RAVELCO THREAD

For those that are interested. Here is the video.

$155 bucks and they say it is a 40 minute install job that you can do yourself. This with the Ravelco seem like a reasonable combination. You already cannot open the door or the horn sounds, so bust a window now, the horn sounds. That should end it, but if not them having to screw with the missing plug will certainly cause them to hit the road.

Yeah, this is the Florida guy I watched too! This is exactly what I was thinking.

That video is classic. I thought it would be something simple, but he looked like he was defusing a bomb. Had a hand written diagram and shit to record his results. If I get fucked by comrade Ivan Drago I'm going to just chalk that up as a lulz and a thank god for insurance.
Yeah. I am also wondering if it really only took four minutes. At any rate, you're right. 999/1000 thieves are not even going to attempt that. And, again, he had the door open. Our trucks' horn will sound if armed and you open the door.

BTW, I have contacted the shock sensor company. Fast response and they will send you a install video when you buy the kit. I'll still have my shop do it when they add the amp and sub, but they assure me it takes about 40 minutes and no special tools or knowledge.

Yeah the video beat my post by a few seconds. Sounds like it's a must with the ravelco, thanks
Unless my shop can really sell me on the Viper system that is roughly the same cost, I think Ravelco and the add a shock sensor kit it is! I will fully investigate the Viper solution first. I like to have options.

Ravelco defeats fob cloning, Shock defeats smash window and push thefts . . .

. . . but, I'd like to have a tilt sensor as well ( that defeats the tow truck and dolly theft - no broken windows )

Agreed. The Viper system has that as a feature. I just am not sure you cannot defeat using cloning. I have an email into Viper on this as well as my shop.

I wonder how sensitive the shock sensor is...it may go off if they try loading it.

I have read where the first thing they do is hit the window or shake the truck to see if it goes off....

They also have a module for the tail gate too. I am probably going to have that installed too. I like the way it all works with the factory fob.

Thanks, may order tomorrow!

Let us know which direction you go. I like the viper system but weighing the options. Had a local dealer quote me $1200 (w/install) for a Compustar T13 Pro Lte system. You have to carry two remotes….

I am just going to park mine in the garage and never take it out.
Actually, I am reconsidering painting the Ravelco thing black. I might just go AK Chuck and paint it bright yellow and put it right next the ignition button. After watching Vladi in the video take an hour to defeat it, I feel more confident than ever. :)

The Ravelco is just a fancy, ugly kill switch, and as that video shows, it can be defeated with a multimeter. We really need to be hammering Ram about releasing the RF Hub security update for the TRX.

I've been using Ravelco plugs since 2004. Here in Houston, trucks get stolen often. I even had a previous 2007 Ram 2500 diesel that was attempted stolen in a grocery store parking lot. They got into the truck, tried to force the ignition switch (key) but the Ravelco wouldn't let it start. Had to get the ignition switch replaced, and the column repaired on that truck.

Installed the Ravelco on my TRX the first week I bought it. It disables the ignition and the fuel injectors. No chance starting it without the plug in place.

Also, after watching that Russian? video posted earlier, I went outside and tested my Ravelco plug like was shown in the video. The plug has zero power in any of the holes, unless the ignition is on. This means a thief would need your key fob or some way to start the truck (false fob, computer, etc..) and also be an electrical engineer to start it. Goooood luck with that happening in any parking lot.

^^ where did you install the device in your truck? Thank you...

.
mine is exactly like this photo, which also is another TRX. It isn't in the way, at all. My leg doesn't come close to it.

I suspect a thief who's figured out how to program a new key on the fly or has tracked down a key signal repeater from Alibaba is smart enough to work a multimeter. I think the logic of a Revelco is that, upon seeing it, that thief will move on the next vehicle that's easier to steal.

On the other hand, once Ram releases the RF Hub security update, our trucks won't be susceptible to theft by reprogramming the computer to a new key. And we all have control over the repeater scenario - i.e., don't store your key near your truck or store it in a Faraday box/bag.

At the end of the day, I'd much rather have the RF Hub security update than lug a big ass Revelco fob on my key chain.

While I agree the manufacturer should have developed a more secure system, the plug is less than half the size of your key. But we can complain about it, or walk/uber home when our truck gets stolen and still have the key in our pocket. Or, we can do something to help avoid that situation. I already had one truck theft foiled by this simple plug, so I know it works.

So assuming the car in that video had a keyed ignition, the key would have been turned on so the plugs could have had any power, correct? In other words, with a push button type ignition the plugs would not have any power at any time?
