TRX Aftermarket Wheel and Tire pics! [size/offset]

@Nitro , just a sugggestion but maybe you could make a sticky thread for the wheels and tires section where people can post pics of their trucks with various brands and sizes of wheels and tires that they have installed on their TRX. Request that people post the size, brand, and specifications of both the tires and wheels they are running. There is a similar thread on a square body forum I'm on, and it's a great reference for people to use when they want to get a visualization of how their truck might look with different wheels and tires.

Here is my contribution:

Tires: 37x13.50r20 Toyo Open Country MT
Wheels: Fuel "Rebel" 20x9 with +20mm offset
Suspension Modifications: None
Trimming required: None
Is there room for a 37x13.50 18 or 20 spare underneath where the original spare goes? I wouldn't want to put a spare in the bed.

That's a good question, but I can't confirm that unfortunately. I want to say I recall someone trying it, but honestly don't remeber if it worked or not.

could you use the stock spare if needed without damaging the truck because of the size difference? obviously only until you could repair the flat.

You could probably limp it somewhere to get it repaired, but I don't think I would drive it for days and days with the mismatched tire size. I've been running trucks without correct size spares for 20+ years. I just carry a plug kit and compressor in most of my trucks without correct sized spares. On the off chance you get a flat you would at least have an option to try and repair. If you are going to offroad a bunch, I'd do what @Two suggested and deflate a full size spare to get it to fit and carry a compressor.

Sorry if this is answered in the 20 pages before my comment lol.. but, I LOVE this. I get my TRX mid april. I was wondering, can I use the factory tires and get those same wheels but smaller to fit? I don’t know a ton about the sizes and what not. Is there a benefit to getting different tires right away? I’m coming from a BMW X3M Comp and the factory tires were junk, needed replaced at 14K miles.

Thanks for the help! So excited to get my TRX!

Congrats on your incoming truck. Yes, you can use your factory tires on a set of those wheels in 18". They make 3 different offsets in the Rebel in 18" size, so choosing the correct offset will determine your options for going up in tire size later on. I'm happy to get you pricing on those, and discuss your options for future tire size changes if you DM me.

I've heard mixed reviews on the factory tires. Some say they are great, and others don't love them as much. I've never put more than about 50 miles on a set of them, so I can't give you any feedback. I imagine they will be fine for most circumstances. A lot of people just like the looks of other tires, so they swap them on right away.

I'm looking to put Nitto ridge grapplers 38x13.50 R20 on the Vossen HF 6-4 20x9.5 wheels. They come stock +15 offset, my question is should I stay with the +15 offset to compensate for the extra 0.5" larger width from the stock wheel or go with the stock offset +19(Vossen offers custom offsets)? If I go with the stock offset (+19) it would put the wheel 0.25" further into the wheel well and 0.25" further out, splitting the difference (which seems like a good idea). I'm not sure if it would work without hitting the suspension on the inside or rubbing on the outside or neither but this seems to be the way to go? The +15-offset moving the wheel out just a bit to compensate for the wider wheel, putting 0.125" of the wheels further in and 0.375" further out. This seems like a good idea also providing it doesn't rub, I`m more Leary of going out with the wheel than in with a tire this tall.

Custom Performance thread on this forum put a Toyo Open Country M/T 37X13.50R20LT on his TRX and according to Toyo`s website this tire specs are 37.0"tall 14.0"wide and he had these results

Tires: 37x13.50r20 Toyo Open Country MT
Wheels: Fuel "Rebel" 20x9 with +20mm offset
Suspension Modifications: None
Trimming required: None
Rubbing: None

If I put a Foutz leveling kit on, 2021-2022 RAM TRX FRONT LEVELING KIT and 2021 - UP RAM TRX REAR SPRING SPACER LIFT KIT 3/4". I saw a guy on YouTube put this exact kit on his TRX and measuring from the bottom of the fender flare he had these results:
Front 39">42" Rear 42.5>44"

I should have no problems with a 38" tire. If Custom Performance can put a 37" tire on with no mods to his suspension, I should be able to put a 38" tire with a levering kit easily. After all we're talking 1/2" on the top and 1/2" on the bottom of the tire and conversely front and back of the tire, right? My question is what offset? What are your thoughts?

I see you like to analyze every angle like I do!

If you have a level kit installed you can "probably" get away with going with the +15 offset they offer "off the shelf" and run a 38x13.50. I can't confirm 100% the wheel will clear everything on the inside, but I'm betting it will.

Just for some data points, we just did a set of 22x10 (et +30) on @bigmyke23 TRX yesterday, and that wheel goes inboard almost 1" more than the factory wheel. It cleared all of the suspension parts (knuckle, etc.). It was a 22" wheel, so that helps some, but I would think a 20" wheel that came further in than stock by .25" would clear things just fine. Vossen does offer custom offsets, but they are more expensive than the off the shelf wheels, and as of last week they had some in stock which means you would get them much quicker.

I'm not 100% on the 38 clearing without rubbing, but if you have seen another guy do it then I would think you could get away with it too.

Let me know where you are located and I can get you a quote for the wheels and tires if you are interested.

I'm in no hurry, I'm leaning towards the factory offset +19 and don't mind the cost or wait. A quarter inch in and a quarter inch out just seems to make sense to me. I don't like the idea of the wheel sticking out to far. It just seems like the potential to rub would be on the outside with a tire that tall. I have not seen this setup on any other trucks before, I'm just doing the math and going by what I have learned from you and others on this topic. The 22x10 +30 offset just seems to confirm my calculations. I really appreciate your time and feedback, I respect your opinions. Thanks again

PS when I look at the video of your Toyo M/T it's close but it clears. I don't know exactly how much more room the leveling kit gives me, I would think at least one inch probably more and were only talking 1/2" higher . Maybe less since Nitto specs the tire at 37.76" tall, almost a quarter inch shy of 38". I don't off road, my truck will never see a mud puddle let alone go off road so I'm not concerned with anything hitting it just has to clear.

I think +19 on the 9.5 rim would be the highest chance of clearing a 38, but I think you could honestly get away with +15. It's about .158" difference of poke between those offsets. From what I recall, the Foutz kit is one of the taller level kits, so it should get some extra clearance. If you don't offroad, then I doubt you would notice a difference in those offsets.

Another data point for you:
I've also run 18x9, -12 with a 37x13.50 Toyo MT on a TRX with a Rogue level kit (without the top plate). This rubs at full lock, but just barely. It hits the lowest screw that holds the lower portion of the fender flare on, but not enough to cause any damage driving on the street. This wheel sits 1.22" further out than stock. The Vossen 9.5, +15 would sit 1" further in than that wheel, which leads me to believe you would have plenty of room for a 38" tire.

Regardless of what you go with, please post up your results. Thanks!

Hi guys! Is there such a thing as a list of approved tires and wheels for a given vehicle type in the USA? For example for RAM TRX any 37x13,50 R18 tires? Here in the EU, it's a terrible bureaucracy ... the only officially approved tires and wheels on the TRX are the ones that have been on it since production. Nothing else can legally put on him.

No list like that as long as they're DOT approved. We could put 44's on the truck if they fit and didn't impact the headlight height.

One issue may be that a 37/13.50R18 requires a wheel that's 10-1/2 to 12-1/2 inches wide.

Many tire shops will (understandably) not mount a tire that's so much too wide for the rim.

EDIT: Apparently there are tires that are approved for only 9-inch wheels. Missed that when i first looked.

It's brand dependent for rim size. For a 13.5r18 Toyo for example, 8.5 to 11 inch wheel is recommended.

do you know if the race line scout in 18x9 -12 offset will fit with stock tires?
They "should". We are finding many 18" aftermarket wheels will fit in -12 offset or more (negative). Some of the aftermarket 18" wheels with less offset (more positive) than that are having caliper clearance issues. I'm pretty sure the stock tires would clear the fenders fine with that offset as well, but not 100% sure.
