2023+ digital cluster swap (COMPLETE WRITE UP)

The 8.4” NAV and 12” NAV modules are the same, but that’s just a regular 8.4 non-nav (combined screen and module).

Looks like it’s from LKQ. Kinda like playing the lottery with them. You’ll either get way more than you expect or the wrong part / junk.

Funny you say this. Just today I noticed when I put it in manual mode I get a bunch of little circles in the TRX logo. Didnt snap a pic of it. But it was like 8-10 tiny circles

I haven’t tried yet, but I am wondering if the shifter itself needs to be in manual mode based on this blurb in the 2023 TRX supplement.

I always just used the paddles to get into manual so I don’t know. Will have to experiment a bit.

Ah, same here, I'm more of a paddle guy myself. I'll try the shifter out and see what it do.

Lots of people on the normal Ram forum have gone from 8.4 nav to the 12” with nothing more than a new screen.

Well, I haven’t been able to get these shift lights to do anything.

Enabled it in the race options, used the shifter, even messed around with the shift point settings. Just curious if any 2023+ owners have them working and can tell us under what conditions they are supposed to work?

Makes me feel a little better I'm not the only one. Weird that's not something fully housed in the cluster, it has all the info to make the lights work

i tried too and could not get it to work. Even tried sport mode. I wonder if it only works on launch control at w.o.t.

On a 23, those shift lights work as expected. When you move the shifter to the manual position, the"TRX" logo goes away and is replaced by those circles. As you get to your shift points set in the radio, they start to fill up.

I don't recall if the shift light option needs to be enabled in the radio or not. I will take a video next time i go out.

Not gonna lie, I’m curious. But with that said I would have never even noticed these lights didn’t work if @AmosMoses didn’t say something. I don’t go balls out in manual mode. Good way to bang off the rev limiter while the stupid paddles take 15 minutes to respond. It’s no dual clutch, that’s for sure.

yea the slow response of the paddles sucks. I don’t think you get that delay with the shifter but I haven’t tested that either.

I actually found something worth trying for the shift light.

VehConfig 8: Tachometer Type

Change it from Type 1 to Type 2. Trucks with the digital cluster are all set as Type 2 and our trucks are currently Type 1.

I actually messed with this a couple months ago when I was trying to fix the tile button / voice command overlap issue. It didn’t fix that (or seem to do anything obvious) so I switched back to Type 1. But now I’m thinking maybe this is the holdup with the shift light.

I’m gonna try it when I get a chance but figured I’d share now if someone else has nothing better to do on a Friday night.

@Quietpeen and @Grey03svt have AlfaOBD so maybe they will beat me to trying this out. I’m optimistic but I wouldn’t get the hopes too high yet. Lord knows there’s been a ton of trial and error to even get this far.
