SRT Oil Filter thread

I was impressed with the little plastic oil runoff thing below the filter on the TRX. Good thinking by the engineers. Changing the filter on my 19 Ram 5.7 pisses oil everywhere, and you can’t do much about it.
Yeah, they really made everything an easy job. Accessibility is great too. Some people bitch about having to drop the dune guard but that’s never been a big deal to me. Only pain is getting the factory installed filter off. I dunno why they torque it to 1000ft-lbs.

Those green flexible "funnels" work well for that.
I hadn’t seen those before! They’re freaking proud of those at $42. !!!
But…. Thanks for the idea! I can make a perfect custom one out of an empty gallon milk jug.

I would have lots of cut up jugs if making one for each application that the malleable green ones (one small, one large) can handle.

It’s the principle.
$42. Is insanely ridiculous.
Manufacturing cost is probably @$4-8.
I refuse to support companies that push that kind of mark up on customers.
It’s a personal thing.

Then you would probably be better off buying ones in the $10 to $25 range.
I didn't exactly shop at Neiman Marcus when I bought mine.

Do you love it? Can’t live without it?
Fuck…. I’ll buy one just on your personal recommendation!!!!
$42 on Amazon for the two.
(I’ve never shopped at “Needless Markup”…)

Are they made of freaking unobtainium?

Can't say that I love them, and I did live without for several years.

But once spoiled by how quick and easy they are to use, and how much clean-up time they can save, I wouldn't want to be without.

Picture, if you will, a vertical 20 gallon hydraulic tank with a 1-inch drain in the center, a pipe plug. Kinda like an oversize jerry can in shape. There's about a 2-1/2 inch gap below it.

Used to lose the majority of the fluid until getting, and carefully shaping, one of those green ones. Still lose a few gallons as the fluid comes out quite fast, bit it's a lot better.

In comparison, a few drops from a car's oil filter is negligible, but I still use them for that, too.

We have several post where folks are asking about which oil filter to use, or asking for the SRT oil filter number. I figured we could just have a thread for it. This filter has better filtration and better flow than the Mopar recommended filter. It is made by WIX

The SRT filter number is 5038041AA - MO-041
The WIX part number is 57063

I changed my oil at 529 and used the SRT filter. I don't know if it was the fresh oil I put in, or this filter, but the drivetrain was noticeably more quiet. I have seen in other threads people commenting the same when installing this filter.
. . .I just use K&N's.

Working on it. It killed me to pay $15.99 for the Amsoil filter but this is the list of stuff I have now or on the way:

MO-899
MO-041
Fram Ultra XG2
Mobil M1-210A
RP 20-820
Amsoil EA011
Wix 51372
Wix 51372XP
Purolator Boss PLB24651
Purolator Pure One PL24651
Purolator Classic L24651 (Would never use this, but suspect it may be very similar to MO-899, same manufacturer)

And then a couple cheap ones just for fun. Would never use either of these, but the SuperTech isn’t THAT bad actually for $3:

Fram PH2
Supertech ST2

Since these companies are always merging, changing suppliers etc, I’m hoping to have a nice up to date summary we can reference. I’ve found independent efficiency testing on some and will rely on manufacturer data for the rest.
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but did you ever use the amsoil filter? Any issues?

Nope, I bought it to cut open and compare along with several others. Never used one and probably won’t. It’s a nice filter but overpriced IMO.

I have the Amsoil filters just because everything else was out of stock. The amsoil stuff HAS to be bought with the discounts otherwise yea... pricey.

I'm fairly turned off by the business/selling model of Amsoil altogether. Went with Red Line/OEM filter, but always nice to have another option if it turns out the Amsoil is better. Oh well.

Yeah even with my dad being a dealer for it, still a bit on the high side lol.

Man I'm agonizing over this vs the Fram Ultra.. By objective measures the Fram is a better filter and costs half as much, but I keep gravitating to this one.
Sad part is I also know the decision is completely irrelevant and either one will be more than fine but it still doesn't help.. Maybe I need to consult the Magic 8-ball.

For the 392, I used the dealership for the free Jeep Wave oil change at 5k miles and had them use full synth Mopar 0w40 68523970AA (Penzoil Ultra Platinum) and the SRT filter 5038041AA (MO-041).

Wix 51372

22psi bypass

The WIX SRT equivalent is 57063 for whatever that’s worth. The regular WIX is a nice filter too. Just stay away from the XP, efficiency is absolutely terrible.

The Fram Ultra is really nice. I’ve never seen or heard of one failing and it’s still the most efficient filter on the market. I’ve used them a ton on our other vehicles. Have one “in stock” for the TRX too.

Just working through some others at the moment. Right now have a Purolator Boss installed, and also have a RP 20-820 in waiting.
