Ravelco vs. IGLA

Are you using an android or iPhone? It looks like they have an app for both if you want to start your truck. If you want to control the IGLA device, they only support android. Do you know if there is an iPhone app to control the IGLA device?
iPhone and its the Author Alarm app. They've verified issues with their iPhone app and working on improving bugs

Add me as another IGLA customer. Took mine and had it installed last week in Weatherford. Happy with the app and I can run it off my phone. So far no issues. The fob's are great if I need to drop the truck off at the dealer or let my wife drive it.

Also installed a GPS tracker on it with alerts. You will never be fullproof but this gives me the peace of mind that its not going to be an easy take by someone. The only other thing I need to add is a blocking cover for the N pull that doesn't screw into plastic.

FYI while I was at the shop that had a corvette that the scumbags had tried to steal....they pushed it down and 8 story garage and left it in a parking lot nearby because they didn't know how to drive a stick and were going to come back and tow it.
which tracker did you get? I'm looking into them now.

I do not have a separate remote. The factory fobs control the alarm the same as a stock TRX. The alarm activates when the truck locks and deactivates when the truck unlocks. I've not tried to start the truck by bypassing the code using the Drone app, but I have used it to lock/unlock it from afar.
I was steered away from that. Although I was told that it was possible, S&A highly recommended not to do that. If a thief were to clone your key, or boost your signal, they are bypassing the alarm. The pin code would still be required, but this would essentially let a thief get around the glass break sensors and the towing alert that the aftermarket alarm provides.

I was told that the combination of the components that I have prevents key cloning. To be completely honest, the only reason I got the alarm too was to deter catalytic converter theft because the truck sits outside. Thus far, the alarm has been more of an annoyance than anything and a two-fob system was a deal-breaker for me.

The IGLA prevents key cloning. However, your factory remote is vulnerable to signal extension, so they could disable your alarm and still push/tow the truck away. Personally, I couldn't care less if they took my cats. I'm more concerned about the entire truck. Lol

I also keep my keys in a faraday box when home and monitor with a camera system, so I'm as protected as I'm going to be. I'm not going to inconvenience myself more to get the extra X% of security.

I have them both but didn’t plan it that way. Came across the IGLA after Ravelco install. Liked the IGLA for the 3 options to start truck plus retaining remote start.
I was wondering, since you have both systems installed, if your opinion has changed regarding IGLA vs Ravelco? No one has the IGLA here in San Antonio so I was looking at getting the system online at Nav-TV and having a reputable alarm shop here do the install for me. With the IGLA did you add any of the modules for Keyless entry protection or the OBD port?

Ravelco is easier regarding availably and installation. Just schedule an appointment and they are coming to you for the install.

I’m sure someone like NYinstaller will respond but from what I understand is the device has to be flashed for the specific vehicle before install so unless they are a certified installer through IGLA they won’t be able to do that. I know IGLA said that Navtv is no longer one of their distributors and all their devices are the older model.

I leave the Ravelco plugged in. I only have the IGLA immobilizer but also have Compustar Pro T13 alarm with Drone Mobil app. It has shock , tilt , glass break and proximity unlock. Alert is sent to phone and remote if alarm is triggered. I don’t use the phone app or the small fob that comes with IGLA I use the pin method which is 4 presses of different controls on steering wheel. I do like the IGLA better. I’m sure any system can be beat but they’ll need time to do it, most thieves won’t stick around after a few minutes. Nothing wrong with Ravelco it gets the job done, you lose remote start when it’s not plugged in but if you don’t have your truck remote start doesn’t matter.

If you want the IGLA you can go to Weatherford, Tx and get it installed. It was a 4 hour trip for me from Houston

Thanks for the feedback. I just wanted to make sure there were not any issues with the IGLA before I pushed towards installation. I'll find out more through my installer here in SA regarding the issue of older units at NAV-TV and getting the units specifically flashed for the vehicle they are being installed in. He was interested in contacting Author Alarm about distributing the IGLA products so possibly we could end up with someone to work with that is closer than Weatherford.

I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere on the forum, perhaps I missed it, but just got word from Author (IGLA) that early next year they're releasing a US version of their COMPASS GSM Module which brings with it a much better phone app and includes things like shock/impact and tilt sensors that are sent as notifications to your smart phone. Also includes GPS monitoring. I'll be very curious to see how this plays out and if it costs the same to install as the standard IGLA. Hoping installers give a break to returning customers who already have IGLA.

See attached brochure they sent me. I also found the Author Connect app in the iPhone App store and playing around with it does seem to be very robust.

I am also curious. An installer just reached out to me saying that a big update was also coming early next year. I didn't ask for too many details but this sounds epic! I would pay a little bit extra for more advanced features.

Do you have IGLA now and are you able to use the Author connect app with it now? The iPhone app I have doesn't allow me to adjust perimeter or anything and have heard that the app on an android has a lot more options. Just having the app to change some settings would be great.

I do have IGLA now, and am picking up the truck from ceramic coating this afternoon. Plan to try the better author app later this evening although my installer seemed to think it wasn't possible.

Also, I had questions for the IGLA headquarters regarding not being able to pair my phone to the IGLA unit and they provided me a document with all kinds of settings/features that I was unaware are possibly available for the IGLA unit.....things like having it roll down or up the windows and fold in the mirrors when the system is armed. I'm going to give that a try as well since I know the Tazer guys seem to always talk about the folding mirrors.

Well, the reason for the lack of options on the iPhone app is due to apple restrictions and parameters that need to be met before publishing an app through their app store. Android is essentially viewed as an open network, therefore, anyone can create an app and post it hence, why they have more options than iPhone app users. But it sounds like they're looking to improve for us iPhone users.

would be interested in that information if you don't mind sharing. Also let me know how it goes when you get your truck back.

I messaged the guy I was talking to when I was trying to get a shop here certified to install and he said the Connect App only works with the GSM system. If you don't mind sending me the other document though I would be interested in it. He said the "service/valet" mode time can be changed but hasn't told me how to do it yet. Mine isn't turning off after driving atleast 10 minutes over the speed it says, but would also be interested in the other options that could be turned on through it.

I also asked about a lot of these features, but they aren’t currently supported on the TRX from what was told.

The GSM tracking would be nice, but I haven’t heard any news of when that is actually coming out. They said they had this for Europe but are developing something for the US hopefully soon
