VIN “811 & 812” April Order Group

Overall I am happy to see we had several trucks get build sheets yesterday! And they were some of the ones with the parts we are assuming are on limited supply. Now if we could only understand why they start building some trucks before others, that would be cool. My original theory was due to parts shortages, but I am seeing trucks with the same features plus more, being built before others. I feel bad for those folks who ordered in 2020 and still haven't gotten it.

Today is gonna be the big story. If no build sheets posted, we’re all another two weeks delayed.

Got a little update from the Ram Truck Information Center this morning (see below). I'll feel better when I can get access to my Window Sticker.

This is a courtesy email update regarding your all-new Ram 1500 TRX factory order status.

Good News! Your new Ram 1500 TRX has been built and is currently in the shipment process. Given the early stages of shipping, a delivery estimate is not yet available to share.

As promised, we are continuing to prioritize your order with our factory resources to ensure your order remains prioritized for next steps.

I will continue to monitor your order with our logistic resources teams. Once additional updates become available for your order, I will be reaching out further to you to share these updates. Your authorized ordering dealership will be an additional excellent resource for any order updates or questions you might have.

I will continue to follow your order and provide details as they become available. Thank you for your loyalty and we’re proud to have you as a member of the Ram Family!

Best wishes,
Cara

Anyway, in the end I wouldn’t feel bad if another truck came up and I had to burn them on this deal.

Since you probably wouldn't be paying over MSRP, but maybe a bit below, you wouldn't exactly burn them by backing out.
They'd just slap an extra 5 to 20K on it and sell it to someone else.

True. House always wins. I think the most leverage I have over them is a clean and desirable trade. Mainly because supply issues have prevented GM from building them with certain options my truck has. Just don’t wanna get stuck waiting too long here…I’d like to cash in on that.

Some claim that used car prices have started to level out, but it's also been said that this chip shortage will last for at least another six months.
I'm guessing that you still have a few months before worrying about the trade-in value.

thats how I feel too. I have been asking myself the question - who is buying these used trucks for crazy amounts of money? I drive by the dealerships near me, and see the used lots are overflowing with used truck inventory.

... who is buying these used trucks for crazy amounts of money?
It must be people with a very strong instant gratification need.

"Worst" case so far, sold my '20 Trackhawk after about 16 months and got $79 K for it. Thought I did quite well since I'd paid almost 5K less for it new.

Curiosity got the better of me and a few weeks later I looked up the VIN to see what happened to it.
Now it was for sale in Oklahoma...for $97.5K.

That's nearly 10K over MSRP. Yes, it has low miles and was well cared for, but jeez. Anyway, it leaves almost $10K to feed the ordered TRX, and all I had to do was wait about three months for the TRX to get built.

Prices are coming back down. The highest offer I got for my truck a few months ago was 2k over what I paid more than 2 years ago. Right now offers from the same sites are sitting around 2k under what I paid.

So my current truck is back to depreciating while my ordered TRX also depreciates before it’s even built. Only difference is I have to pay the same for it no matter when it arrives. Not really worried about it aside from the fact that I was operating under the assumption I had my moves timed out perfectly. 🙃

Can you turn in your trade now? We just did that with another Trackhawk, also getting thousands more than we paid for it, and the new ordered vehicle will supposedly show up in late December or January next year.

I got on offer on my 2016 GMC Sierra, that was $14k above what I paid new. Now it’s back down to what I paid. It’s sucks but I can’t trade in early

Fortunately my dealer is holding my trade allowance to what we agreed at the time of order.

Reactions: Two
I'm shocked to see Triple B's post a few minutes ago about how (25) 2022's have been built already. BUT they are pilot/press trucks, not customer trucks. Still, I would have expected ALL the 2021's to be built before anything 2022 rolled down the line. I really think they should throw UConnect5 in the remaining 2021's for giving us the D for so long :ROFLMAO:

Reposting what I just posted on Triple B's "Trucks Found Today" post from earlier,

"Sooooo...I just got a call from my dealership. He said he got a call from someone at "production", and there was a big "allocation meeting" today(maybe the one mentioned in a post above?), and my truck is supposedly scheduled to head down the line on August 2nd. I asked if that means I'm in D1 yet, and he said I don't go into D1 until my truck actually goes down the line. I guess I'll believe it when I see it!"

They initially wanted to put me in a courtesy vehicle in order to take my truck right away. Which was a bizarre proposition. But since it’s my only vehicle with a hitch, I need it, and I’m glad I didn’t give it to them with how long this is dragging out.

I sent out another email to my dealer expressing my frustration. I don’t need anyone to kiss my ass there, but I’m looking at a minimum of 13 weeks between order and even a chance it gets built. Enough is enough.

Highly doubtful but it would be nice if our remaining ‘21 orders were converted to 22’s…. lol

That would be the one thing they could do to make us less angry about the wait. Which means they won’t. I know it’s a logistical nightmare and pipedream anyway.

Converting our VIN's to 2022's sounds messy, especially with the magical system they have in place for numbering/building these trucks. And then do we go to the back of the line behind the thousands of 2022's that have already been ordered? Or will Jeff upgrade our "priority" to "prioritized priority"? Doubtful. Plus, my dealer said my 2021 was getting built the week of August 2nd, per the guy in Production that called him this morning.

I see 2 outcomes: 1) our 2021's get built as ordered(UConnect4), and then they immediately start pumping out 2022's with UConnect5's after ours are done. Or 2) they build out our 2021's, but give us the new system and potentially any new minor tweaks they make for MY2022. Our VIN's are NOT tied to the UConnect4 system. I checked my POC and there is no mention of "UConnect" anywhere, AND the Window Stickers only say, "Uconnect® 12.0–Inch Display with Navigation". That gives me a glimmer of hope. If that actually gets confirmed, it makes the extended wait worth it!

Now that you mention it, maybe I should refuse my order (it won't be at the dealer for several days anyway) and wait with ordering until the UConnect6 is available?

On that subject, what does UConnect do in the first place?

If it comes down to UC5 somehow being designed with components that are either cheaper, and/or more readily available in these crazy times, it might happen. But I doubt it very highly.

Overall I’m not too concerned with which Uconnect I get. All I do with it is change stations. To me, the bigger appeal would be converting the actual order to a 2022. At least there’s a monetary value in having the newer model year. But I won’t wait longer for it.
