Passive entry added to REAR doors?? *EDIT* - ACCOMPLISHED AND WORKS PERFECTLY!!!

So knocked this out and replaced my ambient wire harnesses and the middle LED housing in the back doors at the same time. Went really slow on the first door, and all in probably took about 2.5 hours. Second door was 45 minutes max.

Couple of pro tips I gleaned from the experience.

1. Packing tape works better at holding your windows up than painters tape. Last thing you want is the window sliding down unexpectedly.

2. Needle nose pliers are your friend. Inserting your needle nose pliers into one of the nutserts for the window bolts will support the window at the perfect level to get the first bolt in place.

3. Have an extra pin or two available to crimp, if like me, you bend one while fishing it through the door grommet. The pins are very fragile, and I broke one off. Was thankful I had a few of the correct pins lying around.

4. You are looking for the light green wires. There are dark green wires in the loom with the same color stripes. If it werent for the fact that while there was a dark green with orange stripe wire, there was not a dark green with purple, I might have spliced into the wrong wire. Go slow and pick the right wire.

5. Finally make sure you have the right caps. The handles will not work without the tiny magnet in the cap. Check the part number and check for the magnet. I was one for two with having the right caps.
Glad you got it working! Sorry I just now checked the forum and saw your messages, but sounds like you did it all right and just had a bad cap. Glad it's good!

All good. This thread was amazing in getting through the install.

So my one complaint is that doing this mod, there isn’t a way to program the rear driver door to open all the doors in the truck without forcing the front driver door to do the same (in vehicle settings). Obviously this is because the rear driver door modification taps into the same wires that the front door uses.

Oh well. Small price to pay for the convenience of all doors having passive entry. Major kudos to @jdduck1212 for an incredibly helpful video. Made it pretty easy. First door took some trial and error but the second door was pretty quick.

So simple, and frankly one of the best mods I’ve done. Frankly preventing my kids from trying to rip the rear handles off my doors is worth the price of admission!

@Jimmy07’s harnesses are fabulous!

You're very welcome, glad you like it! Although, I'm out of town and can't check, but I'm 99% sure that when I unlock either of my rear doors, the full truck unlocks? I'll check when I get home. But I think it operates exactly as you'd expect it to?

Yeah the same works for me. But that’s only because I have it programmed where the “first unlock command” unlocks the whole truck (as set in vehicle settings). This causes the front driver door passive entry to unlock the whole truck. What I’d prefer instead is for any door besides the front driver door to unlock the entire truck, but for the front driver door to only open itself. This is the way my other vehicles work.

That would actually be a great feature. If you find out how to do it, please post.

No way to program it since the rear driver door ties into the same wiring as the front driver door. The only way to do it is to run a jumper all the way from the driver side wiring to the passenger side wiring. Simple and straight forward, but time consuming.

However, when the weather cools down in a few months I may go ahead do it.

It’s also worth noting that this setting is the only way to get the rear driver door to unlock any door (including itself) besides the front driver door since it’s tied into the front driver door wiring. If you have it set to where only the second unlock command unlocks all doors in vehicle settings, the passive entry handle (once installed) on the rear driver door will only unlock the front driver door (not exactly helpful).

So this is totally doable… just need more wire. If you connect both sides to the passenger front door, you can do what your trying to do…

So I wired up the driver side but everytime I connect the wires I get key fob not detected. I haven't done the passenger side yet. Any ideas? I already removed my connections but it now seems my passive entry has stopped working completely. The only way I can start my truck is by pushing the Start/Stop with the key fob.

post a pic of your wire tap.

Agreed- can you send a picture please? There's like 2 dozen wires in that loom, so it's easy to accidentally grab the wrong one.

Sorry I thought the picture was attached.

So admittedly, I’m responding to this while running around this morning, so someone needs to fact check me, but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be the green with purple stripe wire… I think you have the wrong wire there.

Yep. 100%. Sorry I missed your reply. I posted a few posts above I just need to run more wire. At the moment I’m too lazy but now the weather has cooled down I may look into it.
