Complete installation instructions for adaptive cruise control ACC for our TRX

I don't have a programming video unfortunately and the dealer no longer has the ability to do it, so the only way is to use Alfa OBD to program.

I have to ask, @PotterTRX , as I haven't seen it mentioned in this thread, but with doing the reprogramming, adding the switch, and not being able to have the dealer add the code to your VIN, what does this do from a warranty perspective? Are crappy dealers going to void any warranty work on electrical, ECU or other related component issues?

Because it's factory parts I couldn't imagine the dealers/mechanics picking up on the fact that it was done. It's not obvious like some aftermarket stuff. They can be looking right at it and not realize it's done by you

Would they be able to tell the ECU was customized or settings in it were changed? Or would they notice that the VIN doesn't have that option?

This a good question, I will be going another truck here shortly with alfaOBD for the programming and I will poke around with the factory scan tool after to see if I can see anything weird.

Just a public service announcement for you guys attempting this:

I programmed my truck with the Tazer DT and alphaOBD and it worked great. Ran the adaptive cruise all day, no problems to note. HOWEVER. BE AWARE. The tazer DT marry/unmarry function does remember what you are changing. So if you install the switch, program it with a married tazer as your bypass, and then later unmarry the tazer… cruise control will go away. Both adaptive and regular. Trying to find a way around that now

So I have the level 1 equipment group can I still do this? And also the bypass and everything come out correct? Maybe that’s in the vid ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Next question. With the software and bypass can you remove the speed governor?

Yeah, that was my next plan of attack and it should be delivered tomorrow. However, about 15 minutes ago (at 11pm, much to my fiancé’s annoyance) inspiration struck and it worked out.

For ya’ll trying to do this with the tazer, the tazer works as a security bypass without being married. Just plug it in and don’t marry it. Follow the steps as outlined, and alphaOBD will work just fine.

If your tazer is married and you go through these steps, when you unmarry the tazer the adaptive cruise will go away since it wasn’t a stock setting when you first married it. However, as I said before, there is a glitch while it reset everything to “stock”, my regular cruise DID NOT COME BACK. After uninstalling/unmarrying the tazer, I had no cruise control of any kind anymore. So be careful with that.

Highly recommend that if you’re going to use a tazer as your security bypass, you have it unmarried when you make your changes with AlphaOBD. Good luck everyone

You'll be ok because you made the change before you installed the tazer.

When you "marry" the tazer, it downloads all your vehicles presumably stock settings in order to "return it to stock" if you ever have to unmarry. Because you made the changes before you installed the tazer your "stock settings" now include Adaptive Cruise. Therefore, in theory, when you unmarry the tazer it should return you to the way your vehicle was operating the minute before you installed the tazer. In your case, with Adaptive Cruise functioning.

On my 21 TRX, I had to reset the ECU, turn off the vehicle, wait about 10 mins, turn on the vehicle for everything to be recognized and have no errors screens or issues with all the sensors (front, airbag, etc). Haven't had a single issue since. I'm not sure why that worked though so proceed at your own risk.

Did the same. I went back through and verified that my 2 changes were saved, reset the ecu in alpha, turned truck off, opened and closed door and waited on full power down, then when I powered back up it was gone and all was well.

Weird did everything again and did a ecu reset, shut it off and let the truck sit for a few hours and still have the same issues. Wonder if it's just not meant to be on this truck lol

Did you backup the factory configuration? Also what OBD reader are you using?
I've heard of some funky stuff happening with some cheap or not so good readers.

I think I just figured out the issue, since I am working with a limited trim truck not a TRX the ABS module and HCU are different and need to be changed on non TRX trucks per the 5th gen RAM forums

I also had those. Drove around for a min and nothing worked. Parked and turned off...back on a minute later and lights were gone and acc worked

I've also heard of doing the steps out of order causing issues. Deactivate cruise first, then activate ACC.
