customer Program Features: Daytime Running Lamps ; Select value: Enabled

Do a 30 second key off when changing values.

To get the tools needed are the OBD cable adapter ($17), the OBD2 Link MX+ ($140), and the AlfaOBD app ($49).

If you have any information regarding AlfaOBD and its uses, please share with everyone. Thanks!
Got mine enabled today! Thank you so much for the guide!

Is there any difference between the PC version and the Android version? Do they have identical capability?

Also has anyone used JScan… any commentary on how well it works relative to AlfaOBD?

@Jimmy07

Can AlfaOBD make the mirror lights dual running lights and turn signal lights?

Or can you make a harness or something we can do for plug and play?

I finally got around to disabling the seatbelt chime. The ignition has to be in the "ON" position ("MAR" in AlfaOBD language) to do this change. AlfaOBD kept disconnecting from the instrument panel within about 10 seconds, so I had to get through the procedure quickly. I finally got it to change to "disabled" after 3-4 tries. I also disabled the fog light dropout.

Going to hopefully add the ACC switch, DRL and tailgate ajar settings this weekend. Question about changing values. Can I change all of those at the same time or should I do one set, do a 30 second key off and then do the next set and so on??

I've always done one at a time. Not sure why but probably someone smarter than me told me that.

I have read this too. Do 1 at a time. From my understanding it is more that you save the current settings. Make a change and be sure it works. If it works move to next. But If it does not you can easily go back to your previous settings which is only 1. If you happen to change 3-5 things and 1 does not work you may not know exactly which settings to change back and your previous saved settings has all 3-5 settings you changed. Now you have to go and redo them again individually. And some changes like amber DRL is not just changing 1 value but a few.

Hope this makes sense I was writing quick from my phone...

So with the DRL settings having 7 of them, you recommend change one setting...do the 30 second key off and then go to the next? Fair enough.

That definitely gets tricky. I think you may need all 7 to be changed to work correctly. Doing each before I was under the impression do the 7 for DRL. Test and make sure it works. Now do whichever settings for Tailgate ajar. Test and make sure it works. Now do 3rd item. Test. This is my understanding of doing 1 at a time. I only did DRL so I did the 7 as you mention at once than tested. I was thinking of doing others afterwards but never have.

If you change all the correct ones you can do as many as you want. It is more for if something does not work right or you accidentally click the wrong thing and you want to go back to previous setting.

Assuming this works on a 24?

Also, I have the Vlinker FS usb https://www.vgatemall.com/products-detail/i-19/ which I use on my superduty with forscan. I'm assuming it would work for this? And for the security bypass, in this thread I've seen about 3 or 4 different ones. Do any of them do something different than the other or basically should I just go with the cheapest/most available one?

Just have a few things I want to do, mainly the seatbelt chime really for now.

Thanks!

The '24's are the same as far as I know.

I don't know if that vLinker FS you linked is compatible with your TRX. These are products that will work.

emailed alfa odb support. Incase anyone has one laying around, the vLinker FS will work. in their words, its actually a good choice. so now I just need to wait for the security cable thing to come!

So I've been going to change my DRLs for 8 months now and still havent...lol. I did manage to go through and check the 7 and 4 of the 7 were already what they needed to be if memory serves. I saved the current settings on the truck as suggested and checked there. Not sure if that helps.

If I do Amber DRL using AlphaOBD does it leave codes the dealership will pick up on? Same as tuning?

I am coming from Tazer but I stopped using it months ago because it was too glitchy. I only used live settings, did not even marry it, and my amber lights would sometimes glitch out and drop out after using the signal and not come back on.

Willing to give AlphaOBD a try if it is a more reliable and safer way of getting the desired results.

Changes are logged so the dealer can find what you did.

They are not logged- the dealer’s tool can not see that a BCM setting was changed from “x” to “y”.
They can generate a configuration report, and see what settings are currently set to.
So, in this instance of amber DRL’s, the normal factory setting for CBC Features: DRL Lamp Location is Low Beam DRL, and you change it to Turn Signal DRL (to get amber DRL’s), it will just show that- that setting as currently being set to Turn Signal DRL.
EVEN IF they where specifically looking at that setting (for some odd reason), and the tech somehow knows it should be Low Beam DRL, they’ll probably just say “well that’s strange”, and just perform the restore vehicle configuration routine. But the odds of that are highly unlikely if they are diagnosing some unrelated warranty claim.
