What is this noise/ sound from the engine?

Any chance you can replicate the pulley wobbling? And if so can you post a video?

Just reach in and grab the pulley and move it when the service advisor comes out to take a look. It’s pretty obvious to them when you do that.

@RamCares - Mind helping me out as well? My truck has been in the shop for 2+ weeks. Service supervisor is not giving me any updates on when the supercharger will be in to fix the truck and they are not giving me a loaner either. Unacceptable for a 100K vehicle.

@rao26 Are you saying to try and twist it with the belt still attached?
Nope. Just grab it and wiggle it back and forth. Not turning it. If it’s bad it’ll wiggle slightly up and down or left to right. Have your service advisor grab it and compare it to any other pulley and it becomes pretty obvious.

@rao26 Thanks. I did it today and definitely see it moves ever so slightly. I also took slow motion video of it and you can see that is oscillates as opposed to being steady like the other belt connections. Hopefully it will be enough.

If you and the dealer determine the water pump needs to be replaced, it should be covered under your power train warranty if it's still relevant to your mileage and years. I just picked my truck up from the dealership after a replacement and all is back to being quiet and no wobble.

Water pump bear is shot. They will be replacing water pump under power train warranty, a nice surprise I wasn't expecting. The technician said the pulley was and is wobbling, and was surprised I wasn't leaking coolant around it. Pump is ordered and will have the parts replaced next Thursday. He advised to have the coolant system flushed and replaced to evacuate any floaters that may have come off the shaft or bearing. Still keeping my fingers crossed all goes well.
Do you have a video of the sound?

Can you post the video?

I didn't get a video of the movement or sound, but it was an identical noise to the video "Omega" post at the beginning of this conversation.

I must be getting old because I don’t remember whether or not the truck made this sound when I first got it in 2021. If you listen to the video, it almost sounds like a purring noise coming from the engine. It is cyclical and appears to increase in frequency with engine motion. I open to anyone’s thoughts/ideas on what it may be. I have not yet approached the dealership on this issue, if it even is one.

Please let me know if you cannot hear and I will upload to YouTube.

Looking back at your video and comparing it to my issue, mine did not have the sporadic “purring” noise. Any updates on your situation?

Here are the videos I sent the dealer. Waiting to hear back.

You can definitely see a wobble in the water pump shaft and by transfer of motion, the pully... in the low speed video.

WTF?! I hope you're still not dealing with this. I can tell you from personal experience, this is 100% the water pump. I had the EXACT same noise, took it to the dealer and they IMMEDIATELY identified it as the water pump.

Unfortunately I have not heard back from the dealership. I’m going to call again tomorrow. I may have to find a different dealer that can more effectively address the issue.
