AlfaOBD Tips and Tricks

That means you enabled the low beams. Is that what you want?
Was thinking I wanted to have the DRLs amber, after reading what jimmy07 said, enable them in the uconnect, then change 2 settings with alfa. I have made 0 changes except the tailgate ajar warning with alfa. The screenshots were just my alfa backup of the truck on Google drive with DRLs toggled off in uconnect. May just leave it alone, if it can happen, it will happen to me...lol

Since the DRLs are the low beams, making them amber isn't going to happen. Unless you put amber bulbs in there, and I'm not even sure they're replaceable.
I think that's what everyone that's done it is calling it, amber DRLs when in fact it's the signature lighting that's amber. I'm not sure and I'm not that interested in trying it. I like the look, but I'm not familiar with stuff like this to try it. Maybe a video will come out start to finish.

Which for the life of me I can't figure out why someone hasn't done that.

Sure would be nice for those who just want to see how it's done without guess work.

Which one of you fine gents wants to be the "alpha Amber DLR" hero?😁🇺🇲

Yep. But when Ram doesn't call it DRL it doesn't really matter what other people call it. Their programming doesn't know or care about other interpretations.

It's bit like with air bags. Many, maybe most, refer to air springs as air bags. In reality, air bags are in the cab and supposed to prevent injuries in collisions.

Agreed, it's been done and looks good. Unfortunately I'm not talented enough to go messing with something I know nothing about. Too many different versions of how to get it done. Like the Tazer, not saying it's a bad product, but not wanting to use it because I would jack something up and be on here asking for help...lol.

You’re simply using alfaobd to change the DRL lamp location from the low beams bulbs to the turn signals, which are amber. Then disable the signature lighting (which are the white strips above and below the headlamps and are on anytime the truck is running).

This is the amber that AlfaOBD... yes it is the signature lighting. Not the low or high beam.

Your explanation I understand and makes sense. You stated that the settings (7) should be correct from the factory on US trucks and mine are not. 2,3,4,5, and 7 from the alfa back up would need to be changed. Is that because DLRs are disabled in uconnect? I guess this is where my confusion is.

I’ll go through them one by one:
1) ECUConfig 3: DRL Customer Setting Option Present; Select value: Yes:
That one is irrelevant to a 5th gen bcm, and would be defaulted to yes anyway.

2) CBC Features: DRL Configuration; Select value: Optional DRL:
This should be “no drl” from the factory, and stays that way. There is no dedicated DRL circuit on the 5th gen bcm, so optional drl is irrelevant.

3) CBC Features: DRL Lamp Location; Select value: Turn Signal:
That one does get changed from low beam to turn signal.

4) CBC Features: DRL Dropout Enabled; Select value: Yes:
That one means that the corresponding DRL lamp will shut off when the turn signal is used. Since the turn signal itself is the drl, this setting is irrelevant.

5) CBC Features: LED Dedicated DRL Present; Select value: No:
Same as above- no dedicated DRL circuit, so irrelevant setting.

6) Cust.Set.Menu 1: Daytime running lights CSM Present; Select value: Yes:
That one is already set to yes on all US market rams (this is the setting that puts the drl toggle in the radio settings under lights).

7) Customer Program Features: Daytime Running Lamps ; Select value: Enabled:
All that setting does is toggles the drl on or off, just like you do in the radio settings.

Then there’s the missing setting that is not mentioned-
CBC Extern.Light Calibr.: Signature Light Present- NO
So, the upper and lower strips have two sets of LEDs in them- white and amber. Obviously the amber serve as the turn signals, and DRLs when configured that way. The white leds serve two purposes- signature lighting when the truck is running without the headlights on, and parking lights when the headlights are on.
If you don’t turn the signature lights off, they will be on in the background when amber DRLs are on. It will be hard to see because they are dim as signature lighting and the amber overpowers them, but they will still be running in the background.

Now this makes sense and thank you! Last question, enable DRLs in the radio before or after or does it matter?

That really clears it all up and makes sense. I also had 5 settings out of the 7 to change. I never checked for the amber until I checked all 7 spots. Being irrelevant it did not matter but my OCD is still glad I changed all 5 hahaha.

Watching the video I come up with a question.

Has anyone had their Amber's actually "burnout" by using them this way? (Or with Tazer I guess for that matter) inquiring minds want to know!

Also off topic. Can you use Alpha to program your power steps to show up in uconnect? If yes, the steps for that would be nice to hear too!

Thanks in advance🇺🇲

Mopar power steps yes with AlfaOBD. I added it on my 2023. I do not remember exactly what I changed but I will look. I think I may have seen it earlier in this thread or there was a link to another thread.

Cust.Set. Menu 2: Automatic Side Step CSM
Present: Yes
Cust.Set.Menu 3: Power Side Step Enable/ Disable CSM Present: Yes
Cabin Net: PSSM Power Side Step Module: Enabled

Well, they’re the same spec LED chips as the signature/parking light strips, so how long are those on vs how long are the DRL turn signals are on. Probably same duty cycle.

For the power side steps:
CustSetMenu 2: Automatic Side Step CSM Present- YES
CustSetMenu 3: Power Side Step Enable/Disable CSM Present- YES
