RHO gears… for trx

I’ll let everyone know. But when it comes to install, I’ll be hitting up one of the trx experts.
There is a guy here who is a ram mechanic I want to say in Michigan or Kansas or something.

I’ll likely see if he will do the install for me and I’ll drive out and back from Cali.
Kansas. Tyler Potter.

Front Drivetrain
  • Gearworks 4.88 front diff
  • Dans Driveline

RW-80 Rear End

  • Billet 3 rd member, 4.88 Gear, 40 Spline E-locker
  • Ultimate 40 spline unit bearings
  • Ultimate bearing cups
  • 40 spline Axles
  • RW-80 TT housing
That’s an ifs full diff member from gearworks in the front.

Although GW might be willing to make a carrier and gear set for the oem front diff if they had 10 buyers… usually 10 sets is the minimum

I don’t think he is using a stock front differential if he is using an lsd
He told me that he swaps out the front carrier assembly with a Raptor carrier.

Do you know of any customers who can provide a review for the RW-80?

I think wavetrac also offered to make kit for the front if enough interest was there.

The truck is listed but I dont see any driveline components available yet for the RHO. But I'm stoked about the ability to run a semi-factory 3.92 gearing. I've been looking for a re-gear option ever since switching to 37's 12 months ago. Its made 8th gear all but useless.

Yea we never see 8th gear either but we run in sport trans mode 99% of the time so it's always in 6th or 7th max

It would have to Flat ground or slight down hill no wind in auto

Technically, the MOTOR is stock, but I don't think that was what you were asking lol. I've got an upper and lower pulley, headers, ported blower, and a couple other mods. Speedo is recalibrated.
I think we know why yours cruises well in 8th now lol

Sure, but you'd be surprised how little difference the mods make at low throttle angle.

On my 2014 R/T it's night and day because the truck would open the throttle body 100% before downshifting. You can lug that motor all day long, and with the 3.92s it's a very smooth 70-90 mph cruise.

The TRX downshifts way before the throttle body is all the way open, or at least way before the supercharger bypass is all the way closed, I haven't datalogged to see which. Either way, the TRX is capable of WAY more oomph before downshifting, it's just not programmed that way. My guess is it's partly a safety measure to avoid blowing the motor up, and partly a fuel efficiency thing. I've locked it in 8th a few times to see what happens and it moves in and out of open vs. closed loop operation pretty smoothly. On E85, I'd say run it WOT at any RPM and don't worry about it, but on 93 I'd rather not push it.

Point is, a stock TRX is going to downshift to avoid open-loop just like a modded one. When open-loop kicks in depends on how much air is coming in, which is correlated more with load than max engine output.

Maybe I'm watching too many Icelandic Glacier vehicle mods.... and excuse tonights severe ADHD

PORTALS: ...
F150 Portals today, TRX tomorrow? Some crazy Russian will surely do it.

Dana 60 front swap: ....would a solid front axle swap be sacrilegious or 'original'? https://www.wfoconcepts.com/p-35853-solid-axle-kits.html

Other shops for conversions ("reputable" aka: lots of magazine/YT and memorable SEMA coverage!).

RW shared this info…

From Robby :

“Hey partner, I appreciate your interest. We already have front differential gears available for the TRX and currently our rear end. Housing is an offering as a complete unit.

My question to you guys is are you interested in re-gearing your stock rear differential? There are no gears available for it and none of the gear manufacturers show any interest in doing so although I have found an alternative route where we could make Gears for around $3000 I know it’s an expensive gear set, but it’s a lot cheaper than a complete rear end”

Rear gears would cost 3k and the front we would have to get a completely new housing which I haven’t gotten the price for yet. I’ll be reaching back out soon. I know there’s been a few on here wanting higher gears.

Would this be like a buy one get one type deal? If so, we're in haha. We'd def be interested but might not be able to be a very early adopter given our current financial ruin at the moment 😂

74 weld…. Has a bit of a QC/engineering issue right now. There are two groups of customers: 1) they love the product and it’s awesome… or 2) they had QC or breakages and were hung out to dry

I’ve never used their product and was trying to get them to make them for another platform. They didn’t have an interest in that platform which isn’t a big deal.
So I’m only saying this based upon the rep going on SM. So it might all be bullshit.

As for RW gear sets:

Pros:
-might be the best way for anything other than a 3.90 ratio

-adds option for lsd in front diff and if you wanna spool in the rear

-the company he is using makes great stuff. Idk if mason will cut gears. He said he would make gears for another project. So not sure if RW is using him as a gear cutter for stock housings
Cons:

-look at what’s happening with nitro gears. So if RW doesn’t want to make the gears or the company that he sources the front diffs (I’m trying to remember the companies name) goes out of business/retires/decides not to make the parts anymore… then you are screwed.

On race vehicles, or hard use vehicles; gears wear out, gears chip teeth, cases explode. Especially when you are running large diameter tires and jumping.

A 37 tire cooking at 118 mph or 150 mph when you are tuned, when you jump the truck and when you land the ground speed is 75 mph. That is like your drivetrain hitting a cement wall. It will go from 118/150 mph to 75 mph in 0.1 seconds and it is usually the teeth on the ring gear that suffer. On the front I’ve seen casings eat it, cv’s spin, grenade at best.

I'd kill for a front ELSD. The BLD is pretty good on these trucks but man a true LSD with no brake vectoring would be sick

Side note: I reached out to 74weld about Rex portals just for S&Gs and never heard back.
