JL Audio Stealthbox - Same as the Ram 1500?

Listen to Brownie..... If you're going to intercept the signal at the sub, you'll need to step down the voltage with a line out converter so that you can have an appropriate amplified wattage for the sub/subs you're adding. There are other ways to do it but this is the best, IMO.

The JL Stealthbox is unmatched and I'll respectfully disagree that the provided H/K sub set up is pretty awful. The only one I've seen that's worse is the Sony sub Ford was putting in their premium sound package for years. Now they've changed to a Bang and Olufsun I believe.

I've yet to see another company get as much low end out of a small space as they do.

So for the JL Stealthbox and the needed equipment and labor to install, what would the cost be, ballpark?

The stealthbox alone is about $1300-1400
I would think all in it will be close to 3k in equipment plus install.

Its not cheap but JL stuff is some of the best I have ever used on previous vehicles.

I paid about $2500 for a similar setup in one of my past cars so I would imagine the same for a quality install plus bass knob

+1 on JL Audio

I pretty much add a JL audio set-up to every vehicle I buy (even my Harley has a JL amp). Current Ram 2500 has the JL audio stealth box (under back seat) and JL Amp (Focal mid/tweets) with bass knob and it is glorious. Even the "upgraded" sound systems out of the factor are crap, and I didn't order the HK set-up.

Will be one of my early mods to my TRX (after tint and tonneau cover)

I’ve had a JL stealth box in a previous auto - they are top notch. I’m more than likely going this way and already started ordering some of the audio gear to go inside.

I ordered this Kicker amp today; tax free and a 10% coupon made it a killer deal. Kicker Amp

I’ll order the box, wiring kit, and accessories probably from Crutchfield quickly after receiving delivery. My truck is built but waiting for shipping, I’ll post up photos after the gear is installed.

As for the doors and dash speakers, I’m going to beat on the stock factory speakers for at least a few months before replacing them.

Have you found a box yet, I also have the same box in my 17.

Group buy on a setup with clear instructions (line-out yes or no, what box/where, what factory speakers are retained)?

I haven't messed with car audio in 15 years, so a proven setup or two for all of us would be much appreciated!

So I've actually already installed the JL Audio Stealthbox with 2 - 10" (Part # SB-D-5GRAMCCR/10TW3) in my TRX myself. I ordered the parts from Crutchfield and spent around $1900. List of parts I ordered below. I went with the JL Audio XD600/1 amp because you can purchase adapters to tap the speakers without the need for Line Output Converter since its basically built into the amp. Also, it uses the taps to signal the amp to turn on so no need to run an additional cable to fuse box or amp under the drivers seat.

For install be ready for some work, you have to remove the rear seats completely to mount the box. Running power cable through firewall by the neutral release pull and down the drivers side under the trim is fairly easy. I used a ground bolt in the middle rear area that was already there along with disconnecting the factor sub and using that as my speaker tap.

All in all I'm very happy and the bass is amazing but the ANC (Auto Noise Cancellation) mics do NOT play well with aftermarket subs. I get humming and some issues with the ANC system trying to filter in white noise to make the cabin quieter. There are companies out there that make bypasses for the ANC system that are plug in play like this one:

Which I'm currently waiting for mine to arrive and hopefully that will take away that problem and everything will be perfect!

*Note - you only need to use one if tapping the sub and use the Left channel on the amp or use a Y RCA splitter to plug into both for the amp. Comes straight from the JL Audio amp user guide.

Outside of the list above, just need a 4 ga wiring kit, RCA cable, RCA Y splitter cable and some time. Took about 6-8 hours.

Thank you soooooo much! I will send this summary to my installer. Very much appreciated.

Do you have the reclining seats TR2 package?

Nice setup. I believe you can disable the NC thru Uconnect.

Yes it does so you have to go with the 2 - 10" Stealthbox

Exactly right. I think you can get the box with two 12s if you don't have the rear reclining seats. Fantastic work Tech Guy!
