Uconnect update I actually like… so far

  • How did you obtain U43.17?
  • How did you load this firmware on to your TRX
    • What year is the TRX that you're testing it on? (Your bio states you have a 2021 which would be Uconnect 4.)
Do not question the almighty great and powerful @OnTheReel. Just let him cook.

I'm

I'm Thinking that's a new TRX.
It’s my 2021 that I swapped to UC5 a couple years ago. 2023 cluster and BCM also retrofitted. There’s a link in my signature to that thread.

Right now it has a 2027 radio I flipped the canbus architecture with CDA6 to the old Powernet and installed. I don’t have the U43.17 software to share. And I think regardless, anyone who wanted to do something similar to this would need to delete telematics at the same time or you just risk it getting zapped OTA and defeating the purpose.

Really just wanted to share that this software is actually good and works well in the old trucks. Hopefully restores some faith that a fix is possible. And maybe even helps nudge Ram into pushing it out. As that still remains the easiest option for everyone.

Don't the 27s have a taller screen?

Yes. I do have one of those too but the screen and radio itself are two separate modules, and you can mix and match whatever screen size with the same radio.

For the purposes of testing how this software would work in a stock truck I just went back with the original 12” and that’s what’s in the video.

So you just swapped a new radio from a (wrecked?) '25+ RHO in there and it shows all the right stuff on the screen? How did work around the CAN?

Hi @RamCares it’s been a while. Any news on a possible update?

Since the 27s run U5 can ours be updated to their software? I feel like all of us with earlier years are getting the shaft for how long this has been ongoing. It feels more like a business decision to make us upgrade rather than helping us.
Hi there, at this time we do not have any updates to provide. As we have been relaying all feedback and issues to our internal team and will continue to keep the forum updated as we are made aware of any changes. As we've mentioned our team does not play apart in the Uconnect software process.

Then who do we need to contact about this matter? 2+ years of waiting is a diabolical wait time for an extremely simple repair.

Using the 2025+ 14.5” screen requires a canbus interface and coding to “translate”. The 2025+ radio modules are much more straightforward to retrofit. I just change the canbus format with my laptop and then they will plug and play in the older Rams.

In the past I was using similar tricks to go the other way and get a few members here “downgraded” to radios on older software that actually worked in the TRX. That supply of donor radios has since dried up. But at least now that the newest software is functional, it is possible to swap to radios on the current software if someone’s really desperate for a resolution, and Ram doesn’t get their head in the game soon.

We are probably talking to a fucking bot. May as well be.

My guess would be Uconnect even tho Ram should be stepping up here, I actually got someone on the line like last year, but I might as well had been speaking to a tree in the yard.
