So long guys

It’s interesting to me, seeing the different perspectives on why people buy/keep the TRX. Seems to be three camps:
  • It’s an investment/commodity, and resale value is the only thing that matters. If resale prices are dropping on it, then dump the TRX like a hot potato.
  • It’s a fun truck to have, but I wouldn’t dream of owning one without a warranty to pay for any repairs
  • I’ll drive this until the earlier of these two events happen: (1) the wheels fall off and it can’t be repaired anymore, or (2) you have to pry my cold dead fingers off of the steering wheel.
I’m part of the last camp, and I’m genuinely curious as to why some people are so afraid of having a TRX without a base or extended warranty. I mean, if something breaks, you just have to pay some money to fix it. I don’t understand.

I’m in camp 3. Two years old and 19k miles. Dusterhoff 9367 calling my name but it’s a risk haha

I know there are plenty of people on here that can afford a TRX. But there are just as many who finance their vehicle and just carry a monthly payment. In this economy, middle class has been getting hosed and there are plenty who don’t have $20-30k liquid to drop on an engine if something goes wrong.

I generally keep vehicles 8 years, which is why I opted for the extended warranty. Granted my warranty is 7 year / 75,000 mile warranty. I plan on keeping the truck as long as it’s reliable. I’d love to see 10 years / 100,000 miles before I have to make any new vehicle decisions.

That 20-30K is a turn key redeye or similar crate engine. Not a rebuilt stock engine.

I dropped over 30k (bad investment but fun) this month at the casinos but $1400 seemed like a good investment to me. Heck that's about 3 table game bets, so why not.:)

I am in Vegas regularly, several times in the past couple months and a few more times in the next 2 months and I have spent a total of $180 at the casinos. They wouldn’t be rich if people won 🤷‍♂️

$30K sounds like "a lot", but its all perspective. To someone who makes $100K per year, that is 30% of their income. For someone who makes $600K - $700K or more per year, its less than 5% and its just fun money. That's a good thing, cuz we cannot take it with us! Cheers!

$180 ? Sounds like you are actually doing okay if you only lost 180 bucks....

When we are in Vegas for the SEMA show, I will usually drop about $50 or $100 max at the machines. I am not a gambler.

I've been a regular gambler for ~40 years now. Over those years I've had to regularly increase my bets to continue to "get my fix". Yes, yes, yes, I know, but I'm not planning on stopping and I can afford it. Besides at my age if I don't blow it having fun now, my family will when I'm gone.

If I could swap out u connect and screens for a tape deck/fm radio I’d do it in a heartbeat
I'm sorry, I cannot help it...

"Be damned your inheritance, I NEED MY FIX!!!!" :ROFLMAO:

My 23 is paid off which makes it hard to ever want to get rid of it.

Ive never enjoyed a vehicle so much a year in. No complaints... but who knows what next year brings?!

Engines just don’t blow up, and even if they do, the power train warranty is longer than the factory warranty.

Regular maintenance goes a long way. But if people are going to mod, tune, and abuse, then yes, you have to pay to play and there’s not going to be any warranty safety net.

People will say they can’t afford to keep a vehicle out of warranty but will get hosed on trade-in as well as pay a large sum of money over the 3-5yr life of their next car when they could’ve just repaired small issues here and there on the original vehicle.

I won’t comment on the abomination the OP traded his TRX in for though. Oops. Guess I just did.
