RAVELCO THREAD

Tip: Adhere the Ravelco stickers to a piece of firm clear plastic, then just tuck them in your window when you want them to show (but they don't have to be there all the time).
And don’t forget each sticker adds 5 hp. ;) C’mon someone had to say it!

So I totally wrestled with the idea of 'In sight' and 'Out'. Finally chose to put mine in sight to hopefully be a bit of a deterrent, anything to keep someone's dirty little fingers out of my truck the better are my thoughts. Installer put mine to the right of the headlight instrument cluster, it almost looks stock. Took the chance and figured if I didn't like it I can always have it moved and just buy a new trim piece. Turns out I like (y)
I'm getting my ravelco installed this week and trying to decide on where to mount it. I like the spot you used to the right of the headlight switch. I pulled that panel and looked behind it and where you have it mounted and there is a plastic support that other panels screw into. Did your installer just drill thru it? Is everything still tight? I just don't want the dash panels rattling around while I am driving. Other than that, I really like that spot better than other options.

Im getting mine installed on 5/7 I really don’t want it visible. Let us know how it goes

@AZtruck personally think it's the most functional spot, easy access, may even deter a thief peeking in the window. Everything is tight, and no rattling whatsoever.

Anybody have any dealings with the Ravelco installer in the Las Vegas area? I also read in an earlier post that one person had electrical issues after installation. Was that a one off or has anyone else had issues after having a Ravelco installed?

@wildallways I have been following the Ravelco posts for some time now, think that was a one off very unlucky deal.

You may be surprised how much the "standard" location won't bother you. I wanted to go tucked away and horizontal and I'm happy Rich (AZ/CA installer) talked me out of it. I too would be concerned about messing with the dash panels (and Rich will try to talk you out of it too) since a rattle would drive me nuts way more than the ugly plug location. Either way - good luck with the install! 🍻

Thanks for the info, my appointment is tomorrow morning so I will talk to the installer. I don't mind the standard location, just don't like the fact that it makes accessing the fuse panel more difficult especially if I am offroad somewhere with limited tools. I just like the spot near the headlight switch because it looks a lot cleaner and it's not in the way. I'll let everyone know where I decide to mount it tomorrow.

Yep, that is a good point about the fuse box and a limitation of mounting it there. In fact, if you can ask the installer for a pro-tip on how to access the fusebox with that plug location, a bunch of us here would be grateful! 🍻

I like that!

Had mine installed at Ravelco of the Rockies in Arvada…The owner Larry was very friendly. The entire install was less than 2 hours. I am going to feel way less paranoid parking at Home Depot and other locations around town…well worth $550.

I also had mine installed at Ravelco of the Rockies in Arvada. They have space at a shop there. Unlike many others, they don’t do door-to-door service. The install was about 2 hours and is working great. Very easy to install and remove when getting in/out of the vehicle and I can’t see it when driving.

I made sure to ask about blocking access to the fuse box. I have direct access. Looks like some others may have had the bracket turned facing forward, which blocked access. But this location and method doesn’t block access to the fuses.

Focojayco, Thanks for sending that pic of how yours is installed. I had my ravelco installed on Tuesday by Rich at CA AZ Ravelco, he had it done in about an hour. I asked him about mounting near the headlight switch and he didn't feel comfortable drilling through the leather on that panel. I got the feeling that he wanted to mount it in the easiest and quickest spot for him, he seemed to be in a rush. I ended up having it mounted just like Focojayco's pic and it's easy to access and doesn't block the screw to remove that panel for fuse access. He said he usually mounts the bracket the other way to push it out further for ease of access to the plug but I told him I didn't want it that way because it blocks the panel screw. I also asked him how to remove the panel if he did mount it his normal way and he said you need to back off the ravelco mounting nut on the back of the plug to get it out of the way to unscrew the panel. I asked him about how he makes the connections, he said he solders all wires and uses heat shrink tubing to keep everything waterproof. Everything seems to work as advertised, can't start it without the plug, if it's running and you pull the plug, it shuts off.

Midwest Ravelco installed my Ravelco Anti-Theft Device this afternoon. It took about 2 1/2 hours. Sean and TJ did an excellent job! If you live in the great plains region, I would highly recommend you contact them to get your device installed ASAP. DM me for their contact information. It works as advertised!

Any of you looked at the IGLA system? Totally immobilized unless you know the secret pin or have the tiny thing that attaches to your key ring. Cannot start it by duplicating keys, or any other method other than the mini fob or knowing the button sequence to push on the steering wheel. Also has anti-car jack that will shut down the car built in. Amazing system and no odd thingy on the dash to carry around. Works with the canbus to totally disable all ways to start the truck. Love it and going to pair it next with a computer security upgrade to cover shock, tilt, glass, and GPS tracking.

Didn’t know it came with fob, did hear it had a mobile app to pair with vehicle and could be leveraged to disarm vehicle instead of pin. If there is a fob, sounds like a good option for folks that don’t mind carrying extra fob.

Not even really a fob. It is more of an RFiD chip card or mini fob. It's pretty small compared to our key fobs.

Yes, I looked at IGLA. I like the simplicity and convenience of the solution. I ended up going with Ravelco for 3 reasons. 1) There is no local IGLA installer. 2) I was concerned about leaving the control of my vehicle to a Russian-based company. Their leader is not stable. 3) The IGLA system defeats current tools that thieves use. It’s likely someone with enough motivation and skill will defeat IGLA through a defect in their system. CAN BUS is a message-based network and their solution is largely software. It can, and likely does, have defects that can be exploited.

My 2 cents: These should be kept in a drawer without the battery in them, and only used for situations where someone else (dealer, friend) has the vehicle temporarily and you don't want to show them the PIN code. There's always a fine line drawn somewhere between convenience and security. Carrying this around takes the convenient route, and completely defeats the purpose of the IGLA system.
