Ravelco vs. IGLA

I had the IGLA installed about a month ago, along with the CompuStar alarm system and Drone mobile. Total cost, $2,000. The main reason I chose the IGLA is because I wanted to retain remote start, as the winters get pretty damn cold here in southern Wisconsin. It also allowed me to implement additional security measures that were unavailable with just having the Ravelco. Some mentionable items...

1. I was kinda iffy about having to enter my pin code every time I start the truck. Figured it would get old, and get annoying. Now that I'm used to it, it's completely the opposite. The PIN code entry has become part of my normal start-up procedure. It literally takes me 2 seconds to enter the PIN code. While I wait on it to 'beep' that it's ready, I'm putting my seatbelt on. Then, fire it up like normal.

2. Having the alarm system installed alongside the IGLA gave me the piece of mind when it comes to a break-in or towing. Being connected to Drone mobile, I get an alert when anything happens with the truck. I know when it starts, shuts down, alarm goes off, etc. I also have the subscription, so I can track the vehicle anywhere. This, to me, was an added benefit in case a thief was to disable the factory system in any way.

3. A new feature was added to the system during my install. S&A out of Chicago works very closely with the manufacturer, so they were able to create and implement the Auto-Park update on my truck. If someone walks up on me while I'm entering my truck after using remote start, they won't be able to get it into drive to move the truck. Video here... https://fb.watch/cOoIH3zrjW/

4. Having mentioned #3, I'm now eligible for any additional security features that are added to the IGLA system.

5. I've had my truck into the dealer since having it installed. Giving them the small additional fob for the day allowed them to operate the truck as if I had nothing installed, and I could still see every move the truck made via Drone Mobile while it was out of my hands.

6. I also just added the BlackVue 900X 2Ch dash cam, with LTE connectivity. This also gives me remote video access, along with GPS tracking.

Yeah, the setup is more expensive than the Ravelco, but my mind is at peace, and I'm EXTREMELY comfortable knowing I've got protection from just about any workaround out there. It's not something a thief can take a quick look at and get around. They will NOT find any of the wiring for the IGLA, and even if they set the alarm off and cut the siren, I'm still getting mobile alerts from the drone app and from my dash cam.

Where did you have the install done? Chicago? How long did it take?
How did they "tap" into the wiring system for the IGLA?
If you have a fob then why do you need to enter a pin?
When you get the alerts on your phone are they loud enough to wake yo up ? What kind of alert is it?

Yep, took it down to Chicago. Took about 4 hours from start to finish, and I didn't actually watch any of the installation, so I'm not sure exactly how they tapped in. However, after having dug around in my dash wiring in my dash cam, the only wire that I was able to see was the interior 'beep' speaker. And I couldn't even fully trace where it was going to.
The fob; you could technically carry it with, as it bypasses the pin code. However, keeping the fob on you defeats the purpose of the pin code. If someone gets ahold of your key and the fob, the system is useless. i.e. stolen purse, stolen jacket with keys/wallet inside, driver attacked at entry, etc.
Alerts/notifications can be specified on my phone, so I've specifically chosen an audible notification that's different and louder than my standard notification.

My experience has been great thus far! No complaints at all. The only issue that I am having at the moment, which it really isn't that much of an issue as it pertains to their app and NOT the system itself is that, they mentioned they're experiencing some functionality bugs with their iOS app (Author Alarm). For now, I am using the very slim key fob. Technically, I can still use my phone via bluetooth to operate the system but from my understanding, the app would help disconnect it faster from the car with the disable/enable feature in the app. Other then that, it totally works! My truck will not turn over without the pin or signal from the fob/phone.

As far as cutting any wires, yes, wires will need to be cut in order to install this system. It's not as invasive as the Ravelco but wires will still need to cut.

No regrets so far.
Thanks for sharing!

Any immobilizer system will require splitting wires.
And any splitting wires can be reversed. While they claim no one stolen a vehicle, if you give someone who knows wiring enough time - they will bypass any immobilizer. Technically all you need to know are what the 8 sensors the unit disconnects. Then you run consistency test from the sensor to the wires and poof. you can hard wire it instead of a plug. might take an hour or two if you're not professional, but if its sits in an airport garage overnight and you really want to steal that car - you will.

However its easier to find a car without it, and since car thieves are super busy (statistic wise they steal a car every 30 seconds, which means by the time they started one stolen car they have to jump to the other one - and people say that there are no hard working people in the world, they should unionize as they clearly work overtime all the time) its easier for them to move to another car they steal. unless someone ordered yours, then they will find a way to take it, such as towing it away or invest time bypassing everything.
I'd go for the IGLA, the remote start is very important and keypad is better than a second key.

Whats the shop name in Stuart? Im assuming Stuart, FL? Im in Jupiter.
It's Gearhead Fab - (772) 283-6115 - I'm scheduled for next Tuesday!

They offer 2 models. What is the difference in the 2?

Last Friday, I got IGLA and Drone Mobile w/ alarm (including shock/tilt) installed at Alarmtronix in Milwaukee, WI (the closest installer to me, according to IGLA customer support). Dropped the truck off at 8am, picked it up at 2:30, on the road by 3:00 after training and testing. Hoping the security is never needed, but nice to know that it's there. Installed cost for just IGLA was $900, entire system was just under $1,500 (after tax). Was offered to have Drone remote start for another $100, but since all that was going to do was allow the truck to run for 25 minutes instead of the RAM app's 10 minutes, I passed on that offer (not good for Hemi's to idle as it is).

Because the truck unlocks due to passive entry and because the alarm chips every time the truck is unlocked, the chirping every time I grab the door handle was getting old (even after just a week). Today, I called and they showed me how the chirps can be turned off via the Drone app. One thing I was not expecting is that there is now a blue warning light that's stuck to the windshield to warn thieves of the presence of the system. So far (a week in), I'm satisfied with the system and the installer.

Hey- curious- but does that mean you have to carry a second fob (I.e. Compustar I’m assuming)? I want the drone gps and tilt and shock with updates to my phone, but don’t want to carry a second remote…

Add me as another IGLA customer. Took mine and had it installed last week in Weatherford. Happy with the app and I can run it off my phone. So far no issues. The fob's are great if I need to drop the truck off at the dealer or let my wife drive it.

Also installed a GPS tracker on it with alerts. You will never be fullproof but this gives me the peace of mind that its not going to be an easy take by someone. The only other thing I need to add is a blocking cover for the N pull that doesn't screw into plastic.

FYI while I was at the shop that had a corvette that the scumbags had tried to steal....they pushed it down and 8 story garage and left it in a parking lot nearby because they didn't know how to drive a stick and were going to come back and tow it.

There is no second fob. That was important to me too. There is a small, what I would call “chip” that can be attached to the keychains that allows a normal start sequence (no code) that allows a dealer, shop, friend, etc. to use the vehicle as normal. I have one attached to the spare fob that I bring when I take it for service instead of my primary fob.

Did you get a remote for your alarm? Or do you just use Drone Mobile to arm/disarm your truck? I have both, but I carry the remote just because cell signal for the drone mobile seems to have some dead spots.

Are you using an android or iPhone? It looks like they have an app for both if you want to start your truck. If you want to control the IGLA device, they only support android. Do you know if there is an iPhone app to control the IGLA device?

There is an iphone app but it doesn't allow you any control of the device. It just allows it to act like the fob or password.

I went with low tech. Got Ravelco installed yesterday. They came to my work, took a bout an hour. Its a simple way to feel more protected.

I do not have a separate remote. The factory fobs control the alarm the same as a stock TRX. The alarm activates when the truck locks and deactivates when the truck unlocks. I've not tried to start the truck by bypassing the code using the Drone app, but I have used it to lock/unlock it from afar.
