2023+ digital cluster swap (COMPLETE WRITE UP)

where do you go to see this code?
Go to “radio” in AlfaOBD and select “2013+ amplifier” and check it for fault codes like any other module from there.

You’ve had the swap done for awhile now so this part isn’t relevant for you but the code does take 10 total key cycles to appear. So anyone who has just done the swap will not see it immediately. And that’s why it took me so long to figure out what was going on with it. Frankly it still doesn’t entirely make sense since the cabin EQ in the BCM and the one in the amplifier the truck compares it to remain should remain unchanged when swapping the radio. But I guess doesn’t like something about the 2023 radio or possibly the 2023 BCM.

Hmmm…this shouldn’t require a new amp for this fault. You have model year set to 2023, correct?

Slight update. I was expecting this so I already bought the 2023+ amplifier last month. But I recently confirmed my suspicions. When installing the 2023+ radio module you also need to install the 2023+ amplifier or you get a cabin EQ mismatch code, ANC stops working and the sound quality degrades a bit. I posted the PNs for the new amps in the original post. They run between $200-$275 depending on which one and where you get it.
Interested to see if this a UC4 to UC5 issue or a 2023+ issue.

Yep, set to 2023. I didn’t change anything relating to the cabin EQ either, nor is there any difference that I can see between the 2021 and 2023 backups relating to these settings.

I just put the 2021 amp back in to see if the code comes back (I cleared it before I took it out like a week ago). So far it hasn’t returned but I haven’t actually driven the truck yet, just cycled the key a bunch. At this point I guess it’s possible I went off halfcocked on this and it was just random. Still very strange for that to pop up.

For what it’s worth, the 2023-2024 TRX amp PN is 68591338AA. The 2021-2022 TRX amp I took out was 68547713AD so something is different between them. Probably just software.

Once I have the dealer install and program a new BCM, the old one ('22) will essentially be a paperweight besides if I go back to stock, correct?

That's what I figured, trying to prepare myself for the onslaught of questions for the dealer when I get this thing sorted out!
We’ll become friend with a tech and he can do things for you on the side and case of beer would probably suffice. But beer after it’s done of course lol.

Basically.
There are tools out there that can virginize it, but they’re far more expensive than a new BCM.

There is one use for it though- the pre-2021 Ram owners can use it as a stand alone unit to run the digital rear view mirror when the retrofit it (because the pre-2021 BCM’s aren’t capable of initializing the digital mirror).

a guy on the forum that says digital mirrors are plug and play and is selling kits for 800$ that have cable 3rd brake light and rear view mirror. But say unplug your mirror and plug that one in and that’s it. Only question someone had was bright light mirror if it works as drivers mirror is also connected and a guy chimed in with what change in the bcm to work correctly.

correct, on a 21 and newer it is basically a plug and play mod. I did it to my truck and made the changes with alfaobd to retain the autodim.

It’s plug n play on 2021+ Rams (with a pair of alfaobd settings changes to retain auto dim if equipped). Pre-2021 owners that wish to install the DRVM need to use a 2021+ BCM as a stand alone unit so it can fire up the digital mirror.

Thanks may be the next upgrade as I’m cheap! I ordered the flashlight version of headlights as opposed to the directional ones.

Where is the 'internet port' on the UC5? (for the small 2 prong wire from Jimmy) after getting the PITA cigarette lighter wires disconnected, i pulled the unit behind the screen out and there are a ton connections at the bottom that the 2 prong adapter could fit into. Not sure which to use? (or even if that's the right port) (pic stolen from ebay, but these are the only ports i see that look like the 2 prong wire will fit)
