RIPATUNED 800

Are you guys going off the onboard infotainment? If you are, it’s the center of all the drama and very unreliable. I feel that FCA install these as a sales promotion when you are looking at the performance side of it.

Mine shows that I run a 6.7 @ 96 in the 1/8th, when 2 separate tracks with a tree and time slips show I run a 7.05 @ 101 and a 7.04 @ 101. How do I run a slower time and faster speed on the track clock and the onboard center shows me a faster time and slower speed at the exact track/run. Also shows I ran a 2.3 time 0-60, and we all know that’s BS. No way I’m running hyper-car speeds in a 7k lb truck. Although I would love to have that kinda speed, it’s false.

Nope. Don’t use that garbage on the dash for anything. Draggy GPS or the track.

I agree on the accuracy but what about consistently inaccurate? Hahaha if that makes sense
 
Why are you expecting more than 100hp? It’s literally called their 800 kit and the stock motor is 700…

BoostedToy already touched on it but the reason Hennessy is making that power level with those mods is because they are running a much larger blower. Boost doesn’t really mean anything. CFM is what makes power. You can run the same delta P out of small and large blowers and turbos and the power is based on CFM which equates equally to size as well as your PR. In addition, as you get to the upper limits on what the supercharger (or turbocharger) can produce then you get the hairdryer effect. You are way outside of the efficiency range of the compressor and just end up heating air rather than compressing it. As a result, your actual air density doesn’t go up and your intake charge gets hotter so you have to pull timing / add fuel, etc. You will always make more power by running the same boost level with a larger higher CFM blower.

The reason folks need e85 to get the same numbers on the stock blower as Hennessy gets on pump gas is to mitigate the high temperature of the intake charge due to the poor thermal efficiency from over spinning the blower.

Boost is certainly not boost as you say.

Edit: To be as accurate as possible, m-dot (mass flow rate) is actually what correlates directly to power (that’s why you see lb/min ratings on turbos, etc). Mdot is the combination of CFM and PR (pressure ratio). So assuming the same boost level, CFM then does drive power production, but just wanted to make that assumption clear.
The truck came out today at 720RWHP. Absolutely better that the 100hp your thinking but I thought it would have been better because it seems to be the tipping point for the fuel change.
The truck only had 25 miles on it when I picked it up so I haven't mashed it yet. I had a bit of a talk with Steve and he's telling me Hennessy's numbers are exaggerated quite a bit. He told me that they ran there turboed TRX that they say is 1000 hp in TX against the mammoth 1000 and in the 1/4 it beat it by a full second
I don't really understand it because I was under the assumption to get more hp than the 800 kit you needed to be running on e85 and neither of those do and seem to have more.

There are other forum posts on here showing 30whp difference between AWD and running it as RWD. So…690awhp compared to 580awhp stock (again multiple dyno runs on here showing that) would be 110whp gain and exactly what I told you.

Of course, anyone can manipulate a dyno (which can you post the before and after dyno sheet then so we all have numbers on Ripa’s kit?) so hit the 1/4 and grab the MPH. That will tell all.

Either way, enjoy your truck and the gains… but yes you got somewhere around 110whp jump from stock.

I already explained in this thread how “boost isn’t boost” and Hennessy is getting the additional power through a larger displacement blower and Ripa doing it through larger CFM turbos. Thermal management via staying in the efficient range of the compressor map so you don’t need e85 to suppress detonation.

Also, the Mammoth has heavy steel bumpers, suspension and 37 inch tires on larger wheels. Apples to oranges.
 
Just wrapped up install of the Whipple Gen V 3.0L on my Ram TRX. Hope to be able to hit the dyno in the next day or so to see what numbers we are putting down with E85 and a few other little extras. Was at 815 rwhp before the Whipple, will be excited to see the increase!!!

Big shout out to Steven Ripa @ Ripatuned and his team there for all of the support and steady flow of parts for the build. Could not get it done without the continued customer support and knowledge they have to offer. They really take care of their customers and work hard to continue improving every day!!!

I only see one question in this post, asking about the dyno numbers as a comparison. I know I don't have a dyno comparison from stock on my truck specifically, but I will have a dyno comparison soon where I have gone from the Ripa 900 on E85 to the Whipple 3.0 on E85. After that I will be able to give you a comparison from the Whipple to a Whipple with twin turbos on E85. Maybe not what you are looking for, but its numbers and all that I will have to offer.

Keep in mind that I will have a boost controller and will be keeping the boost moderate since I am working off the stock engine internals. You can turn the boost up and blow the engine to the moon and back, but I am not trying to blow the engine. I will be building an engine to stand behind the Whipple and TTRX from Ripatuned in the near future. HP doesn't happen over night, it takes planning and work to get there if you want to keep it.

Lets get something straight. This thread is about the 800 Ripa kit. A kit that a active member is promoting. A member that is helpful in this forum over and over. I posted this because I have a favorable impression of Ripa, have had there incognito pulley with favorable results and we have others that aren't the god damm know it all's that you pretend to be and want a real life recommendation from a person who's not monetarily connected to the product.
My impression, for the money you can't beat it. I believe I could have installed the kit myself. I think anyone could have. This truck came from Chapmans (65 miles away) and if it wasn't just so convenient to have it delivered there I likely would have installed it myself.
So in short @AZDinoPwr I'm posting here to help forum members, why don't you stop being the typical forum loudmouth know it all and do something productive for the members' here.
To everyone here, the kit works, it makes power. I haven't yet been able to hammer the thing yet but I'm not the dummy @AZDinoPwr is making me out to be. This is a winner and I would recommend it.
I have a strong mechanical background and spoke to the owner Steve who was willing to give me all the time I needed. He IS very knowledgeable. So don't listen to all the naysayers. Ripa products work at a reasonable price.

I can’t wait to see how the new GenV compares. Compressor efficiency is so much better than the IHI unit. Congrats on the install!

I very much understand the process… this truck is still my lowest HP vehicle I have owned in the last decade. I don’t see me building a new bottom end for something that will never fulfill the “need for speed” category for me (too heavy and aero of a barn door) so I’m thinking 900hp and done with the TRX. The new Whipple does promise some potential beyond that while keeping engine stress down.

Buddy you can get defensive all you want and start name calling (it doesn’t make you look good)… I believe it was you snorted “captain logical” at me for simply trying to explain how Hennessy is using a larger CFM blower to get more HP without e85. Not sure why you bring so much emotional commitment to your posts. Why ask for information when you are going to complain about the answers you get?

It’s clear that this process or field is new to you when you ask questions like that and I did my best to try to explain multiple times as well as help set your expectations on performance. I’m sorry that you wanted to live in denial and expect some 200hp increase from what you were having done and got pissed that I tried to knock down those expectations to reality. That’s not me criticizing Ripa at all either.

I have nothing against Ripas kit other than I’m not a fan of the groove design on the lower pulley. But that combo of 18.6k on the blower, injectors, tstat and tune is about as common a package as you will find for the hellcat platform and you can get it from dozens of shops. Ripa has good prices and their tunes seem good from what people say so I have nothing against their package and I told you to enjoy your truck.

The purpose of this forum is not for folks to artificially hype their own products or packages but to share realistic information for everyone to then make informed decisions. Hence why I have asked (4) times now about dyno data but no one is sharing…something I find very weird.

Regardless, I’m sorry if I offended you by trying to answer your questions and manage your expectations… thought people here could handle that.

I can understand where your response comes from. @AZDinoPwr responses have READ a certain way but I believe all he is trying to do is to get comparison between how the power is measured, 4WD dyno vs RWD dyno. The problem we face with 4WD truck is very few shops have 4WD dynos, thus making power numbers vary. Its an easy 30-40 HP difference. His responses due READ kind of condescending but you. have to be careful how you interpret someone's text as it can be typed and read completely differently. Ultimately, from the outside looking in, this has been a great thread and educational for everyone involved. Tuning packages for this engine platform are pretty consistent and produce consistent results at the crank, but we all know WHEEL horsepower is what makes us happy and ultimately whats he's trying to compare.

I have found a local shop who's performance package is EXACTLY the same as Ripas, Satera, Barth etc except its in house installed and dyno proven in house so Ill be going with that. Not that there is anything wrong with anyone elses but Id rather deal with local installers.

Here's the bottom line. Once I get a tank of fuel threw this truck I'll hammer it and we can see what boost it makes. Using simple logic from what we see in the forum a certain boost combined with a certain size injector will produce a predetermined amount of power so long as the tune is good.
I would venture to guess there isn't a single tuner other than Hennessey that has done as many TRX kits as Ripa. (needless to say subject to correction by @AVdinohead) So there tunes should be fairly good.
If they said it was 720 at the wheels why do we need to throw doubt? ~140hp RW gain or ~900 chp. That seems to align with what Hennessy is doing for there 900 kit.
I'm guessing you could install the kit and they could send you a preprogrammed ecu that's fairly close.
When I installed the whipple supercharger on my Chevy it came with a tuner and it was good.
I was told a ported snout bigger throttle body and headers will bring that to 750-760 rwhp.
If I weren't planning to sell the truck I would be tempted.

Stating that you can take boost plus fuel and equate HP outside of just doing pulley changes is idiotic. Power in tuning is made via the balance between AFR and timing advance given that the supercharger pulley (boost) is held constant.

You can easily have a vehicle pushing 20 PSI from the blower make less power than one pushing 17 PSI with the proper tuning.

I literally only jumped into this thread to offer some insight into why “boost wasn’t boost” to help someone out and then tried to manage expectations for Ripa’s kit to really just to protect them. Then was met with antagonistic behavior from someone who clearly doesn’t know what they are talking about. Serves me right for trying to share information… but what do I know right @RedEyeTRX

So you are confirming that they disconnected the front shaft for the dyno and you got a 110whp gain then? Got it
720 - 110 = 610 When have you seen a baseline TRX pull 610 stock? I'm really not understanding your math or what your getting at or what the purpose of this argument is. Would you explain? Do your very best to be as condescending as you can again

Your only reading what you want to see. Did you miss the point where the calculation assumes that the tune is accurate and were making an assumption that after doing hundreds of TRX's Ripa would most likely have it correct or at least very close to correct.
Again I'm posting to help the forum member's make decisions on the ripa 800 kit purchase by giving my first hand experience with this particular product. What are you adding to this to make a positive statement?
Honestly would you like me to give you my phone number so you can just rant stupidity directly to me and not in front of the forum members?
