Dram of the Day

View attachment 49280Nice haul. Did a pretty involved welding job for a good buddy! He got me a nice selection based on the store staff recommendations for nice bourbons. Can't wait to sample. Cheers all!
That Russell’s white label is easily my favorite value bourbon. Haven’t had a bad bottle of it yet. Noah’s mill is damn good too. I’m very interested to hear your thoughts on that knob creek 12 year. I haven’t found that one yet. Enjoy your tasty new selection!

Sometimes you just need a little extra flavor kick.

The Knob Creek 12 year is very good. Strong cherry and vanilla notes. I also really like the Russells and am impressed by the Noahs Mill too. Doesn't drink as hot as I thought it would have considering its proof! I think the highlight was the Jack Daniels bonded! It's delicious! Nothing at all like the regular JD! Cheers all!

@Jake226 I really like the 12 year. Don't get me wrong, the 15 year is wonderful, but I enjoy the Knob 12 just as much. A good friend gifted me the 15 a year or so ago so its an occasional sipper. I have to agree with you on the Russells white label. That is going to be on my must have stock rotation! It's cheap considering it's pedigree!!!! Cheers!

Love this thread...

Go to if daily drinking is Longbranch. It's actually really good and inexpensive.

Blanton's is great - I stood in line for hours just to get a couple of bottles. If anyone has a source or can buy and ship, I'd be super appreciative. Virginia controls it like it's plutonium.

Japanese anything (almost) - even convinced my father-in-law how well made their whiskeys are. Hibiki is fantastic and now hard to get.

Balvenie - haven't had a bad one yet and anything in a sherry cask is a winner.

McCallum's - love it, just can't afford to drink it at the level I would want to :-)

Picture of the bar downstairs in the mancave and the buffet bar upstairs...certainly learned moderation :-)

Thats a nice set. What do you think will be the virgin fill of that awesome decanter?
That's a good question. I think I'm going to fill with my Avion Reserva Crystalino tequila. It's one of my favorites, but the bottle it comes in isn't anything special.

My wife and I are going to do a little bourbon tour when picking up the truck, any favorite spots to hit/recommendations? We’ll probably do 3-4 days or so before cruising back home
If Kentucky, I recommend:
  • Castle & Key - stunning place...they just started producing bourbon but it's decent enough. Almost forgot to mention: there is a great southern restaurant near C&K call The Stave. It is almost always full, so call ahead for reservations. https://kentuckyprojects.wixsite.com/thestaveky/
  • Woodford Reserve - also beautiful, great place to sit and have a taste or mixed cocktail, about 15 minutes from Castle & Key
  • Buffalo Trace - not the most beautiful place, but they always have a fun release there on saturdays; last two visits they were releasing Blanton's ($79/bottle) and Eagle Rare 10-year ($34/bottle)
  • Bardstown - easily the least attractive spot along the highway, but their food and tasting is over the top good. While you're there, Keystone Liquors (near the Bardstown Distillery) has a great selection, their prices are pretty good (750ml Buffalo Trace is $29) and I bought 2 bottles of Blanton's Japanese Black Label from them for the best price I could find by far. They still have a few bottles of the red label, and some other fun things behind the counter.
  • If you wind up in Lexington, go to Blue Grass Tavern downtown, they have an unparalleled collection of anything you could want, and will do 1/2 pours of anything. Great place to try whatever you've ever wanted, from bottom shelf all the way to Pappy 23 year. Also, they know their stuff when talking about bourbon, they're great to learn from.

Guys, I’m new to Bourbon. But my boss loves Eagle Rare, so I’ve been turned on to Buffalo Trace. I’ve had Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare, keep them on stock. But their other brands I have a hard time finding, it’s too rare in my area. I’ve tried Rye, not for me. I would love a Wellers, or a Blanton, but what common recommendations can you provide? Smooth, sipping bourbon on the rocks, at a medium price point int?
