RAVELCO THREAD

thought I would share since it was a comical "i'm from the internet and know everything" Someone asked on a different forum about theft prevention, I suggested the Ravelco. Someone proceeds to say how he disables them in a matter of seconds.... and that it will not stop a thief at all. Said he used to work at a dealer and would routinely when taking them out "do a quality wiring job and have it wrapped up in less than 5 min" Now i watched mine get put in.... Aint no way your just pulling that thing out in seconds and expecting everything to just work.
Not to mention if they were that gimmicky they would get some bad reviews or negative connotation.
How is he disabling them? You don’t. Dude is full of shit.

My compustar installer, commenting on my ravelco, said he could bypass it but it would take an hour - and that my compustar would have alerted me that someone was in my truck so he wouldn’t have an hour to do it

post 437 tells you everything you need to know. As Tom said it's nothing but splicing and having several wires looking identical, same color, which makes it harder to trace them.. You can install your own and build your own Ravelco. Just read post 437

This is inaccurate. They were quoting a Russian site that makes the IGLA system, same with the guy posting he could get around it in 5 minutes. It is more than just spliced in wires and is blended into at least two systems, when properly installed. It looks like part of the regular harness, and is wrapped and protected under the dash. If it were so simple, why can they still state “5 million sold, with zero stolen vehicles in 40 years”? You would think they would have been sued by now if this were a lie.

it's only spliced wires..buy one from ebay (if any available) or offer up and reverse engineer it . The whole 5 million, 0 stolen is just a marketing ad. Someone did the math and it was impossible to install that many or have that many combinations, or something of sorts. Any detterent is better than no detterent but you are not getting more than identical length, same color wires with the cap that makes contact when inserted. The install makes the diference , an experienced installer can make it blend with stock harness better . That's all...There's nothing in it to make it special no resistor, no relay, no chip nothing.

As stated on the website, there are copies being made in Russia and Mexico, they are not Ravelco. Also, it is more than spliced wires. They are hidden, matched in color, armored, and wired into at least two systems that keep it from being started. Believe what you want from competitors. It has the best history of success, is not produced in Russia (IGLA), and is as easy as any other system to use.

Please post the supposed math that makes it impossible to install 5 million worldwide in 40 years. There are people in this thread alone that have 3 right now and had others in the past.

Every system can be defeated given enough time. If it takes more than minutes to beat the system, it is unlikely they will take your vehicle. I have multiple systems Ravelco, GPS, dash cams, wheel locks, Uconnect. Even together they are a deterrent, not a perfect solution.

Neat. I reverse engineered a painting the other day and it was just dry pigment, linseed oil and canvas... surely, I can just purchase all those things and recreate it.

If I handed you a puffer fish and a knife, it doesn't mean you can make it into Fugu.

Absolutely. If someone can trace out the Ravelco wires, and splice the connections back together, why can't I just find the IGLA wires, cut the connections to the CAN and LIN busses, and then just start the truck? I don't even need to re-splice anything on IGLA... just deny it the ability to talk on the bus, and it's defeated.

If it was designed and installed by a human being, then it can be defeated by another human being. What matters most is the knowledge and time needed to defeat it. Time is the criminals enemy

I don’t recall ever reading a post where someone is complaining that their vehicle was stolen with Ravelco installed. Seems like there would be some posts if it was possible to bypass
Exactly, but the armchair, internet experts are always out here, crawling around and spewing their typical nonsense.

Guys, I have read about half of this thread and see that Bret is the SouthEastern installer.

Does anyone know if he travels to Atlanta?

Is there anyone else who does installs in Atlanta?

Thanks!

I just added a Viper alarm with GPS so I get notified if someone is screwing with my truck! Since they can't drive it off, I'll know if they are trying to tow it or when they break inside.

Thanks!

I think Bret told me (while installing mine in middle Tennessee) that he served much of the East coast!

. . . I am going to wager a strong " most likely" to answer your question.

p.s. He's out of southern Tennessee...closer to you than he is to me.

Just had my 6th Ravelco install - Brett has done all six and has done them nicely - and yes indeed he told me he does do Atlanta as you suspected.
