2023+ digital cluster swap (COMPLETE WRITE UP)

Has anyone needed to take their truck in for warranty work after swapping the cluster? Mine is throwing the stupid evap leak code (tried clearing but keeps coming back) but if there's a chance the cluster swap messes with the warranty i can just deal with it. The service tech probably wouldn't even notice except for the mileage (dash shows ~1300 miles but truck is just over 14k miles).
bumping

you might have to tell them you swapped the cluster and actual mileage is XXXX - i'm sure they can verify it but you have some explaining to do to avoid being blamed for tampering the odometer.

I just put the old cluster back in when I did the BCM replacement. Slight pain in the ass but since that was probably the last time a dealer will ever see the truck I was fine to do it. I just didn’t want any rollback on the Carfax if they reported like most dealers do.

Thanks for the replies. i kinda figured that was the case. It's no biggie for now so hopefully a fix for the odometer will come through before i need to take her in for the next oil change.

Although will the old cluster have the correct mileage? or will it show what the mileage was when i swapped it out?

It’ll show whatever it did when you took it out. But AlfaOBD can do mileage on the older clusters so you could update it if you wanted.

Oh that's good to know!
Is there anyway to get the hours? I forgot to write down the hours of the new cluster when I installed it.

I don’t think hours are stored anywhere but the cluster. Nowhere that I’ve seen.

It can also be hit or miss as far as correcting them so I’m not holding out too much hope for that in the future. But I do have them logged just in case.

Have an appointment to have my 23 bcm installed tomorrow morning. Wish me luck. I made a backup file today with Alfa so I know for sure I have all the latest changes.
You’ll be good. Soon to join the elite 2021 TRX with maps in the cluster group!

BCM swap was a success. Labor was $153 and took a little over an hour. The service tech did ask why I was swapping and I just said I plan to keep the truck and this will allow me to do things I want in the future. I did swap back to the original cluster so that there were no issues with them recording milage. Hoping we can correct the milage on the digital cluster before I ever have to take it back in.

Now to get the digital cluster back in the truck and restore my saved backup files with the required changes.

Does anybody have a part # for these? The one fell down in behind the dash and I’m not taking the center console out to find it. Would rather just buy some extras.

Mid day update. Things are not going as well as I had hoped. First for maps all I get is this.

It appears that I’m also not getting music artwork so that brings in the question of is it something wrong with the radio, the harness or maybe the cluster. Since the cluster is “waiting” for the maps to load I would think its not a problem with the cluster.

Now onto the steering wheel switch. I have the settings correct in the bcm but my button activates the custom tiles and the uconnect voice assistant just like @OnTheReel was experiencing before he found the setting to make in the backup file.

Now what is really weird is that I do not have the 3 beeps when getting out of the truck while its running(not complaining at all about that) and I also don’t have the check the rear seat reminder.

For anybody that decides to do this and has the 23 BCM installed AFTER you have already installed as 23 UC5 radio you will most likely have to do a soft reboot on the radio. I had a few things different on the radio and wondered how those changed with a BCm swap and just let it go as oh well it is what it is. Then I was talking to @OnTheReel (thanks for putting up with all my messages :ROFLMAO:) and I was checking to see if my radio had the setting for the rear seat reminder. It didn’t and a lot of other settings were not there also. On a whim I did a soft reboot(hold power button for about 10 seconds till screen goes blank). I did that and something on the cluster looked different so I tried the maps and they worked. went back into the radio and all the missing settings were there also. My buttons on the steering wheel also work as they should.

Awesome, happy to hear. That was really throwing me for a loop! Enjoy!

threw you for a loop? :ROFLMAO: I completely removed the radio and moved the ethernet connector over one slot and tried many other things to be disappointed to think that I had issues with the radio or the harness and it was all for no reason. Seriously though I’m glad its working and wasn’t a problem with anything else. This is just one more step to keep in mind with this upgrade.

Actually you might want to put in your write up that if you have the 23 UC5 before the 23 BCM(at least on a 21 TRX) to make sure to do a soft reboot.

The price we pay when doing stuff like this. Especially when being among the first. It’s a process…

Anyway, I will add that info in. Seems like most people are gonna do the radio first even though the BCM technically makes more sense to do first. The 2023 radio gains you no new cluster functions without the BCM. But the BCM will give you new features without the 2023 radio.

Just realized now that everything seems to be working properly that you definitely do not need to swap the steering wheel button unless you want the right icon.

Oh, I had to have the correct icon. 100% factory or bust. In fact, my new overhead console is coming Tuesday. Ordered one without the red SOS and blue ASSIST buttons. Those buttons don’t do anything without the UC5 telematics spy junk so they had to go.
