PSA - Update your Tom Tom maps (for free, no OTA)

Hi everyone. The Oceania download has about 8 files totalling just under 19GB. I have 3 problems;

  1. It takes forever to upload using USB 3.
  2. I put it to ignition ON (engine not running) and after some time, the whole system turns off, which stops the upload of the files. Meaning you have to re-start all over again.
  3. It now says that I dont have enough space to complete the upload.
I am trying again with a USB-C, so we will see how that goes.

Does anyone know how I can remove the US maps (since I'm in Australia) without going to a dealer?

Just wanted to pass along some information that @Jimmy07 posted on the 5th Gen forum. I had no idea that you can update the maps in your truck by yourself. Turns out you can, and it's easy.

Download the files from the site below, install onto a USB drive, insert into your truck, and 20-30 minutes later there are updated maps.
At this time, the latest maps are 2022-09 (I believe most recent trucks shipped with 2020-09).

How about system updates to the uconnect 5, is it possible to get it offline too?

See this thread - there are instructions (and a link) to manually download S26.15. I recommend reading the entire thread first, as Ram is not recommending the update due to battery draw issues.

The official channel is here:

I've only been able to download 1 update from this website for my 2018 DDSRT. Every other time I've received the "no update needed" message.

Is there a reason you did not start the engine and do the upload? This would have kept the timeout from occurring.

Now that we're back on topic lol, can anyone answer this question from earlier in the thread?

What did you select in the drop down menus? I did Ram - Ram - Uconnect5
That's correct.

Ziggy,

2 reasons.
1. I was trying not to annoy the neighbours as I have the AWE exhaust installed and a carport tyhat seems to act like an amplifier for some reason.
And 2. I am simply an idiot. I didn't think the upload was going to take so long. Clearly been a while since I have used a USB.

another option i use instead of the tom tom maps is the WAZE app. a lot easier to update my phone app than the UC5.

OK, good reasons. I just started my upload when I left work for the day and it was done before I got home.

Made a few attempts on downloading these 9 files. 1 at a time, each one says "failed"... I'm using the latest version of Firefox on Windows 7 (I know I'm old school).. any others have this issue of them failing to download?

I uploaded to Google Drive. You can try to download from here if you want.

Does it matter which usb port in the truck?

I appreciate the link, I probably won't use it, but thanks for the heads up.

I remember years ago I paid $2 to $300 for a map update...for the Wife's Acura, almost primarily so it didn't show our tract... As a huge green blob... Was still a big green blob after update.... :ROFLMAO: I think the tract was pushing 4-5 years old at this point.

I am really confused by all of what I have read and what has been posted regarding the TomTom mapping updates. I actually like the TomTom maps and subscribe to the service. From what I have been told, the maps are in a constant state of updating as you are using it so you always have the latest updated mapping information. With that said, I was told by RAM that the mapping version that came with my truck will not change (I have a 2022), because if you have the subscription, they are always the latest maps. WIth that said, there are still places that show up that have been closed for 5 years, however, is there anyone who can clarify that what I have stated is true? I am not sure RAM really knows since you get a different answer depending who you talk to. Am really impressed with the live updates while navigating. Came though Philadelphia on Friday night, and it was spot on with everything that was going on.

Thanks
