My TRX Build - Overland Focused

Great truck! In terms of your Bwoody sway bar links…did you notice a difference and how was the installation? Thanks.
Thank you! I actually didn’t notice any difference in how the truck preformed but the BWoody links are at least 3x larger in diameter vs the factory links. I can’t tell you why this is better from an engineering perspective and just assumed this “upgrade” would provide some benefit. My purchase decision came down to it being relatively inexpensive and BWoody as a brand.

I didn’t install them myself. There is a off-road shop here in Southern California called - Industrial Motoring that put the links on as well as a punch list of stuff for me. They didn’t comment on how easy or difficult the install was so I couldn’t tell you.

Sorry I am not more help on this one 😆

Wow! Thanks. I have a set ready and they look to be able to take a bullet. I guess basically any flap would not last with the type of off-roading you partake in. :D

I take it no rubbing with your 37s. I am not sure if I am going 37 or sticking with 35s.

Do you think the steps do a good job of shielding the fenders, etc.? It would appear they do, what is your opinion. I assume those are the factory steps. Thanks!
What length did you order? I was looking at them also and noticed that they have 8, 10, and 12 inch options?

the mudflaps i recently added as well. I am not a big fan of the look of mudflaps but figure I would put them on for an upcoming trip. These are from a company called rekgen. I got them from here: https://rekgen.com/collections/truck-mud-flaps/products/rek-mesh-x-merica-mud-flaps . As far as fitment goes, the metal mesh is your mount point and you can use the factory hardware to bolt them right up. Be careful not to overtighten them or you could snap off the bracket on the plastic undercarriage. I may have snapped one or two during my install. shit happens.

The flat piece on my tail gate is from mountain hatch. You can find that here: https://mountainhatch.org/products/dodge-ram-1500-2019-2020 . The benefits are, flat surface, can be used for serving food or as a cutting board, also has cup holders built in for beers. The cut outs for beers was good enough for me to make the investment.
I ordered this tailgate table/guard as well. Are you happy with it?

I like it a lot and would absolutely order it again.

There is one downside to it, which I am not impacted by. The surface is basically a cutting board on steroids. If it gets wet, its going to be slippery. Just the way it is. If you step on it with certain shoes / sandals, you need to be careful. Last thing anyone needs is to slip backward and land on the back of their head onto concrete because they slipped off their modified tail gate.

Other than that, its perfect.

As far as build quality, it’s pretty good in terms of alignment with the factory body panels. The finish is nice. My installer had a couple of hiccups that they were able to resolve.

The front bumper is advertised as a zero cuts factory bolt on bumper but 6 cuts in total were necessary to eliminate rubbing or improve overall aesthetics. First two photos show trim points.

Secondly, the rear bumper openings for the rear sensor are oval shaped and not water jet cut so the factory sensors need to be installed at a certain angle in order to function properly and be effectively glued in with silicone. Here are some photos. Last three photos show sensor mount points (rear only, front looks pretty good) and the second to the last photo is how the sensor mount point should have been cut so the factory sensors “snap in”.

Other than that, I am happy so far. I have only driven the truck five miles since the bumpers were installed to get it to another shop where they started installing the RSI SmartCap and related accessories.

Hoping to get the truck tomorrow to enjoy it a bit before she goes back under the knife.

Cheers and have a great weekend.

Oh also, my vehicle Instagram is reptartrx if you want photos in real time. I will absolutely continue to update here.
Thanks for this. Still looks like a rock solid build mate. Debating which ADD sets to get myself. Really like how it all flows so seamlessly

I don't think there is a bad ADD option for the TRX. My personal preference is the Bomber because I like the looks of the round lights up front. Nothing wrong with a straight light bar, but I like to break up the shapes a bit with the round lights. I haven't seen one in person yet, but I kind of think the Pro Bolt would look good too. Plus, you can do either a straight bar by itself, or add some round ones to the top of it. Best of both worlds!

It been complete for about 6 months now. Zero issues or discoloration this early in the game. All in all I am pretty happy with the build and it has been solid. Thanks for the compliments.

If you haven’t voted for Junes TRX of the month, please vote for me. Tons of great competition this month and I need your help to win

Here are some updated photos after picking the truck up last night. A quick write up on what has happened until I can go into more detail;

RSI SmartCap EVO + camp kitchen + roof rack + and table was added

CargoGlide CG1000 bed slide added (had it powder coated in black)

Evil Manufacturing custom fabricated a third brake light to get my rear view mirror camera system functional again and mounted it to the back of the smart cap. It has two Baja designs spot amber spots, brake lights, cargo lights, and of course the slot for my rear view mirror camera.

Pretty happy with how everything turned out but I need to figure out a solution for the RSI camp kitchen. The stove that folds out from the passenger side of the cap ends up sitting right on the passenger fender when out. It’s not much but I can see someone opening the stove two quickly and it denting that fender super easy. Also if you aren’t like 6’4+, you likely will need a stool like I do (I am 5’10) to properly use and see the stove. I should have guessed this would be the case on such a huge truck but it’s all good!

If you have any other questions send them over and I will try my best to answer.
This is a great setup with the Evil rearview camera. Any notes on how you hooked this up to the rearview mirror?

Speaking of sway bar links. Anyone spend any time offroad with the swayBar unhooked?

When I did my zr2, unhooking the sway was night and day. Biggest improvement was just a smoother ride.
But that was a 4600# truck with 550# springs and an already light sway bar (I have the spring rate in my notebook somewhere).

The trx is 6300# with 1100# springs and unknown sway bar but it is thick.

I need to calculate and compare The leverage points on the shocks and sways…. But considering how over sprung the truck is (king uses a 700# spring for their trx kit); I wonder if unhooking the sway will offer a smoother ride on the trail.

I didn’t. Evil did the work at their shop actually. I would recommend giving them a call directly. Doug will be able to assist fully and sell you what you need to get this up and running.

I don’t know about the factory sways but I can tell you my hellwig rear sway didn’t last a single trip. Ended up getting it removed and scrapped it after three days in the desert.

Any chance you can provide overall height on this?

96 inches max. includes roof bars on top of the tent, probably could subtract a bit due to the angle produced by the flared bed side.

A year later everything working great. I changed out the springs with a Geiser set, added the rear panhard bar from FMI as well as most of their undercarriage armor plates.
Any issues with the rtt being over the antenna?
