Possibly the coolest and easiest dash cam install ever

I finally pulled the trigger on a dashcam…Viofo A329S, 3 channel capable, but I am only using 2 channels…4K, 60fps, the video quality is bonkers good! I mean like better than any digital video I’ve seen from iPhones & such.

Here’s the thing…my set-up cost over $400. If I had stayed with just a front camera (like Fitcam), I would have gotten the Viofo A119 Pro, which can be purchased for $119, on sale. It’s a STEAL for the quality.

No, these are not OEM look, like Fitcam…but mounted to the right of the rear view mirror housing, they are invisible to the driver. Install takes minutes. They don’t recommend using the power from the rear view mirror housing, as they claim it is not reliable. I figure there is ADAS related equipment powered from that area & probably best not to mess with it.

So, I routed the cigarette lighter power across the dash, up the A-pillar & into the headliner. I did buy the $30 fuse tap kit with low voltage protection, but it’s only necessary if you want to use the “parking mode”. I figure leaving a $400 camera on the windshield will encourage a break-in, so not using that functionality.

As said above, FitCamX has an option for a rear camera.

I have installed 4 dash cams in 3 different auto brands using power from the rear view mirror without any issues over the last 5 years.
