"Insanely Fast Raptor R" ?

You guys ever see videos of NASA control room when there's a successful rocket launch? Everyone's clapping and jumping up and down. Pretty sure that's RAMs headquarters right now.
LOL. Ram is sitting there with Redeye TRX mules probably waiting to drop them wondering now if they even need them.

"all the chassis upgrade work was done when they intro'd a Gen 3 raptor" but also says "once we launched the gen 3 that's when we decided to really start thinking about introducing a v8 into the raptor" --- I CALL BS!! #1 you wouldnt beef everything up for a v8 before you decide to even put it in there. #2 you wouldnt beef every raptor chassis up for a v8 and spend all that $$ doing so when 90% of them will be produced with a v6 (total waste of $$).

bottom line: they're trying to save $$ and use a likely underrated chassis for a much more powerful powertrain. Chevy did something similar when they put the exact same shocks from the colorado zr2 in the silverado zr2. How can a much heavier truck not need slightly beefier shocks??

The predator is really not much heavier than the eco boost…. Little bit. Nothing exciting.

For the 95% of TRX / Raptor owner who will never off road or sail the dunes at high speed.....Ford missed this on by 500 miles! It will be interesting if the detuned HP numbers are due to air intake, drivetrain limitations or simply because Ford was in a MAD RUSH to put this truck out and had no time to test under high HP conditions. Whatever the cause, it is an epic fail for Ford but they will sell every single one at a MASSIVE ADM!
For me it’s bittersweet, I was tired of waiting for a V8 Raptor and ordered a TRX last year and love it. I was still holding out hope that Ford could pull a rabbit out of their hat and make a TRX killer. They failed but I am not surprised as a Ford fan boy I can’t imagine what they were thinking. After a year with my GT500 I was doubtful Ford could make this engine work in a truck at the same power level as my mustang. There were rumors from a year or more ago that Ford was having reliability issues with this powertrain at higher power levels. That must be the reason the lowered the rpm limit from 7500 down to 7000 to keep the power train happy. This engine is awesome in a mustang but not sure why Ford would choose a high rpm motor for a truck. I am just glad I don’t have to order one now and spend 110k on a truck.

I would imagine if the 0-60 specs were impressive and beat the TRX they would have been released as well. Kind of hoped Ford beat out the power numbers to at least make RAM consider opening the warrantied motor mods, probably won’t now and moving on to EV trucks. 😞

From a strategy perspective, I bet Ford wanted to just stay below the HP and torque specs because this is them clearly indicating they do not want a further war and just want to move on to their other emerging manufacturing and engineering priorities.

I’m only disappointed because there is less reason for ram to upgrade the trx. All things considered, the trx is still behind with more weight, no 37s, smaller shocks, and no 2wd mode.

I love my trx but for my use, which is a lot of off-road time, I’d sell my trx if I could get a raptor r at msrp.

Well I am in the surprised category that Ford didn't top our TRX hp and torque numbers by just a little bit just for marketing purposes. That being said with their lighter weight and different gearing (although on 37s) it is formidable competition but doesn't temp me at all.

I still think this was done as an after thought response to the TRX and they took the cheapest and easiest route to get a SC V8 engine into a Raptor that was totally designed with the ecoboost in mind. They are clearly staying away from on road performance figures and focusing on off road performance which can be a little harder to quantify.

I like Raptors (have owned two) but I am a big fan of my TRX and will be staying with the TRX. (Even if you could find a R to buy) I can see maybe a 37 option for TRX coming in 23 but don't think we will see any Redeye.

A good day for Ram.

True, but an added 250hp probably warrants a bit more strength and/or rigidity to the driveline/chassis/rear-end/etc IMO. Imagine if they dropped the hellcat in a stock Rebel. I cant imagine it wouldnt have an issue with something breaking with all that added power. Example: i added about 100hp to my 2021 Exploder ST and blew the rear diff out of the housing 2x in one month. It only had 1 bolt holding it together b/c Ford opted to remove the 2nd bolt between 2020 and 2021 to save $3.00. I'll never give Ford another dollar in my life despite some of the nice features they have after that experience.

Yeah I thought it would be more like 750HP, but it is a little over 900 lbs lighter so that might make it shine over the TRX in 0 to 60 times. But I'd never buy a Ford again.

I think it's more like 500lbs lighter if memory serves...

So on the 18th the blue oval will spit out the bone stuck on its throat and answer RAM'S TRX.

The Raptor R will finally show its face and Ford says its "insanely fast".

Can anyone guess how fast it will be?
TRX has 2 more horsepower and is faster in the 0-60 by 1 second (which is a lot in drag racing). TRX 0-60 is 4.5 raptor is 5.5.

Betting against you on that prediction. The ford preview does not use the word power. Not even a hint. They use the word fast. It's clear they only want their boys saying FAST. This isn't their normal best, best, best approach. They will push weight, nimble, quick, speed, they will shove FAST down our throats. I can't see this approach if they brought 800 HP.

NAILED IT. I have said since the first R rumors that ford cannot financially compete with Ram on horsepower. It would be stupid for Ford to even try. Ram has the engines already in production and paid for. Each sale is a profit. Fords 5.2 cannot handle this type of job. A new engine for a one vehicle, limited production run, would be financially stupid. It is a business after all. Follow the money boys.

Now bring on the redeye (but praying for the hellephant). Though sadly with this R release, they really don't have to

I have a feeling it's going to be a huge day for TRX orders. I bet there was a lot of people on the fence waiting for this announcement.
I bet you are correct!
