Cons of Interchiller - In humid environments

So I asked Kirk about this and he said the window is 45mins - 2hours after shut down. Here are his exact words:

The condensation unless tuned out or removed can and does cause hesitation when starting between 45min and 2hrs after shut down. Between 0-45min the condensation doesn’t fall enough. After 2hrs it has evaporated.

Firstly we recommend the tuner simply add more fuel to the hot start table this dilutes the condensation and the issue is resolved.

Or, you can turn the AC off 2min before home, the give it a little rev. Or simply give it a little rev and key off at 3000-4000rpm

What happens here is you blow it clear of anything and since the throttle body is closed no new air will enter and form condensation.

Or lastly place the intercooler pump on a switch.
I love learning from this group!

That sounds pretty much spot on................

I don't worry about it at all. If I have to hit the start button twice, it is what it is and that usually only happens when it's on full e85. On the flex setup, it hasn't happened that I remember.

No I appreciate your input as you may very well be correct about the beer chiller. Bonus of that being true is i'd have another place to keep my beer cold (but not frozen) haha

So right now Kirk's kit is $2426 shipped. I found a 10% coupon code but not getting anywhere near $1600. That would have to be about 35% off sale. You sure that wasnt a few years ago (like before FI offered a true plug & play?)

This was actually June of this year.

Dam! He said these prices wont happen again tho - hopefully he's lying lol!
You are still considering the FI Chiller?

would be nice if it could be setup to run a bit cooler than stock, hit aux switch and go full blast that way you don't have to always worry about condensation.

Well after Kirk responded to me within 1 minute and answered almost all my questions after a few back & forth emails, his customer svc appears to be top notch as well. I like the idea of a plug/play system and the condensation issue doesnt seem to be as bad as having to WOT every time before i get home lol so i'm keeping my options open. If he runs a 30% off sale then i'd be inclined to go that direction. On the other hand, it does seem that his kit may not be compatible with my behind the grill lights from Brawler so that may be a dealbreaker for that kit. I know Boosted is working with IC Chiller to ensure his chiller works with behind the grill light kit so we shall see.

We are also working on the plug n play option. Kirk talks shit about everyone, that's his way of promoting his brand. Everyone else talks about their own product. As for the whole beer chiller comment.... that has become a joke that even IC Chiller users use. If you think about it, even beer chillers require refrigeration too.... lol

There is nothing in the IC Chiller kit that wasn't specifically designed and made for these kits. They are also made by the major manufacturers that supply the OEM so quality is top notch.

Maybe, maybe not. Idk the quality on the IC Chiller brand but I know weaponx was caught using cheap cores years ago that were made for beer coolers…which are never intended to go under the hood of a vehicle operating in a 200 deg environment with shock and vibe. There are variations in quality that matter. And they usually show up as slow leaks after a decent amount of time. Maybe I’m over engineering this idea since we deal with pressure vessels on launch vehicles so I think about the insanely high quality that we need for materials, welds, etc. I have heard good customer responses about IC Chillers but I have never owned one to compare directly to the competition and idk if those positive references also take into account the cheaper cost (ie. People like a nice bargain even if it does eventually break). For now I’ll go with FI and it will be my third through them, never having an issue, and never seeing anyone else beat their performance.

He didnt sound super interested in a plug/play option as he said that would raise the price by about $6-700. Either way, Im interested and anxiously awaiting your install Bill!

The first true plug n play kit for Super Stock's is on mine with hardlines and all. Once we dig into my truck, we will come up with something for the TRX's as well.

Do you know who else uses the same parts as found on the WeaponX brand?

I get the whole brand loyalty bit. Can't blame someone for sticking with a brand that they are familiar with and without issues.

Haha dont get that one started again or Nitro will put us all in timeout haha

1 thing I just found out - the FI kit includes a condenser and fan. Basically you take the OEM heat exchanger out and put a condenser that looks just like the heat exchanger and a fan gets mounted to the front of it. Not sure why this is necessary and only included in the FI kit (not IC or Ripa/etc) but perhaps that is part of the reason the FI kit overperforms?? I can tell you from past experience mounting a fan to anything, it will not hold up to the type of offroading we do.

I like this idea of the IC pump on a switch or an aux. I have the Ripa Interchiller and here in the Midwest recently we had some nasty humidity and 80%+ dew point. Several rough starts. Normal weather since then and zero issues.

When it's that hot out shutting off the ac to warm the IC coolant sucks... Shutting the pump off wouldn't tho, unless a 5 minute drive with no flow would somehow affect the coolant in the interchiller, or throw a code of some sort...

Curious to know if it would work for those nasty sticky days 🤔

When you had those rough starts, were they within 45 to 2hours of shut down like FI says? Also, did you try doing a rev before shutdown to see if that helped? J/w how much of what i hear is true in real world application

It was about 45-1hr first couple times. Then it happened running into the gas station.

The in and out of a gas station was a rough start.
the 45min+ shut down it would just turn over and over. It would start on the 2nd start but be rough.

I have done the shut off and let it rip, but not always easy in my neighborhood, or a random pull into a gas station.

I'd say about 4 occasions this has happened in about 2 months. And those occasions we definitely humid out.

Sounds like a major pain in the bum for someone in Fla like me where its 80-99% humidity like 300 days/yr. I think @AZDinoPwr may be right. Still willing to give IC chiller a shot once Bill gets it on though

Any update on the IC install Bill? Sittin on pins!
