Official Driveline Clunk Service Repair

My dealer has already performed the "Grease it up" option, that only lasted about 1 month and maybe 500 miles. So they then ordered me a new driveshaft. It took about just over a month to get the new driveshaft. They installed it right away
I am calling my dealership as well to check on the status of my new drive shaft. I hope your new one solves our issue. Please keep us posted but the true test of the new shaft would be if it lasts a couple thousand miles or so. All the fixes to date from what I have experienced and have read about only last a few hundred miles and then the clunk comes back.
So after waiting about 1 month my new driveshaft arrived, the dealer installed it right away for me. So it has only been a few days but the "clunk" is gone. We shall see how long this lasts.

Following, how many dealer visits, and did they make you go to another dealership before ordering shaft?

Dealer installed new driveshaft about a week ago. Clunk is gone for now. Took 3 months to arrive to dealership.

These driveshafts will have to be lubricated every 6-8,000 miles or twice a year to prevent clunk. I just did my second lubrication when my cluck returned and it was around 7,000 miles. Even the aftermarket shafts are recommended to be lubricated twice a year. Get your system down. It can be done correctly in under 30 minutes.

What did you use on the shafts?

You know that for sure? The new driveshafts require lube 2x/year?

I bought the kit from RAM for like $85 the first greasing and then I sourced clamps which are posted in one of my threads which I found on here. Second time I used a CRC brake caliper slide pin grease which I bought enough to do several times. I figured that grease is designed to handle high heat and high load so I would give it a try this last time. you can take the rear clamp off and the 4 bolts holding the shaft on to the rear diff and slide the shaft out leaving the boot, front clamp and front joint untouched.

There are candidates on here who have new shaft and clunk returned at same interval. It’s just the design. East Coast Driveline recommended to me to grease twice a year their upgraded shaft when I asked them as I was going to purchase if it prevented clunk forever. But if I got to grease anyway might as well grease the stock one. Now if one upgraded power significantly you would want one of their driveshafts. But you’re still greasing often. It’s under 30 minutes. Do it ever other oil change.

100%. I dont think anyone would buy a whole new driveshaft if they knew they had to grease 2x/year to prevent the clunk from returning.

Strangely my 2023 started doing this almost out of the gate and I ran the truck in 4 low with locker engaged and it stopped immediately and has not returned (3 months). Likely not related to the lubing issue but thought I would share just the same.

Are you saying you are driving around in 4 low with the locker engaged?

Then there should maybe be a grease fitting so it does not have to be dropped out twice a year to service , DUH !

So if you dont have the clunk, and are at 7k +- miles and have to rely on a dealership to do this, then what? They wont address it under warranty, im sure it would be deemed elective. Is this something that only happens to certain trucks or is the writing on the wall? Sounds like it to me 🙄

As posted here this "Ford" product maybe the answer, applied at 17k and now 21k haven't heard since, but also in cold zone so we shall see. Beats going to the dealership that keeps guessing and wasting my time.

LOL - I am not, not my first rodeo. Got on a dirt road and drove it a bit
I was thinking I was missing some info. I sell parts at a dealership and wow, some of the stories I have heard. Even I have had to do moronic things. I once drove a 2000 Durango about 80 miles on a mountain highway stuck in 4 low, front passenger brake caliper seized with that front CV axle busted, when I ran in the gambler 500. That was back before it was a trash pickup event.

How much grease do you use? I have a 3oz tube of PTFE
