Modding And Meandering ...

Ok so the Bora 1.5" spacers came in ... but I don't want to start a whole 'thing' arguing about the pros and cons of wheel spacers ...

As mentioned before I ordered mine simply to gage offsets and to put on for a few days while I wait for my wheel setup to come in.

However I have to say as far as spacers go they're very impressive. They're incredibly well built and there's something quite appealing about how they look and feel. If one decides to use spacers I would recommend them from a build quality standpoint.

As far as whether it would be wise to use them long term the answer is I just don't know. I know that in the Wrangler community they use them and beat on them under extreme off road conditions, but those vehicles don't weigh half as much as the TRX, so I don't know what affect using them will have on road, much less off road. Oops, I guess I did want to start a whole 'thing' after all. :)

Here's a pic ... they're pairs of two bolted together.

Have run Billit wheel spacers on several rams . Never a issue. I use blue Loc tight just because it makes me feel good. haha
your trucks looks great.

So i don’t think there’s any real world experience detail that anyone can give us. Is it wise to put the additional strain on the hubs of a 6500lb truck by using spacers? In the long run probably not. Some people will tell you it’s a terrible idea some people will say it’s fine, some people will say ‘I run that on mine with no issues’ which is the equivalent of jumping off the top of the building and saying ‘so far so good’ at any moment in time before the splat.

Like I said wrangler guys run much wider spacers than these in super aggressive off roading environments and never have an issue, but their vehicles are more than half the weight. If I were never going to off road I would probably feel comfortable using them on the street, but I do plan to desert run the truck so as soon as it gets its axle replaced and passes its comprehensive dealer inspection, which are happening Monday, I will order new wheels with the equivalent offset to these spacers.
I’ve never seen a car running spacers of a small amount with appropriately longer hardware have an issue. I would run them without a second thought

Alright, so as some of you know I dropped off the truck yesterday to get the front axle replaced and for them to do a full inspection on it.

First let me say what a fantastic service center Hendrick Jeep Ram Charleston is. I know some people here have had issues with dealerships that wash their hands of the truck till something breaks, but not these guys. They have been super aggressive with their inspection making sure I’m happy and the truck is good and safe.

That said, many issues popped up during the inspection. Anything from coolant hoses routed improperly, washer fluid hose unattached, harnesses in the wrong place, exhaust misaligned, hood misaligned, scratched flares, and a few others I forget right now. There was a major issue though, I’ve asked for a written explanation so I can pass it on to you guys but the long and short of it I need two new control arms in the rear, one lower one upper. Something about them rubbing against something because they were installed improperly.

So if you’re keeping tabs, one front axle and two control arms on a 300 mile truck, plus all the other relatively minor stuff.

Everything was bolted tight and fluids were fine so I guess that’s a positive. I’m trying to roll with the punches but what a disheartening shitshow this rollout has been. :(

I’m getting it back this week as I wait for the control arms to get here in a couple of weeks. This will give me time to decide what to do about whether I keep it or trade it for the DDHC.

That to say the least is extremely disheartening. I am trying to find a local shop to do the same in depth inspection but am having a hard time finding one. Sorry for your situation my friend, might be another early dram day....... you definitely deserve it. Cheers

That is extremely unfortunate. It is really making me second guess driving from OH to CA instead of throwing it on a trailer. Sorry for the pain, totally unacceptable.

Honestly the lesser issues are no big deal, thanks to the good work of the members that reported their issues and those that compiled them, they were caught early and are easily fixable.

The front axle and rear control arms however are what is giving me pause. Am I getting another axles who's cv boot is going to have the exact same problem? Is my suspension sound or is it going to strand me in the middle of the desert? These are serious and crucial components on a vehicle this size and weight, and they need replacing less than 300 babied miles in ... what else is in store for me if I start beating on it?

No matter what happens we really need to impress upon everyone that gets a truck delivered how important that comprehensive first inspection is. I would under no circumstances accept delivery without one. And not just a 'let's have a quick lookisie' ... they need to get under there with the list, whatever has come up since, and not stop until every bolt, hose, harness, fluids, and everything else has been checked and cleared.

And Ram doesn't want to put a TSB out on our beast.

Sorry to hear that @soulsea that really sucks, would be great to see a pic of the controls arms. I wonder if they installed them backwards meaning the angle of the control arms didnt align with the rear differential. From looking at mine its a slight offset

Just an update in regards to a secondary inspection of my Trx. I got an appointment late this afternoon at a local automotive shop near me.... right down the street.... 40 miles each way. Ha
The mechanic and owner, Leo, couldn’t have been more accommodating and allowed me to observe right along with him as we went through the @scottn list. I feel very fortunate that everything checked out and all seems good. Needless to say I have been sweating about the trucks fitness since I received it on the third. I can’t say thank you enough to everyone on this forum who has contributed to highlighting the potential deficiencies of the manufacturing process. I agree with our friend @soulsea and others, to encourage everyone to get this done, either with the dealer or independently. I hope that if there were growing pains with the initial builds, things are getting better with the later ones. As I have said before this truck is a marvel of automotive engineering and an absolute joy to drive. I hope everyone gets the inspection done and stays safe driving and beating on this beautiful beast. Cheers

I promise I’ll share the control arm info as soon as I get a detailed explanation.

That‘s awesome news man.

Agreed with the awesomeness of the truck, it is a testament to how much joy driving it gives me that it hasn’t been sold already.

Dowes anyone know if the rear seat ram bin boxes in the floor are easily accessable to be broken open from under the truck?

When I was installing my steps the other day I was looking at the ram bins from underneath the truck. To me, they looked to be a thicker version of the hard formed/molded auto carpet you find on the sides of most trunks.

Granted, I didn't try to cut one but it looked like a sharp box knife would do the trick.

I’m sorry to hear about your troubles. Hopefully they get your truck fixed and it will remain trouble free long after break-in. I do admire your attitude about the situation. I think I may have completely lost it by now.

Thx - that sort of defeats the purpose of a metal
