Anyone have details on this? Says four trucks stolen this morning. With my luck, one was mine since I got a BS a week ago and no WS yet.

Asking my guys about it now. They were telling me the Stellantis CEO is at the plant this morning. I bet he not happy about this

4, wow. That tells you it's obviously not some dickhead, but an actual group of likely experienced car thieves. Crazy to see "theft rings" like this actually being a thing, as a legitimate income source for people in the USA. Fucking fucks.

Obvious question asked for the MILLION-th time.....
When is RAM going to provide better security systems on these trucks?
Glass break detection that deactivates the fuel pump would be nice. Thieves look at these trucks as a huge payday (hellcat engine and parts to strip). Easy to steal 8-10 per year and make decent money.

Making me want to stick a brick of C4 on the underside of my vehicle every night when I go to bed. Yeah you can take it, but boy are you gonna regret it.

Wow, Stolen right from under his nose. Hopefully this drives home 2 points:

a) These vehicles are highly targeted because they are easy to steal.
b) It's a bad idea to leave them sitting around, unsecured.

Why doesn't Ram allow owners to pick up their trucks from the assembly plant? Other manufacturers do it; the logistics have been established and the red tape has already been navigated. Seems like a win-win-win situation. Ram makes more money (they get to keep the $1800 destination charge for doing nothing), customers are happier because they get their vehicles sooner, and RAM doesn't have a huge liability sitting around.

i'm sure its some chain of custody thing with the dealerships, who knows. either way, yeah, way too easy to steal.

I wondered the same thing. Ridiculous that factory pickup hasn't been offered yet.

They could have a PDI building on site with a customer lounge to do the PDI on behalf of the dealerships. Electronic signatures and off you go.

I could of sworn they don't lock the vehicles and sometimes leave the keys in them depending on which lot they are in.

I think it's crazy Chevy still charges the destination cost if you pickup a c8 from the factory and also charge another 1k to do so.

The logistics on that is not as easy at it seems.....

Back in the day, I used to look at my vehicle out the window of the restaurant / Starbucks and admire it.
Now I look out the window to make sure some shithead is not trying to steal it!

What does that have to do with them stealing trucks with the keys in them from a secure lot? Thieves are as high tech as the factory is. As soon as they add a theft deterrent, thieves will have a way around in in a week. Hell they will just pick it up with a tow truck an tow it to the chop shop.

Those factory pickups with the C8 actually look pretty cool, but hell I would gladly pay an extra $1k to pick my truck up from the KC rail yard 😂

. . .reached out to my sales fella and he told me that the dealers that were affected by these latest thefts have already been notified and that my truck was not one of them (whew).

Talking to my guys at the plant, no talk of trucks stolen from there. They might have been taken from one of the shipping yards they send TRX's to.

Many of these get put in a container and shipped to Eastern Europe where they sell for double us price

Funny the insurance qoute on mine from USAA was surprisingly low
Mine was low but I think the cost is low because they think these are just regular Ram 1500's when I got my quote last year. My Challenger Hellcat was way higher than my TRX even though my TRX is 20k more expensive with the same engine.

Keys were in the trucks, missed that in the post (must have been telepathy on your part). Sounds like I need to head to Sterling Heights for a free TRX!
But outside the storage lots....... there is a BIG difference between 2 guys driving around with a laptop, break a side window, crawl in and start the truck in 2-3 minutes. Compared to the public spectacle of dragging the TRX up onto a flat bed tow truck........or crawling under it, jacking up the back, placing the trollies under the back tires and lifting the front. It also depends on where the truck is parked.

The trick is making it more difficult (not impossible) to steal, compared to something else. If its just inevitable, we should all leave our trucks unlocked with the key in it and leave our houses unlocked too. I don't subscribe to "inevitable".
