Trx front diff drop

@FULLTHROTTLERICK
Could you share your thoughts on the differential drop? Did it perform well, considering how much off-roading you do?
So we did an install vid if you haven't seen that. It covers some of the pains we experienced doing the install solo with 0 experience messing with a differential in the past (other than oil changes). Here's that link:

Since then we've swapped one spacer from the smaller to the larger, particularly the back driver's skid plate bolt -- as the diff was chafing the skidplate just a teeny tiny bit. Since then no issues. They supply smaller and larger spacers to use as needed in the kit. Ground clearance was affected virtually 0. The front diff skid is still tucked up higher than the bash plate in front of it so no potential for dragging/catching on anything.

We paint penn'd all the bolts and everything is still lined up perfectly. We used anti-seize on most of the bolts if memory serves so i did have concerns about things loosening up but everything is good so far.

Honestly, i dont even remember it's down there. We havent noticed any change in the way the truck drives or feels (which is good IMO). The angle of the CVs is much happier so we expect them to last a lot longer. The boots aren't chafing into each other nearly as much as before so I'd expect them to last longer too. Obviously nothing is going to keep the boots or the CVs from lasting forever but I suspect that if you started with brand new CVs at the time of the diff drop install, you'd be good for a helluva lot longer than you would without the drop.

In short, 0 regrets & 0 negatives. I would 100% do it again except I'd use my discount code so i could actually save a few bucks :ROFLMAO:

I guess that's because their RCV axle offering has already taken a dump

I like the disclaimer at the bottom of their diff drop description :ROFLMAO:

"**PLEASE NOTE**
CV Boot and banding failure is still possible with this diff drop and installation can aggravate the banding and cause banding and boot failure."

RCV is still on the market and continues to be sold. A few hundred are out and being run currently and we are backordered at the moment. But we do have the ability to design and build our own parts, we also recognize the value in offering other solutions like a diff drop. Plus we need to see if we can use our diff drop with the RCV axles as well since the RCV are a different design and dimensions at least. as many have asked if it can be done and we don't know as we haven't tested it. Although we've encountered a couple of issues with RCV axles, they have been addressed. One issue was the expansion of the boots, which can hit the sway bar. To mitigate this, we recommend using adjustable links, and we also worked with RCV to update their boot design, which has since been implemented.

It’s important to clarify that we are not RCV; we simply sell RCV components where our diff drop is involved, it is us. Our level kits and diff drops are ours, and not another brand or company. We worked closely with RCV for over a year, contributing to the testing and development of their CVs. While a few issues were identified during that process and obviously after, the same applies to the diff drops. For example, we've had five TRXs come through with diff drops and still experience axle failures. One is in the shop today for us to fix the boots and rebuild. On the other hand, we've sold several hundred axles, and although there were a couple of instances of banding issues, we've traced those to an automation calibration issue, which is easily resolved by replacing the band. Overall we wanted to do the CVs in-house but the price would have been way more and wasn't viable plus we don't have the ability to make boots. We can just machine metal.

We acknowledge that dealing with axles in this platform has been a challenge, but it's also important to note that RCV axles haven't experienced any full failures. We even ran a set through extensive testing with no grease, and after installing a boot, they were good to go. Plus, RCV axles are stronger overall.

Ultimately, our goal is to provide viable solutions and continue developing quality parts. We’ve got a few more products in the works for the TRX and RHO that we’re excited to introduce and those will be out soon.

Our disclaimer is to address what we have seen and what we hear from consumers and those who have done different options to make sure that no one thinks the diff drop is the end all be all. While for some like yourself, it can be. Same with many who are running our rebuilds and some who are running the axles from RCV.

@RogueOffroad can you post photos of the diff drop kit?
We have a coding issue on the site for the TRX and RHO catagories. In fact all last week no one could go to trx or RHO as we caused an issue we are working on this. but taking care of the whole section is a priority vs the products that we lost photos of. Plus we have our day-to-day and its only 3 people in the office trying to do all this and I suck at the website stuff. Fortunately, I didn't cause the issue. Wait maybe that's bad, HAHA. Hang tight .

Hey, planning on using eibach springs to lift my truck. How much ground clearance am I expected to lose with the diff drop?

The website says expect to lose ground clearance. Just not sure how much
In theory, you should, but even after spacing the skid plate down from the Diff, it stills sits higher (more tucked up) than our bash plate so ground clearance unaffected on our rig.

Thats wild

I was going to say. Video says about 1.25 inch

THe video shows you lose about 1.25 inches driver and 0.75 inches passenger. How does sliding the plate fix this?

Diff drop bolts backed out on the driver side and caused the broken diff tab…. I used anti seize as instructed.
Highly recommend loctite.

Billet diff tube coming in the next week or 2

I use Loctite on basically everything short of valve caps, but I can’t remember what I used on the diff drop. My paint pen marks are wearing off so it’s probably about time to check them and torque strip them.

Thanks for sharing, but damn sorry to hear this happened. I was looking at those billet tubes a while back but never saw the need. Perhaps there is a need after all. Let us know how it works out!

Ordering through Shawn at Hammer Performance. The Billet diff tube is made by on track 4x4 from Australia

Luckily the whole diff didn't fall out because one of the bolts is captured under the factory mount so it couldn't walk all the way out.

Red loctite will be used on EVERYTHING this time around lol.

Very interested in the billet diff drop as I only want to do this once. CV angles on my stock TRX already worries me so this seems like a good idea before I upgrade the suspension. I think?

Great product and I would 100% do it again. I'm over 1,000 wheel HP and it has held up great with ZERO CV axel issues.
Only thing i would change is to not use anti seize per the instructions and use Loctite.
