Effective, Inexpensive, Simple Security Device

Hello4x, we'll see if this works...

The only way I could figure out how to get the file small enough to upload was to text it to myself it two parts then attach those two files. My apologies for the poor cinematography. Even this low quality effort took me 2 hours to figure out, lol.

Thanks @Mud Rat! Ordering now!

Btw - love your truck!

But if a thief uses his door opener, the lights would flash allowing the vehicle start. Admitted he'd have to be quick with his laptop.

You're above my head. I don't have anything tied in to the lights.

The thief is either going to: 1) break the window, plug his computer in and program a new key, and then try to start the truck; or 2) use a repeater to activate the proximity unlock and start the truck. 1) wouldn't flash the parking lights, but maybe the thief might incidentally press the unlock on his new key in trying to diagnose the no start condition. 2) I can be careful enough to prevent using a faraday bag / box, right?

But I'm open to ideas of other circuits to connect this to. . . things that actuate when you remote start but that wouldn't when your truck is being stolen.

I know, someone else mentioned the lights as a trigger
I think you're correct about that device that tied the relay to the lights. Doing that makes it seem if somebody cloned a key, they could hit the unlock button and arm disarm the relay. Good point.

I ordered one of these today. I hate the idea of needing to carry around a second fob, but this is the cheapest, easiest, most effective solution I've seen so far. If I find something better, so be it, I just blew $89, but in the mean time, I can use this any time I plan to leave the truck parked somewhere for longer periods of time. Thanks OP for sharing this solution.

This should deter any would be computer key programmers

Didn't hear anything. Once or twice I pushed the start button on the truck and the starter wouldn't engage, so I hit the relay fob again and the truck started as soon as I did (without touching the start button again).
The Dodge/ Ram platform will continue to crank for a certain amount of time until the engine starts.
You engaged the security relay in the time span that the truck was being told to keep cranking ( I'm not running ).

The site also has a hardwired transmitter activated by an on/off 12 volt signal. The site describes: "Activate the NoStart™ relay system using high beam control on the turn signal, a powered 12v door lock or unlock, a 12v parking light on/off, defroster switch or a hidden switch etc. . . When activated constant or on/off it will transmit 4 seconds to the NoStart™ relay allowing you 30 seconds to start your vehicle and will reset when the ignition is turned off.”

I think this means that if you connected it to your parking light circuit, when you lock/unlock the car truck with the fob and the parking lights flash, it would enable the truck to start for 30 seconds. Agree? That would eliminate the need to use two fobs, and would also allow remote start.

Wouldn't this mean when they clone / program a fob there will be no security. They can start it just like you with one oem key fob.

Can you damage anything if truck keeps trying to start (cranking) but the relay is nor engaged/armed?

That's a good question and I'd welcome any knowledge. I will say that nothing mechanical happens when the relay is armed (disengaged). That's why I didn't replace the fuel pump relay, because I figured some thief would wear out the starter trying to get it going.

I was going to go with fuel relay as the truck trying to turn over would cause additional unwarranted noise. But like you, don’t want to kill starter and hopeful shocker sensor will scare off potential burglar.
