RAVELCO THREAD

What am I getting with the Ravelco?

Obviously there is something better about a Ravelco.... but someone put it in real world terms on what it does vs say, a CLUB on the steering wheel and a gas pedal and brake lock.

The Club does absolutely nothing. Many videos on YouTube of them being drilled out in 15 seconds......

Ravelco prevents the vehicle from being started.

Southeast Ravelco completed my install this afternoon. Bret was professional, took the time to answer a ton of questions, and left the truck as he found it (clean). I chose to go the discreet route with the device mounted upside down to the left of the hood release. You barely notice the device yet I can easily install the plug before jumping into the truck. Bret also explained the warranty and how to order new plugs. No complaints.
Grim,

Would you mind sharing a pic of the location with us. I am close to having it installed and can’t make up my mind in location. Thanks

You in Lebanon? He did my Jeep 392 around lunchtime.

Sure, I will get a few pics in the morning when it is light outside.

Essentially it's a kill switch that interrupts power to the starter and fuel system. It thwarts being defeated by using obfuscation - only using 4 out of a possible 16 pins on a receptacle with a matching plug. Each plug is configured differently. By concealing the wires, it makes it quite difficult to bypass or reverse-engineer. Could it be done? Sure - but it would take someone a bit of time - the #1 enemy to a vehicle thief.

The club and pedal interlocks are just mechanical barriers - they are VERY easy to defeat for any competent thief, taking only seconds to render them ineffective.

Piece of Mind. A vehicle is stolen about every 40.9 seconds in the United States. Things like the Club, gas and brake pedal locks, tracking devices, and car alarms are just theft deterrents. While they will help, they won't stop a thief from stealing your truck. Ravelco is theft prevention. Even if they copy your key fob or get into the vehicle, without the Ravelco plug, they cannot start it and drive off.

I guess, yeah....I mean...where I live... only chance of theft would be parked in parking lot somewhere, when I went inside, say....restaurant, Home Depot, etc.

At home, its in the garage, so no worries there.

So...as far as "time" goes...(thiefs don't like to spend time), a club in the window a vehicle parked at Lowes, Home Depot, etc... I would think would deter someone especially in broad daylight.

Someone could tow a vehicle in short order also.

It might be great for some in some areas but for me...it doesn't make sense. (until it gets stolen, then it will make perfect sense, lol)

Nothing is undfeatable. If someone has the TIME, they will steal it regardless.

The big picture is....Stellantis needs to do something not make it so easy to clone fobs.

Here is a pic while standing outside the truck and another pic from the driver seat. Sorry for the low light. It is a dark and gloomy day in Nashville.

I talked to Steven this afternoon who is the Ravelco installer for the Austin/San Antonio area. He said he can meet anywhere to install and needed 2 hrs. He's also willing to install at the dealership which is in Burnet, TX. I'm going to try and get the dealership to tint the windows and let the Ravelco guy do his work before I take delivery.
Please post how it goes, as that would be my area as well

Stats are misleading. I'm sure this includes, keys left in car, people who have access to keys of friends or family members report stolen, insurance fraud, car jacking ect. Which wont help you. If you it gives you piece of mind go ahead but it's a rare occurrence. I never had a vehicle stolen nor do I know anyone personally that has.

My install is tomorrow and so far Sam (Samantha) has been spot on with communication. For ease of use and theft deterrent/prevention reasons, I really am thinking about mounting that ugly thing right here:

It might keep them from tearing shit up more...or it might have the opposite effect and they tear the dash up entirely .
The installer will have better info, so we will see mañana.

what about opposite from starting button. There's an area identical to "start" button on the other side of the steering wheel.lmk if you want a pic to better understand what i'm suggesting

There are multiple members here who have lost vehicles. A compounding issue is that normally someone suffering a theft can take their insurance check and go and buy a new replacement vehicle quickly, that’s not exactly the case now. And what does someone do in that ~6 month interim for a vehicle if they don’t have a spare standing by?

I have to ask, it appears that you are dead set against this or other theft devices, why do you continue to post to this thread? Just curious....

I am mostly right handed and keep my keys in my right pocket. I picture myself getting in the truck and trying to start it without the rav fob. I can easily see the rav plug next to the start button and be reminded of the fob in my right pocket and in two seconds be on my way. Of course, it will all be habitual over time but I also like the fact if the bad guy tries to take the truck they see the plug and just give up. If I hide the plug they might be more incline to tear my truck apart. Who knows. I will post pics tomorrow when done.

I’m not suggesting what will or will not work, but having this installed I see there’s a heavy shielded metal conduit that’s not very flexible that needs to make a 90* turn then somehow firmly anchor to a vertical panel (if that’s the choice). And that panel needs to also remain removable for normal vehicle service and repairs. I’m looking forward to TReX-RAMs installation pictures and solution. Good luck...

I think a less-obtrusive spot would be up on the top of the center stack (in the little cubby where the 12V outlet is). It could be mounted below, with the plug sticking up. That way, you could also rest your keychain there if the plug is attached to your keychain.
