Complete installation instructions for adaptive cruise control ACC for our TRX

Why would i need to swap these out?
Because the ones on your truck right now are not capable of adaptive cruise control. All non-TRX 1500’s need the abs and HCU swapped out when adding adaptive cruise.
All info you need is in this thread:

Thank you for the quick and informative responses. I do have more questions:

1) Why does a TRX that does not have ACC have the abs and hcu that will work but mine does not? I have auto wipers, collision avoidance with braking, and also the DASM.

2) If i update my abs and hcu will they require programming before they will work properly?

3) If i just decide to give up on the acc what do i need to do to get my regular cruise to work again?

1) The TRX abs and HCU module are different than either of the abs modules that the regular 1500 uses because it handles the drive modes, so they only offer one variant for the TRX.

2) Yes, you’ll need to perform the abs brake bleed and abs initialization procedures with AlfaOBD.

3) You’ll need to revert all of the settings, re-install the old switch, and clear all of the faults out of all modules.

Put my original switch back in and my regular cruise no longer works. ACC is off and cruise is on. What do i need to do?
Did you make a backup file before changing stuff? Restoring from that would be ideal.

Thanks for your help. Not worth the trouble to change out abs and hcu. Will just revert back to regular cruise. Know anyone that needs an ACC switch?
I’m thinking I want to give this ACC thing a try. Still want to get rid of the switch?

Yes i do. i'll even give you a deal since you have been so helpful
You must have me confused with someone else. I’m mostly a troublemaker. But a deal is a deal, haha. I’ll PM you.

CAN connection, anywhere in the blocks?
Picking a body module on the 1st screen, I’m a 2021 TRX, there are two 2021 options?
MAR key position what position did y’all have yours in?

Just got my ACC installed. A couple of comments, based on my experience:
  • Pulling the airbag is definitely the hardest part. Probably took me 45 minutes to finally get both sides unclipped. What ended up working for me was a long allen wrench. It was a pain to hold the handle-end, but it was small enough to fit into the hole, and had a square-enough end to engage the spring clip. There's certainly a learning curve to getting the feel of it.
  • Make sure your T20 driver is fairly short-handled. I started with a long one, and it wouldn't really fit between the back side of the steering wheel and the dash (for unscrewing the one on the right).
  • After installing the new button and putting it all back together, I noticed that my left-side directional arrow buttons were sticking. It was the right-arrow button - sticking to the phone buttons (see pic below). Turns out I had tightened the T20 screw (on the back left side of the steering wheel) down a little too tight. I loosened it up a half-turn, and the button didn't stick anymore. You can see in the picture that the gap was closed up too much when I originally reinstalled everything.
  • Programming it was pretty straightforward. I have an unmarried Tazer, so I didn't use a separate bypass cable. I just plugged in the OBDLink MX+, and connected to it with AlfaOBD.
  • To answer one of the questions above, I put my truck in "Run" but without starting the engine during the configuration process.
  • I connected to the truck using "Body computer: DT MY2022+ Powernet" since mine is a 2022. Went to the Active Diagnostics and (1) set VehConfig 2-Cruise Control Present to "no", then (2) set VehConfig 7-Type of adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system present to "ACC with stop and go".
  • Turned off the truck and closed the door for a few minutes. Came back out and started it up - had the ACC and Collision avoidance errors. Turned the truck off and figured I'd have to reconnect to reset the ECU.
  • But after a few minutes, I turned the truck on again and everything was fine. Drove it around a little, and it all works as advertised.
Overall, this was a pretty painless mod. Definitely worth the $282 that I had to spend (OBDLink, switch, and AlfaOBD), and now I finally have AlfaOBD to make other settings. Probably going to fix the side mirror soft-button issue next that got corrupted with the OTA update on Uconnect.

Big thanks to everyone who did this before and posted up the instructions.

If you have a copy of alfaobd + a compatible OBD adapter + a security gateway bypass + wifi in your garage, I'm happy to remote control your android phone or windows computer and do it for you.
Any chance you would help me out?
