Yes. I posted that. Coincidentally, Jimmie from Mobilistics emailed me to tell me that their shipping dept. may have sent out some 5-pin relays instead of the 4-pin that our trucks need. I asked him if we could just chop off the enter pin (#87a), and he confirmed that yes, it's not used.

I also asked if polarity on the relay mattered, as a 5-pin relay can only be plugged in one way, but a 4-pin could go in either way. Knowing that their smart relay had to be pulling power from the common terminal (#30), I figured it wouldn't work if plugged in backwards. Jimmie said their relay will work either way, as their circuit will find power on either pin 30 or on pin 87. So no issues there.

Mine should be here tomorrow, barring the snowpocalypse shutting down the entire eastern seaboard. We'll find out.

They are individually programmed. My 21 model will not start my 22 model.

Well, yes, but practically no. Apparently the range of the remote is not that great, so you'd need to be close enough to activate the security relay with its own remote, then activate your remote start from the OEM key fob.

What circuits would be active when you remote start? The signals? If so, is there enough time between this transmitter activating and start once you hit the button and the signals go off?

It is a remote controlled relay. It replaces your existing starter relay. You would have to press the remote that comes with the kit to activate the remote relay and allow the starter to engage. That’s all there is to it. Watch @Mud Rat videos a few pages back he shows exactly how it works.

There is a 30-second delay between disarming the relay with the remote (so the truck can start) and the relay re-arming itself (disabling the starter solenoid).

As for wiring the transmitter to a circuit that's active upon remote start... you could power the transmitter from the parking lights, as they flash during the remote-start sequence - but that would be almost self-defeating, because they also flash upon remote unlock/disarm. So if someone cloned your key fob, the starter relay would automatically disarm and allow the vehicle to be started.

It would work, yes - but it wouldn't be very secure.

I don't know if there's a circuit EXCLUSIVELY activated during remote start that would do what you're looking to do.

And... after all that hand-wringing, my package arrived today with the correct SRI-SG 4-pin relay. Oh well. On the plus side, it worked flawlessly. I may just see if I can swap cases with the OEM relay, as a bit of camouflage.

Key cloning is easy to prevent. Leave your keys in a Faraday box instead of sitting out.

The more likely theft scenario is for the thief to break your window, reach in to unlock the door, hop in, program a new fob to your truck, press the start button and drive off. This wouldn't flash the parking lights, so hooking the hardwired transmitter to the parking lights would thwart this scenario.

I agree on the level of security, though. There is a pretty good chance a thief, who has just programmed a new fob and finds the truck doesn't start, will start mashing buttons on his new fob to see if the programming was successful. He will probably hit lock/unlock and flash the parking lights.

Another alternative to the parking lights is to put the hardwired transmitter on something less likely to be triggered by a thief, like the tailgate release. Then to remote start, you've got to pop your tailgate, and flop it back up before you drive off.

There is, but it'll take a little bit of investigating to figure it out. There's likely a wire from the module that does the remote start that can be tapped. I need to see a wiring diagram. Wiring the hardwired transmitter to this wire would allow the vehicle to remote start, but not button start. To button start, you'd have to use the relay's fob. Or, to forego the relay's fob, you could use two hardwired transmitters, one on the wire from the remote start module and one on a hidden switch or something like your brights that you can actuate when you're at the truck. The hardwired transmitters are cheap ($30), so having more than one isn't a big deal.

As an aside, keeping remote start is a risk, too. If the truck can remote start, and the thief has programmed a new fob, he can remote start it with the new fob, press the start button and drive off.

That is correct. I haven't tested mine further since I posted the videos, but the range on the Mobilistics fob seemed to be quite short.
