I performed the UC5 upgrade on my 2021 limited. I wanted to share my experience in case anyone else is trying this modification and runs into some issues.
A list of current modifications that had been previously installed that led to some issues and did not realize it at the time. I had to de mod the truck in order to get some functions to show up in ALFA OBD II.
Installed - Pulsar Tuner
Installed - TAZAR DT.
Replaced:
Radio Module Replaced with 2023
Replaced Screen New Screen 2024
Replaced EVIC to 2023
Replaced Camera Module to 2024
Reinstalled back - EVIC to 2021.
Typical removal and installation as per the thread instructions. no big showstoppers or hang ups. Just take your time and proceed with caution. It may seem scary when pulling trim pieces but trust they will release when pulled. some pry tools are nice to have just to relieve some stress points.
Programed using ALFA to change date to 2023 on Radio system.
Calibrated the Surround View.
Because the Pulsar Tuner was installed, ALFA could not read the ECU data properly, which prevented me from calibrating the sound view camera. all cameras accept the from camera would not perform the full test. So, if you have Pulsar Tuner installed, remove it first. Once the camera is calibrated reinstalled.
I also unmarried the TAZAR DT to ensure all factory settings could be saved using ALFA OBD II. Once the modification was completed, I reinstalled both the Pulsar and the TAZAR.
During this modification I also swapped out the Instrument cluster to a 2023 model. I was happy with everything, but came to realize without the BCM or the Bypass cable installed, I was not going to see any maps on the display. I had driven about 500 miles with the digital display and though I liked the look, I still missed the analog gauges. Understanding that I can choose an analog style in the digital display, it just did not look quite the same. At the time I was going to place the by pass harness into the system to display the maps on the digital display I was in need to bring the truck in for warranty work. Not wanting to give the dealer any reasons to void the warranty I had to swap back to the analog and perform the mileage correction.
Please note when doing the instrument cluster swap, change the instruments to read kilometers and record the values for the future updates. Updating the milage on the analog screen through ALFA OBD II requires the changes to be made in kilos. Recommend recording all distances in kilos and adjust using kilos. I was able to get within 1/10th of a milage.
Once I had reinstalled the analog gauge cluster, I noticed that when using Apple Car Play and Apple Maps, the turn-by-turn directions are now being displayed in the EVIC center screen, as well as on the HUD. Unlike the UC 4 system I never seen Apple Car Play / Apple MAPS show up in the EVIC. I tried WAZE and Google Maps, but they did not show up. Note as well when using Apple Maps and WAZE at the same time, the Turn by Turn did not show up in the EVIC.
Because this feature is working, I am not sure I want to go back and install the digital display, well not until they can figure out how to resolve the Milage correction.
The only issue I am having is that when reinstalling the TAZAR DT on the latest Firm Wear (18.26) I am now getting a "Trailer Steering Unavailable" message appear on the EVIC. When I unmarry the TAZAR the message does not show up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
