Dram of the Day

Caliche!!! Congrats!

You live in deer country and that’s your first? Consider yourself lucky on many accounts but especially the lack of damage.

Once our globetrotting comes to an end on the 12th, I’ll pour something really special and toast your new ride.

I’ll get my beauty back on the same day so I sense a double dram to celebrate the occasions. Oh wait... I do that anyway! ;)

Congrats, buddy.

I reaffirm my opinion that this is the best $50 rye available to mankind.

THE UNTHINKABLE HAPPENED......

Well I thought this would be an appropriate place to finally celebrate the arrival of the Beast. I couldn’t be happier with this truck so far. I went to San Antonio late yesterday afternoon and finally got possession at around 6:30 pm. It was much later than I would have wanted as I had an eighty mile trip back home. As I think some of you know I live in a very rural area and I was concerned about driving through the hills after dark. I was literally saying a mantra “ don’t hit a deer” over and over again. My concern became well warranted, I was only two miles from my driveway road and what I had been fearing for the last 45 minutes happened...... I briefly looked down to the dash and when I looked up this deer was almost to the middle of the road. I did what your told never to do and swerved to avoid a head on collision with the deer. Of course I couldn’t stop the inevitable . Smashed my right front bumper into the helpless animal. I have lived in Texas for over 8 years and never ever hit a deer. I have slowed down many many times to avoid them. After waiting for more than 6+ months like many of us, my worst nightmare came true. One I just took out a helpless animal and two I just smashed my 1 plus hour old dream truck.

All I can say is I swore out loud cussing the truck gods, No No No this didn’t just happen to me and my new truck. (Also said a quick prayer for the deer) I still had about 7 miles to drive to get home. I have been dreaming about this trucks suspension setup for months and couldn’t wait to get on my 4.5 mile off road easement driveway road. So I stopped the truck on my road and did what any normal person would do... go check out the damage... No not me...I figured out how to setup the custom mode and put it into Baja suspension so I could see how well it works.I realized that there was nothing I could do about any damage so I says to myself let’s rock and roll. Now I got to tell you this truck is an absolute Monster. It worked flawlessly and was a blast bombing down the road. (Never exceeding 3500 rpm)This truck is everything I was hoping for and more.

Sorry for the long winded expose.... my wife was waiting with one of our daughters that is visiting. I got out of the truck and turned on a flashlight to see what damage I did to my beautiful new truck. It was a truck miracle, this beast didn’t have a mark or a smudge, nothing nada unfreakingbelievable. It ate that poor deer and spit her out like it was on a walk in the park. I still can’t believe that happened and the truck survived unscathed in its first encounter with nature.

So I want to make a toast to this incredible machine that defies logic in many many ways. And I especially want to toast all of our forum members for making this agonizing buying process so much more fun and informative. And as many have said to those still waiting hang in there, the long wait is definitely worth it. I have learned a ton and laughed much more than usual. Cheers to you all and Thank You.

Wow, sir, just wow... First, I am so happy for you getting your truck! Second, I am glad you are OK and that your truck is OK. Sorry about the deer. Wonderful news that you really like your truck you waited so long for! Blessings, friend! Keep smiling! ;)

@soulsea - got my TRX today.
My salesperson retired last week and came especially to hand over the TRX. So yesterday I swung by the liquor store to get him a whisky.
I got him a McCallan 12 Cherry Cask which is one of my faves, and since I saw a Knob Creek 15 right next to it, remembering seeing it in your post, I figured I'll grab one as well. I tried it yesterday and I quite enjoyed it, so thanks!

That's a great catch, they're getting harder to find ... glad you enjoyed it. (y)

Cheers! :)

Well Mr. @soulsea my chores took muck longer than I would have cared for, so please excuse my tardiness, I will do my best to catch up. The 2 bottles on the left are reloads, all the others are new to me.... so any critique and or opinion would be welcomed. Cheers.

Also picked up one of my favorites Oban 14 that I’m looking forward to reacquainting myself with its goodness.

I’ve almost killed my bottle from a few weeks ago. It’s great. Have you had Pikesville? I thought that one was solid as well at the $50 mark.

I like Pikesville but it's not my favorite. It's more of a me issue as at 110 proof it's treading close to where the alcohol content starts to burn my throat and overpowers the taste subtleties. Again this is personal preference ... all my bourbon friends wet their panties when they score a bottle of Stagg Jr, I on the other hand wouldn't feed it to my truck as fuel. Again, don't hate the Pikesville, but I much prefer the Boxergrail. (y)

@Caliche - I'm a big Oban fan! Oban 18 if you find it is a couple of bucks more then 14 and is phenomenal. And my favorite ever Oban Distillers Edition, really hard to find but so good.

Thanks, I will search it out as I haven’t had the pleasure yet. Cheers.

Had to grab this while I was at the liquer store. Cooperstown is only an hour from me. It's not too bad....not a Knob Creek 15 by any means! 😉 But for 30 bucks, it beats Jim Beam!
