I normally don’t care about the extended warranty tbh. But I just purchased one from granger even though I bought my truck from Chapman. I don’t plan on getting rid of this truck and don’t put many miles on my vehicles. But I would say it’s worth it if you get from granger at basically cost.

***We bought the TRX outright and have plans to keep it in our family for decades (don't want to reflect regret selling it/especially the Unicorn/Hellcat era).

I would like to present an ongoing experience that has deterred the decision to get an extended warranty.

***RESULTS MAY VARY***

Divine Intervention occurred Dec. 12th, 2022, strangely noting a strong coolant odor (passenger side/lower).

Synopsis: Certainly parts can fail, delays can occur however the systemic culture I've encountered is unlike ANY other vehicle I've owned (or overseen in our work Fleets and GM/Ford accounts). The displayed incompetence of many (Tech/initial Service Advisor/Dealership Customer Rep and even RAM Cares (now escalated two levels internally) has quashed any desire to have future Dealer interaction. 🦖 🔥

Reasoning/another option: With the commonality of the Hellcat powertrain and related metro-Phoenix tuning shops in the long-term it may prove a more viable option. With work and kids, time and mental energy is limited and has a $$ value...sometimes defaulting to seamless resolution rather than cost effective makes more sense.

'Cliff Notes' of recent highlights: My TRX has been sitting at the dealership awaiting a replacement radiator for 3 weeks (on its 3rd related service visit) and in totality about to cross the AZ Lemon Law boundary. Third visit related to coolant odor which became a radiator failure/leak (after two apathetic attempts to diagnose it prior, Tech discounting that "all TRX' smell like that under the hood"). Part was finally shipped from Supplier to Stellantis CA warehouse, then to my AZ dealer yesterday (following 2 weeks of ever changing eta's). Correct box... but someone had replaced contents with a 6cyl radiator and added the accompanying (2nd) label. Unbelievable chain of events and apathy (including RAM Cares who self-escalated my case to a RC District Specialist. Also awaiting a RC Supervisor call re: the first rep. who mysteriously closed my first case #/never followed-up (telling me he would be monitoring the situation/etc).. and unknowingly c-blocked this part delay from escalating to an internal Stellantis Parts team (per protocol only can be involved when it's 5 days+ beyond eta). I literally have a file 1/2" thick so far including rental car contracts (paid under the warranty claim) and every call/convo/email related (which until recently by my initiative (as the dealership consistently didn't provide updates (more delays/etc). Even RC Specialist and the Dir. of Service (who self-initiated being the point person last week/great solo effort providing daily updates and disclosure seem shocked by the systemic stack of incompetence and indifference. Tomorrow the initial RC Rep's Supervisor is calling me (we chatted already tonight) to also get involved ($167 part) and figure out what went wrong on their end and hopefully confirm the physically correct part arrives (tomorrow 02/02) or can escalate further within Stellantis.🔥🧨

Always been an extended warranty guy. With all the issues and lack of quality control going on these days, I feel it is a smart investment. I also plan on keeping this truck pretty much till I die. IMHO, a few more thousand dollars on top of what we paid is not really that big a deal.

Has anyone actually read the warranty? They don't really spell out what is covered, but they have a long list of what isn't covered. I thought about it, but, the list of things it doesn't cover was 10x longer than the stuff it does cover. Also, if the part that is covered is attached to a part that isn't covered, and that part causes the covered part to go bad, good luck getting them to pay for it. Those things are designed to make the stealerships and 3rd party providers money and make it difficult for us to get anything fixed under warranty.

I only got it because I’ll drive this forever. It’s the pinnacle of pickup trucks and I’ll just replace the motor when it needs it like I’ve done before with other trucks I can’t get rid of. In 20 years I’ll get the classic vehicle plate.

Spray the undercarriage every 2 years (fluid film, woolwax or surface shield) if you're planning on keeping and driving for 20 years.

yeah its not bad really kind of like a catastrophic insurance coverage plan in health care heres the link www.chryslerfactoryplans.com/library/documents/49-20-323_New_Maximum_Care_Plan_Provisions.pdf

I opted to hold off as you can purchase extended warranty any time in first 3 years. So we will see how things play out. Have not had to utilize one in the past
but why hold off?? unless you're not sure you're keeping it long term.

Rates won't go down for extended warranties.

Idk, you can always find situations on the internet where warranties paid for themselves but if they were really worth it they would not be selling them.

Don’t those coatings just wash off with an undercarriage spray?

Nope. Not at all. There are videos on youtube where folks spray a pressure washer on them...and it stays on. Now, if you used a 170 degree hot water spray, that would obviously remove it.

I've seen tests by Project Farm and read tests where a farmer sprayed bare iron and left it sit leaning on a fence post for 2 years. He did it with bare iron and then coated...and the coated was still on the flat iron after 1 year (he was later going to test when the 2 year mark arrived). It was not rusted, and the bare was rusted badly. Manufacturer says "2 years"

I chose Surface Shield. I've seen reviews with Fluid Film, Surface Shield, and WoolWax...all appear to do the job. Surface Shield has the least offensive smell. In fact, I like the smell of Surface Shield. You can also buy aerosol spray cans of Surface Shield. Some folks buy a case of that. I think I've read it takes like 6-10 cans to do a vehicle. You can also buy it in 1-gallon containers.

I bought a 5 gallon container on Amazon and then bought a Wool Wax Spray kit on Amazon also. I've done 3 vehicles so far. Still have about 2/3 to 3/4 of the 5 gallon bucket left.

I drive my vehicles onto 4 ramps (one for each wheel) and use a creeper and roll around underneath and spray them. Takes about 1/2 to 1 gallon to do a vehicle. It's about a 1 hour job. If you had a hoist....it would be even easier.

The products that you shouldn't use....are the ones that coat and create a solid layer. Those will crack, and then moisture leaks in and they retain the moisture. The ones i mention create a lanolin based vaseline type layer.

Because I’m covered for 3 years with the minimal stuff they would cover through factory and have my own insurance. It didn’t make sense for me to purchase with the brand new vehicle.

I got it because i will keep this truck for a very long time. This warranty may or may not pay for it self but it’s my piece of mind for the next 10 years. I do plan on performance upgrades but that won’t be until much later down the road. I’ve only had my truck since September. With the trx not continuing production past 2024(supposedly) hopefully that doesn’t cause any issues with parts

That's because it's exclusive not inclusive. Anything that isn't specifically listed as NOT covered IS covered.

  • My ongoing cluster update... part arrived today from supplier to a Stellantis distribution center.
  • Part was not available from Stellantis Inventory upon the second request. Was shipped from supplier to Stellantis again.
  • First time was delayed for weeks (stuck 'in transit' with three ETA changes) then didn't arrive/ re-boxed containing a 6cyl radiator.
  • Instead of California, showed up in Illinois distribution center instead (despite RAM Cares case #'s/internal dealer emails and related escalation).
  • Shipping UPS Ground (eta 02/07). Nothing shows 'expedited' quite like UPS-Ground:cautious:
  • Nearing a month to simply get a $167 TRX radiator
  • All this WITH an internal priority status (customer in rental/weeks out of service), both dealer and RC escalations being involved.

We bought the truck to keep as well - BUT seemingly using Suppliers for some parts/rather than on-hand Distribution center inventory is foreshadowing.... Getting (future) specific TRX parts (ie: not shared with other models/drivetrains) likely sources may be Ebay or salvage? Hardly been reassuring....

I'm going with the 6 year 60k mile warranty. great price from granger. I usually only keep my trucks about 5 years.

I had the mopar warranty on my Rebel. I think it was $2,500 USD and covered the truck up to 75k miles. 0% interest over 24 months, and I got a prorated refund when I got the TRX. At the dealership, I did get an extended warranty through the dealership (not Mopar) and it added maybe $20 to the monthly payment. For me, it's piece of mind knowing I'm covered if ANYTHING goes wrong. It's my daily driver, and there's no way I have the means to fix it should something go wrong.
