AlfaOBD Tips and Tricks

Yes, you need to reset the ABS module with AlfaOBD, but it's really simple. I attached the instruction for making the change and resetting the ABS module. They're older instructions, so you'll just have to select your year in the menus. The new tire size might screw up your ParkSense sensors. Not sure if AlfaOBD is capable of fixing that.
Thank you! I plan on using this to fix the ParkSense.

Hey guys,
I finally got my Toyo AT3s (37x12.50R18) on. I'm about to use AlfaOBD to update the tire size, but I'm hitting a wall. Toyo's site says they're 36.5", but they're measuring at 35.5" on the truck. Should I punch in the spec sheet number or go with the actual measurement? Or is this just a total trial-and-error thing?

Edit: This is the steps Google's Gemini is telling me to do.

Let’s reset and take it one clear phase at a time. Because your truck is a 2021, you will need a Security Gateway (SGW) bypass cable plugged in behind your instrument cluster or radio to allow AlfaOBD to write these changes.

Turn your ignition to RUN (engine off), open AlfaOBD, and follow these exact steps.

Phase 1: Program the New Size in the BCM

  1. Select Ram 1500 (Truck) as your model, select Body Computer, and connect to your truck's specific BCM.
  2. Tap the Car Icon with the open hood (Procedures/Diagnostics menu).
  3. Select the dropdown menu and choose Program Tire Size.
  4. Input your baseline rolling circumference: 2833 mm (this corresponds to your actual 35.5" measured height).
  5. Tap Start and wait for it to report a successful write.

Phase 2: Perform the PROXI Alignment

Do not disconnect from the BCM or turn off the truck yet.

  1. Staying in that same Car Icon (Procedures) menu, tap the dropdown again.
  2. Scroll down and select PROXI Alignment Procedure.
  3. Tap Start.
  4. Your dashboard will flash, bells will chime, and your center screen may reboot. This is completely normal.
  5. Wait until AlfaOBD explicitly says the procedure was successful.

Phase 3: Initialize the ABS Module

  1. Disconnect from the Body Computer.
  2. Change your unit selection to Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS), select your system, and connect.
  3. Tap the Car Icon with the open hood to open the ABS procedures.
  4. Select Initialize ECU (on some versions of AlfaOBD, this may be listed as ABS Module Initialization or Reset Aberrant Parameters).
  5. Tap Start. This forces the ABS to pull the 2833 mm layout from the BCM.

Phase 4: Clear the Network Codes

Because you just forced multiple computers to reboot, they will have thrown temporary communication errors.

  1. While still connected to the ABS, go to the Battery Icon (Faults menu) and tap Clear Faults.
  2. Disconnect from the ABS, connect back to the Body Computer (BCM), go to the Faults menu, and tap Clear Faults.
  3. Disconnect from the truck entirely and close AlfaOBD.

Phase 5: The Sleep Cycle (Crucial)

  1. Turn the truck's ignition completely OFF.
  2. Open the driver door, then close it (this kills the delayed accessory power).
  3. Walk away from the truck for at least 5 to 10 minutes. The modules must completely drop into a deep sleep mode to cache the new configurations.

Phase 6: Verify and Fine-Tune

  1. Start the truck. Your dash should be completely clear of ABS or Traction Control lights.
  2. Bring up a GPS speedometer app on your phone and take the truck for a spin.
  3. Check your speed at a steady 60 MPH:
    • If GPS matches your dash: You are done!
    • If GPS is faster than your dash: The truck thinks the tire is smaller than it is. Go back to Phase 1 and increase your number slightly (try 2855 mm), then repeat the PROXI and ABS steps.
    • If GPS is slower than your dash: The truck thinks the tire is larger than it is. Go back to Phase 1 and decrease your number slightly (try 2810 mm), then repeat the PROXI and ABS steps.

Using the static loaded radius or revs/mile will get you the closest. Then fine tune as/if necessary.

Draw a chalk line across your tread, then drive forward a rotation or two. Measure the distance between chalk lines imparted to the ground, and you’ve got your precise number. Two rotations is better than one (using the average measurement).

Thanks, I'll use your method.

Never considered doing that, but even with two revolutions it's probably hard to match the accuracy of the manufacturer's 600-700 revs per mile number.

At least if using the numbers for correct tire size and if the tires are correctly inflated.

I'm no math genius, so I just let Gemini do it's thing. Based on 222 5/8" for two full revolutions, it came out to a circumference of 2827.34 mm. I'm about make the changes with AlfaOBD and see how it goes. I'll let you guys know if it's spot on after the first try.

EDIT:
@Eighty, thanks for the help. My speedo is dead on now after the first try. ParkSense is out, but I'm gonna check out that Zauto fix and see if it helps.
