well Just got back from talking to the service advisor , he told me the 2nd time the truck was there they installed a new driveshaft, but since its making it again they called chrysler and are waiting on their "input", also getting a new steering wheel .

by chance, did your bottom carbon piece start to go thru the alcantara?

NO, but the alcantara on the top part was getting all " hairy" and cleaning it did not help, it looked like a 10 y/o steering wheel

Mine started with an occasional clunk at both stop and start around 8200 miles. I took the driveshaft off, over lubed it with quicksilver marine grease as someone else recommended (lubed both male and female side of the spline, generously) and put it back together. Truck is smoother than it's ever been on takeoff now and it's been okay for 600 miles since. I assume the clunk will come back but it only adds about 30 minutes to an oil change so not the end of the world. Hopefully we have another driveshaft option or RAM steps up and does something.

I’ve got a 2023 with 5K and mine started clunking about 1K miles ago. I wasn’t sure what I was experiencing so I let it go until now but I get that clunk coming to a stop or taking off. I’ve got an appointment this Wednesday to look at it along with a squeaky brake pedal that been driving me nuts.

I can’t wait for the grease trick to work for 500 miles and then have to come back again. Debating on just getting that new after market drive shaft and being done with it. Like others, why is Stellantis dragging their feet for an official end all fix. @RamCares

I'm going to follow this and see how it does for folks after 5,000 miles or more. I'd be pissed to spend $1,500 on an aftermarket part just to have the "clunk" come back.

Soooo, not for nothing, I haven’t seen anywhere that this “after market” driveshaft company guarantees that you will no longer have the “clunk”, If there is in writing other than someone blathering on this forum, please educate me…Also, how will RAM look towards a modification of the drivetrain and the warranty not being voided? It IS a modification, period….I don’t think I would give RAM a “crack” to void my warranty whatsoever. Also, remember an after markets guarantee is only as good as they are still in business, just saying…

So ok that answers that a 23/24 updated driveshaft isn't the fix?

I guess not. It’s slowly become more noticeable recently. Before it would only do it when accelerating after coming to a stop. Now it does it when coming to a stop. I got one of the first 2023’s with January delivery of that matters at all, it’s possible they put an older variant but I’d have to get under to check the part #.

My dealer called and my new driveshaft just came in so it goes to the dealer Monday to be installed. My dealer is skeptical that this will remedy the clunk long term but Ram has instructed them to put in this new driveshaft. Time will tell how this works out. I don't put a lot of miles on my truck but it is all stop and go driving which I think may contribute to the situation, although it shouldn't matter.

I will say that RamCares was quite active in keeping in contact with me and my dealer during this process and pressing for a resolution.

I am calling my dealership as well to check on the status of my new drive shaft. I hope your new one solves our issue. Please keep us posted but the true test of the new shaft would be if it lasts a couple thousand miles or so. All the fixes to date from what I have experienced and have read about only last a few hundred miles and then the clunk comes back.

Picked up the truck, waiting on Chrysler... this is the 3rd time, 2nd time they installed a new Driveshaft.. lasted 3 months....

The first time they put the lube kit in which lasted awhile. When the clunk came back I took it back in and dealer said the clunk is normal and there is not really a fix for it. I then contacted RamCares who told me the clunk is not normal and they opened a case on it and told me to take it back to the dealer. I did and the dealer wasn't too happy about it but after talking with Ram they said they would order a new driveshaft, which they did. Took about 2 months to get the part. So all total I had it in 3 times before they ordered the driveshaft including the time they installed the lube kit.

I must say RamCares was quite proactive with this and kept in touch with me about the process and kept things moving. As things went along my dealer was also good to work with although they just do not believe this will be a permanent fix. Time will tell.
