RIPATUNED 800

All of the dyno results for the TRX on an AWD dyno that I have seen are 560-580 awhp when SAE corrected on stock wheels. The ones that are higher they have disconnected the front drive shaft. That makes sense that the drivetrain loss is around 18-20%.

The Ripatuned 800 kit adds 100hp… looking at the mods it’s easy to see that this package consistently adds 100hp on the hellcat platform regardless of vehicle. So that would correlate to 640-660 awhp given the same drivetrain loss which also matches what I have heard for that kit realistically.

As far as flow numbers for intakes, I actually had a back and forth with AFE in one of those threads about their test method specifically because their differential pressure was lower than the actual flow rate for the motor. Therefore they had to extrapolate significantly.

The values each vendor is using is an artifact of their test setup. And while reducing restrictions at a given delta P will let you know if you are moving in the direction of goodness, it’s not a quantitative method for determining actual improvement in engine performance.
Exactly, because you still have to do the job of filtering and if flow is all you want then just remove the filter like lots of drag cars do. There was a good post about this https://www.ram-trx.com/threads/15-trx-oil-filters-cut-compared.9481/ but it was regarding oil filter efficiency. We just don’t have anything like that with intake media.

I am running the incognito and picked up about .2 sec in the 1/8th. I walk scat packs now. I definitely can feel a difference in power and have to turn traction control off or I will get unpredictable launches and it will slow me down a lot as the roll has to initiate before the power comes back on. Ripatuned claims 40-60 whp I believe which puts you with just a lower pulley for me in the high 700 hp with drivetrain loss. I make a bit higher boost than most because I have a negative density altitude. I am trying to see the value in the ripatuned 800. It feels more like a parts sell to me. I’m shopping btw 😄. Waiting on some parts to come in before I pull the trigger on a tune. I think a catch isn’t really that big of deal for stock applications but when you turn boost up you will get a little more oil in places the government thinks it should go as if that is better for the environment and I don’t think it can be good thing to have to account for in tuning. So what made you pull the trigger on ripatuned instead of one of the others?

I'm going to tell you if when I pick my truck up at Ripa where it's getting the 800 kit and it only has 100 extra hp I'm not going to be happy camper. I don't understand, Hennessy gets 770 RWHP out of there mammoth kit with the mag supercharger every time and gets it on pump fuel. Hennessy is not making magic. No ported anything, no exhaust work, no bells and whistles. There adding boost, fuel and tuning. Does changing to the mag supercharger do that much? Boost is boost to a certain degree? You guys are stating to get into those figures you need E85. Why such a big discrepancy?
That's not consistent with what Hennessy is doing and I can't believe there lying about there net performance figures. Why aren't you guys able to touch there numbers.
 
Here is a dyno of mine with Injected Engineering running the Ripa 900 on E85 in Georgia. At that time I had AR headers, ported snout and CAI in addition to the 900 kit. Tires were stock and only about 60% contact surface with the dyno due to the width of the axle/tire set up on the TRX. With the proper tire set up and contact, would have made over 800 rwhp. Front axle was removed for this dyno run.

Numbers say 769 and 709
Chart shows over 800 and around 770

Maybe someone can expand on that if you choose. I didn't ask when I ran the dyno, time was limited and was in a rush that day.

Not sure if this info helps any of you asking, but its something to consider.
Your saying that your running consistent 10.7's with 769 rwhp? Hennessy is showing 780 rwhp and not touching that.

Why would you not install it yourself? Does it really make a difference. TRX 2 is going to them Tuesday.
I bought it to run it but have decided to slow down (pun intended) with the truck as I have a Super Stock coming and have started to stock up on parts for it. Once here, the plan is to go back to the R-TRX 800 setup since I’m going to be using it to tow the Super Stock to and from the race track.

I have not seen a compressor map for the IHI 2380. Does anyone have one they can share? The Eaton TVS superchargers are generally very efficient at low to moderate pressure ratios. They can move a lot of air as a PD supercharger (technically, they are blowers, versus compressors as the IHI is being a twin screw, where internal compression occurs - in advance of discharge to intake manifold).

Twin screws typically shine and do better at higher PR’s than Roots SC’s. The TVS’s closed the gap but there still should be a gap at higher PR’s, largely due to the turbulence occurring with reversion of air with the high PR environment in the intake manifold pushing back against the rotor tips and case, which creates heat. Screws have an inherent advantage in this regard.

I didn’t go with Ripatuned. Personally I’m not a huge fan but that’s just me. I put together my own package based on keeping the motor and blower in the thermal efficiency range (found the blower thermal map over on ramTRX.org). Unfortunately parts are all sitting in the garage while it’s 100 deg in Phx summer so I won’t install for a few months when it cools down (no AC in the garage). Curt (Dusterhoff) is doing my flex tuning.

Why are you expecting more than 100hp? It’s literally called their 800 kit and the stock motor is 700…

BoostedToy already touched on it but the reason Hennessy is making that power level with those mods is because they are running a much larger blower. Boost doesn’t really mean anything. CFM is what makes power. You can run the same delta P out of small and large blowers and turbos and the power is based on CFM which equates equally to size as well as your PR. In addition, as you get to the upper limits on what the supercharger (or turbocharger) can produce then you get the hairdryer effect. You are way outside of the efficiency range of the compressor and just end up heating air rather than compressing it. As a result, your actual air density doesn’t go up and your intake charge gets hotter so you have to pull timing / add fuel, etc. You will always make more power by running the same boost level with a larger higher CFM blower.

The reason folks need e85 to get the same numbers on the stock blower as Hennessy gets on pump gas is to mitigate the high temperature of the intake charge due to the poor thermal efficiency from over spinning the blower.

Boost is certainly not boost as you say.

Edit: To be as accurate as possible, m-dot (mass flow rate) is actually what correlates directly to power (that’s why you see lb/min ratings on turbos, etc). Mdot is the combination of CFM and PR (pressure ratio). So assuming the same boost level, CFM then does drive power production, but just wanted to make that assumption clear.

Very interesting responses to this thread, thank you to everyone chiming in. I have an incognito pulley and SuperStock aFe intake and had a stock truck with heavier/bigger wheels/tires pull on me. Not happy with the performance of my truck. Add that the overly rich fueling from the factory, Im wondering if my plugs are toast and causing under performing results. This has led me to shopping for tune packages, Riptauned Satera Dusterhoff HHP etc... They do seem all over the place. I dont want to go E85 like I originally thought, the idea of never having true E85 unless you test it at the pump is to worrysome. Rather just have a true 93 tune with TCM tunes, injectors and pulley upgrade. I wish the OEM tunes weren't so shitty. They over fuel and have cat over temp situations, especially for me down here in the swamp. But I believe this is why stock trucks are all over the place dyno-wise. There are stock trucks running 3.5 to 60 stock and mine with pulley cant even get back to its best of 3.9, Im at 4.3 right now. I do have 20" Vossens and 325/60 tires so I expect some loss, but the pulley added ZERO performance as I was 4.3 before and after the install....

1). Outside temp, elevation, weight and so on. Hennessey has 37’s, bumpers and other things. When I’m running for best times I drop all the weight I can off the truck and calling out times in the best conditions.

2). The dyno numbers and times aren’t at the same mod list time frames. I have been constantly adding and changing mods since I’ve had the truck.

I don’t remember calling out times here on this forum, maybe I did. Last confirmed times I have are 1/8th mile at 6.98 @ 101 and it was around 95 dg outside.

Lots of things to consider when you are comparing trucks and mods. They are never apples to apples unless you are on the same track, same time, same driver same mods.

Just out of curiosity did you grab your MPH on those passes and calculate HP based on it and compare to the dyno results? The stock TRX MPH in the 1/4 matches really well (705hp) with the advertised motor output.

Not sure who said it but I am running consistant 10.7's with the R-TRX 900 kit. No idea what the whp is as I can't find an AWD dyno close by that can handle the width and length of this thing....lol

Are of any of these performance companies based in texas at all Ripa is just a little to far away for me to be looking at. Or maybe i should look At the hellcat cars page I believe they have some tuning and parts packages out of Houston anyone know?

Ripa's tuner is based in TX. Ripa also has dealers in TX as well. :cool:

Guessing you guys dyno’d it stock in a different gear then? Little bump in rev limit wouldn’t account for that much shift in wheel speed. This an AWD setup or front shaft disconnected?
