Tonneau Covers?

Ca
I went to order a Truck Covers USA retractable cover and was asked if the TRX bed is "tapered". I looked at a friends 2500 and it has an obvious taper. Looking on the internet I don't find anything. Also, my build sheet just says a 5' cargo box.
Does anyone know or can you look/measure the bed to see if it tapers from the front to the back?

Thanks,

Bill
Called Truck Covers USA yesterday and they say it fits the TRX

Neighbor has a Trucks USA cover and it’s first class.Called them yesterday and it will fit the TRX. $1849 free shipping, that’s my choice.Check it out.
I guess they have a model for tapered and non-tapered beds. Had never thought about it before but I need to find the answer before I can order one. My truck is still a few weeks off and their covers are about 10 days out right now. So, is the TRX a tapered or non-tapered bed?

Whe I talked to the rep I specifically asked if it would fit the new. TRX and he said he was familiar with the TRX and it would fit.Give them a call@ 1-877-542-0622.

Thanks! I'm going to do that. I am looking at their application sheet and they show bot for the RAM 1500. I'll see what he says and get back to you.

OK, that took awhile! I talked to Jeremy and he was very helpful and he talked to Truck Covers USA at length.
In Truckcoversusa.com lingo our bed is an Extra Shortbed. Their shortbed is 74". The extra shorted doesn't make a distinction between tapered and non-tapered.
Anyone needing help or to order one can contact him at 866-440-5666 extension 1518

He said they are very well built and the US military uses them.

Yes they are very nice but did he assure you that they would fit the TRX.Thanks

It looks great. Are you getting any leak? Also do you think it will work with the Ram bar from the factory with the different bolt pattern? I read the whole thread and it sounds like it will, but I just wanted to get your opinion before I order the cover. Thank you for posting pictures.
I did an intense high-pressure water test and for the most part the inside of the bed stayed 90% dry. Only a few areas had very little water but that was under high pressure water hose. I think standard weather and driving the tonneau cover will keep the bed dry 99% of the time.

The water that did get in actually came from water that got underneath the ram bar and worked its way inside the truck bed rails.

I’m not 100% positive how well the cover will work with the factory mounted Rambar due to the top mounted bolts. I think if the bolts are closer towards the outside of the bedrail then you should probably be fine. Would be really cool if someone that has the factory Rambar installed could measure the width from the inside of each bolt across the bed. You need about 64 and 3/8 of an inch to clear the tonneau cover. If the bolts get in the way you might have to trim the tonneau cover or worst-case drill new holes for the ram bar bolts.

That’s great feedback. Thank you! I’m going to have it measured tomorrow. Bringing my truck to a local shop tomorrow to see what they think. I’ll keep you and the forum posted.

It is 64” from the inside of each top bolt. I ordered the same tonneau cover today from Shore Customs in Ocean Township, NJ. They are going to do the install. They are going to remove the top bolts from the factory Ram bar. I assume we will add additional side bolts if we remove the top bolts. As you mentioned, the installer thought he would need to trim part of the cover to get it to fit. If we remove the top bolts do you agree he would not have to trim the cover? He also wanted me to ask you how easy is it to slide open? He was concerned that there was a chance it would not open easily. Any other pointers you could share would be appreciated. I apologize for my lack of knowledge. This is my first truck, therefore first tonneau cover. 😊. Appreciate all your help.

I will post more details about the install once I get it done.

Anyone has any input on gator:

Can anyone give me the model number of the Tonneau cover they are installing at the factory? Thanks!

Anyone have experience with Truck Covers USA?
My local place that I do lots of business with swears by them. He quit handling Retrax which I have in my RAM. He says the fit and finish of Truck Covers is the best.
I think they are about $1800 msrp but I’ll get a break on them.
Any thoughts?
Just installed Diamondback cover this afternoon

I’m interested too. I really like the looks of this one with the small tool box.

Is there any problem installing tonneaus covers with the factory Bed Utility group? I keep reading that black rails don't allow a tonneau to be installed and you need silver rails. What rails come from the factory for those of you that have already received your truck and have the BUG?

I don’t need a big tool box but I like to have a place to put dirty stuff like receiver hitch, jumper cables, basic tools, tie downs and such. This looks like it’ll work fine for my needs.

Yep, I haven’t looked but my correct RAM 2500 has 2 hidden boxes under the rear floor mat. Hope it has that!
I have a recovery bag full of stuff I throw in when I’m off roaming and I have 4 boats so my receiver stays on full time.
I’d love to have the box for miscellaneous tools though but my true need has become less and less over the years.
Good luck!
Bill

Quick update!

I have installed the ram bar on my TRX and successfully installed the retrax Pro XR tonneau cover and it fit perfectly and looks amazing!

There are some minor install details and nuances that I need to share so everyone knows what they are getting into. My truck is currently at Colorado clear bra getting paint protection film and ceramic clearcoat put on the truck. I didn’t take good post install photos so I will take some this Friday when I pick up my truck.

I will update this thread with before and after install photos and articulate the details and nuances so folks are aware.
"retrax Pro XR tonneau cover" - does @Johnny@JustBoltOns have this one? Don't have my truck quite yet, but thinking about future options I might want to do...
