TRX Stolen Dallas area

I have the exact same system and it cost just about what you did, I like it, I know it works because I left my dogs in my truck to go into a store to get some beer and they set the alarm off from shock and I got a notification on my phone…..

You can only do so much and I’m hoping that both of us made a wise decision, I don’t even carry the Compustar fob, I just rely on my factory fob which arms the system and then the drone app on my phone is more than enough.

Caring around two fobs is like carrying around another nut sack, I just can’t do it.
This is interesting…I was under the impression that the factory fob couldn’t arm the compustar system….so I’ve been carrying a nut sack around I guess…

So the problem with the ravelco device is it’s only as good as the installer installing it.

And if down the line the pins start to wear out. Hopefully it’s on the removable side if not well your going to need to replace or remove it.

Second thing is as a dealer tech stand point. If you come in and I am a mod friendly tech with electrical issues. And I see that device I stop right there. Or I can charge customer pay to verify that device isn’t causing the issues. And customer pay at that point to resolve the issues. As now the electrical system has been messed with.

Those devices require cutting and soldering etc almost have to as if it was plug and play that would defeat the purpose. So I go back to the only as good as the installer. Plus that company may have been in business for a while etc etc. but they aren’t the only ones to go at it like this. Many have come and gone and coming soon.

No matter what you do if a thief has time and really wants it it’s gone. As well as this device unless it interfaces with the abs module and you activate parking brake via radio settings to come on automatically. Will not prevent the neutral rip cord and allow someone to push or pull it away. After all Trx comes with hooks to help them do that. Has been seen many times.

So just for me and this is my opinion that device isn’t any better than anything else out there. I would not want to see some ugly looking receiver plug on my dash. Even those who put it on the headlight switch bezel which is easy to replace. No thank you.

I have done things differently.

Dual function key Kill switch.
After market alarm.
Dash cam that uses cars hot spot to transmit to my Home Nvr so at least I can get some footage if they manage to be able to start it.
Hidden tracker with battery backup. LTE module.
So I am on the defense and offense.

And it sucks this has to be this way. Oem is adding the RFH lockdown flash soon. Which will stop a lot of these from being so easy to steal but won’t stop it completely. Just make it harder for anyone who can buy a 500 dollar lock smith tool.

Having had to repair stolen trucks. Every single one so far was a theft by the Programing method. The repeater attacks are much less likely. As the devices are not guaranteed. And not as easy to obtain.

This all started when oem allowed after market tools to interface with the gateway module. The gateway module is the module present that police’s the communication from the OBD port. Even though it’s easily defeated. That’s when the thefts sky rocketed. Because the code algorithm was discovered and now the module is pointless.

Am I going nuts trying to keep my truck put yes. Why cause my truck is stock now but in a short time it will have many upgrades almost a complete revamp.
If most are coming from

what’s your opinion on obd locks? If anything as a slow down. Where they have to fight to plug something in to the obd

They don’t use obd, the thief pros use the can bus

There's another connector under the dash that connects directly to the can bus, and can be used in lieu of the OBD port. I think it's unique to Stellantis, but it's only a matter of the thief having enough forethought to buy the additional $30 cable for his key programmer or buy a key programmer marketed towards Stellantis vehicles.

In other words, making the OBD port difficult to access is only half the battle.

Although inconvenient, I’m considering actually pulling a choice relay or two when I leave my truck parked for any length of time.

I had the IGLA installed along with the Ravelco as I hated the feeling like I was going to walk out and my truck would be gone.

I’m interested too

Sorry to hear that. They tried to get mine in las colinas during lunch. Most people I have met with a TRX in Dallas have some story of at least an attempt on theirs. Dallas is so bad on any hellcat theft right now.

Maybe a stupid question but my dealer suggested “flashing my keys”. What does that do and can that be an option?

This is insane, we need some public hangings. I'd pay money to get to pull the lever.

IGLA isn't an option in the NW, one Ravelco dealer 600 miles away. I'm thinking of going with the Mobilistics option if the key flashing thing isn't a viable solution. I'm interested to hear more on that.

Not sure where in OR you are, but there is an IGLA installer in Lacey, WA and one in Roseburg, CA (both about 350mi from me)

I'm talking to the one in WA since that state normally waives sales tax for us.

Where in Dallas can you have IGLA installed? It's hard to find.
Some of the members who are installers are trying to maintain a list here:

Some newer info twords the end of the thread.. I'm not sure how often the OP is updated

Earmark is another IGLA installer in the DFW area. They have locations in Plano and Lewisville. They do really good work, I highly recommend them. Here is the info for the Plano store:

Well they changed their name.

Sorry to ask a dumb question. Is a Club steering wheel lock a good option? It seems like IGLA can be a bit inconvenient at times as well as other issues. Won't a thief keep it moving if they see the Club?
