2023+ digital cluster swap (COMPLETE WRITE UP)

Stick a fork in her boys, she’s done. I have gone further than anyone else and now have a 100% fully functional 2023 2021 TRX.

2023 cluster, BCM, radio module, screen, and CVPM if anyone is keeping track. I will be re-writing this thread with clear directions and different “stages” to the swap at some point soon. Just in case there’s anyone else who hates money and free time as much as I do.

Anyway, I love UC5 already. The customization is so much better than UC4. I don’t really care about the wireless CarPlay but I guess that’s cool too.
Overall…damn it’s a nice place to be. Feels like a new truck again.

Absolutely amazing? If I can be so bold, what was the final pricetag for all of this? You should trademark your instructions!

You want the real cost or what I told my wife?

Honestly I’m into it for around $3500. And I think I’ve done things about as cheaply as possible when it comes to sourcing the parts at this point. Of course another consideration is selling the old stuff. Through which I can probably get around a third of that back. At least kinda takes the edge off.

That's cheaper than I would have thought actually... Nicely done!
Of course some of the cheap skates on this forum will tell you it's too much money, but I just spent Seven Grand on a falcon Northwest PC so seems pretty cheap to me!🤣

Again... excellent work bro... makes me tempted too follow suit , except I still like my analog Old School dash... but who knows 😬🇺🇲

ps. I wonder if this voided your warranty?

Thanks bud. Certainly voided whatever I touched and they might get a little confused if I need to bring it in. But the powertrain warranty should still be good to go. And hey, I had to have a dealer do the BCM so they can’t blame me for anything relating to that at least.

Outstanding! What would you need if you're coming from a 2022 with UC5 already? Cluster and 2023 BCM?

Would these same costs apply to a 2022/UC5 already installed? Will the same BCM/etc nuances apply? GREAT JOB MAN! NEVER....GIVE....UP....!!!!

for anybody with 2022 already with uc5 you would still need to update to the 2023 radio module if you want the complete functionality of the digital dash.

LOL! My guess is that you wife thinks it cost about $350! I always leave at least one zero off of the real cost of things I buy for my vehicles. Well done!

You guys would certainly have it a little easier/ cheaper. You will still at a minimum need a 2023 BCM and 2023 radio module. But since you already have UC5 you won’t need a new screen, and won’t need the UC4 adapter cables either. So you’d be saving a good chunk of money between those two items alone, not to mention some time and effort.

Only thing I am not 100% sure of is if the 2022 CVPM (surroundview module) will work with the 2023 radio. I strongly suspect it will. I am using the 2023 version because the 2021 unit would never work with UC5. If I had a 2022 I’d certainly try the original CVPM first. If it works that’s another $300+ saved vs my swap and no hassle with calibration either.

Just re-wrote the entire original post since it was becoming confusing and we learned a lot over the last month. Now everyone can follow along and do the different stages of this swap as they choose. 👍

When I did gauge swap on an old vehicle the mileage was held on the circuit board. Wonder if this may apply?

Great write up you definitely have me wanting to attempt this!!!!
When we swap ip’s at the factory , mileage goes to actual on vehicle as in trans tcm and pcm and bcm etc. and even when doing big 3 change which is rf hub and bcm and pcm it’ll start with 0 miles but updates automatically. Probably stored in every electrical device as updates are done.

You can’t put a price on safety! This was merely an upgrade to you and your family’s safety while in the truck…
:ROFLMAO:

i'm seeing a new screen $820 shipped... no core charge....

or at least its not mentioned.

is the core charge like 100% with all sellers?

If you're looking at the part number from the OP, I'm not sure that's the correct one.

Here is what I get when I search that number:

That looks to me to be the standard analog guages.

The digital ones look like this:

Not sure which one is correct as I haven't seen a cluster with the part number sticker on it to verify.

yup u are right that part # isnt right i think

38631942ab is the part im finding them for 1200 like you

As of a few months ago the core charge still applied, and any of the online vendors will just cancel the order. As I understand it, Ram handles their clusters on an exchange basis. Even if one fails under warranty they send it off to a third party for possible repair, and if replacement is necessary the new one also needs to go through the third party for mileage correction. They handle basically none of it in house.

A few guys have had luck getting a parts guy at a local dealer to order one but it doesn’t come cheap.

And I wasn’t just guessing when I made the list of part numbers. I have the cluster in my truck. It’s an AG revision whereas the latest is AH.

Regardless of whatever cartoon picture is on Ram’s parts site, it IS the correct part.

the part numbers get confusing so many revisions and half the websites are incorrect i feel

all good man!
