RAVELCO THREAD

I have my Ravelco install with Chuck in about 2 hours.

Of those who have installed this system, who is putting the Ravelco stickers on the windows?
Installed stickers. Front driver's and passenger's windows. For me, the deterrent value (e.g., saved broken windows) outweighs the risk of it resulting in a better prepared thief. What are they going to do anyway, tow it away? In most cases, I see them moving on to easier targets.

To each their own.

Lol yes that's what they are doing

Then they're going to get everyone's TRX, regardless of Revelco or otherwise . . . lol. The device reduces the pool of capable thieves and gives them that one option, in theory. The sticker arguably warns the incapable pool before they break glass and move on. It's all a guessing and probability game. I'm OK with my odds . . . especially considering where I tend to park when not in my home garage (modified slightly to fit the beast). Worst case, insurance. GL to everyone.

More worrisome than the TRX getting jacked (due to seemingly low odds of that) is the theft of my conceal carries, which I can't take into the office. I'll look for any threads on that topic.

Nothing is theft proof. Just wait til the 1st TRX with Ravelco is stolen and everyone starts crying bloody murder.

It'll at least be with a flatbed.

As mentioned, if they are balling with a flatbed then there's not much we can do. GPS tracker hidden on the body will assist.

It will be defeated eventually if this becomes too popular. Stolen cars is a 4 billion dollars "business" and they'll find a way to beat it if too many cars has the white ugly thing sticking out of the dash. Theyll go after mine 1st but once they are done with it , they'll take yours as well.

Well, you said it, they will go after yours first. That is worth the $600+ cost of this device right there.

Illogical, defeatist argument--implicitly "everything will be defeated, so don't do anything." Same "logic" applies to alarms, door locks and even doors on our homes (they can circumvent; it's a big business); the value of exercise to longevity (might get hit by a bus; we're all gonna die anyway); and anything else that improves odds without guaranteeing a result. I'm just looking for improved protection, not guaranteed protection. For that, I'd leave it locked in my garage and hire 24/7 armed security.

If you don't like the look of an "ugly thing" the diameter of a quarter barely visible under your dash, then don't buy it. You've brought nothing to the table in terms proof that it doesn't reduce the odds of a theft.

P.S. - Thanks for giving the TRX thieves an easier target, but looks like we live too far apart for it to be of value. ;)

My Ravelco system is being installed right now. Went out and snapped a few pictures of the under-dash install (I went with the vertical hidden look).

Anyone have multiple vehicles equipped with Revelco and tried switching the caps to see if it would start up ? No way it works but has anyone tried ?

if @Eighty has it installed right now and if the installer is still there he can ask the installer to try a cap from a diferent Ravelco from his tool box to see if the cap works or not

Just came back in (he's done, and just left). But he told me that if someone tried plugging in a different cap, it would likely blow a fuse. He has the "other" wires run to ground, so depending on which connections were made, it would blow the fuse for the starter or the fuel pump.

Wouldn't that defeat the purpose? If I am a thief, all I need to do is get a cap that fits all?.
There are 16 pins involved, so just a rough calculation, there are 65,536 possible combinations with the pins.

He said there are more than 100,000 combinations (probably at least one more combination that you didn't figure, like "all open"). But yes, you'd need to have a bag with as many as 100,000 caps in it. And every time you blow a fuse, replace it and try a different cap.
Each system has a 4-digit serial number on it (for reordering replacement caps).

On a related note..............

For those of us who intend to carry their Ravelco plug on their key ring, but want it easily detachable so their fob and other keys aren't dangling from it (and thus stressing the connection over time and/or banging into your dash and leg), I did some research and found this:

(picture also attached)

It is an air hose quick disconnect with two holes drilled into it for the split rings. All nickel-plated steel, made by Amflo in Memphis, TN. Quality that is worth the additional dollar or two IMHO to ensure the cap does not depart your keyring after six months or experience corrosion (like a cheap one from Amazon might do). They are kind of hard to find actually, but I found them at the link above and they are only $8 each.

He gave me two of these when I paid.

A 4-digit code is all that is needed to order replacement caps? That would indicate there are only about ~ 9999 combinations. HHHmmmm.........

Mine are all numbers, but some could be letters as well. Which would increase the possible combinations to 1,679,616.
