Was it cold out? Did it lessen as the truck warmed up? Doesn't sound like the supercharger which is good. Hopefully its just a belt or pulley bearing.

Again, no expert, but it could mean that they are loose, or not enough lubrication. Could even be that a rod is bent or something in that system. The chattering there is something the dealer can certainly look at...but in my experience with my 2003 5.9 they had to crack the head gasket...wasn't lifters but rather a significant loss of compression, they xrayed the head and found bubbles in the cylinder wall.
Either way, they'll have to open up that engine so make sure if they do, that they seal it like it was at the factory.

Def report back when you get the diagnosis.
Would I be able to request a new truck if that’s the issue? Or at least a new engine?

It’s high 30s here but it doesn’t seem to get better as the engine warms up

Doubtful it’s anything that warrants a new engine or major component. My first thought would have been the pulley system but you say it’s coming from the back of the engine and not the front. I’m not familiar with the ZF tranny but it could be a loose converter bolt. It’s rotational and near the rear of the engine. With 45 miles on it I bet it would disappear after 200 more miles as everything that spins gets worn in. Still shouldn’t do it. Regardless don’t worry as it’s most likely nothing too serious. The drivetrain components of this truck have been around for years and should be easily sourced if a replacement is necessary. Let us know what you get told as I’m very curious. If you were close by I’d meet you to take a listen I’m not so good luck.

I really appreciate that. My girlfriend just said “it’s awesome to have a community of guys like that willing to help you”
I agree, you guys are awesome!

You got it man. Vehicle specific forums are a wealth of knowledge especially once everyone gets theirs and time goes by. Stick around and as questions pop up over the months/years this will be a great resource for ya. Thanks for being a part of it!

Sure sounds like an exhaust leak, maybe headers, maybe cats. If the sound gets louder but not faster “the clicking noise” that would policing me to the exhaust. Now if the noise increases RPM with RPM that may lead to engine noise.

Hopefully it’s exhaust and not engine, but with my luck they put 10 meth head hamsters 🐹 in my engine and their wheel broke

Exactly what I was thinking.

Early build, most likely an exhaust related issue they have been fixing at the plant...

I’m thinking it might be an exhaust issue on cold start up 20 degrees here in Wisconsin and mine has a similar sound that goes away eventually . Now I have to find a good dealer to service it since I bought the truck in Michigan
