Mopar Driveshaft Clunk Repair

I've got the same part # driveshaft. May 2022 build date. Small clunk has started around 2k miles. Keep us posted on whether you end up with another clunker lol

That supercession started April 4 2022. The TSB applies to vehicles built before Feb 21 2022. This is a little tricky to interpret. Something changed Feb 21st with the new rigs that solved the problem but it was not the drive line. Other wise the dates would some what match up. Yes that is a new part number but due to the time frame of its implementation it cannot be said that it is an improved drive line or that it has anything to do with the TSB. It could be the result of something unrelated like a part that makes it up was sourced from a new vendor or something changed in the packaging. Like now it comes with lube that needs to be used at time of install.

That is very true. All that matters is that the service writer can reproduce the concern.

My truck was built in April of 2022, and I have this clunk, does it even if I baby the truck, and I only have 2300 miles.. hoping dealer got the kit we ordered last month.. that way when they drive it, they have the part there to fix it, plus fix the missing lights in the rear doors. Lol

My bad, I quoted the wrong post earlier. This is the kit that I ordered. Says it is for 21 and 22 TRX. Be interesting to see what I actually receive. Total was $5.90 with tax and shipping. Wonder what I will get?

6,000 ish miles later the clunk has returned. I’ve got 19,000 miles on the truck now. I’m going to wait until the 20,000 mile mark when I get the oil changed and have them look at it again. My service department has been great to me, so I’m guessing they will confirm the issue and order another driveshaft. Maybe this one will have a new number and do the trick?

I just ’installed’ my kit and noticed an immediate improvement. I am cautiously optimistic it will last longer than a few thousand miles. Time will tell.

UPDATE: I now have 11,000+ miles on this new grease kit and have not had the clunk return.

I had mine done at 6982 miles on 9-16-22 It is now 5-5-23 and 10363 miles. Sadly I am feeling it on hot days. It is very mild at this point. I will be keeping an eye on it. I will be putting some stress on the parts this weekend. I am participating in a night time off road event called the rocket run.

I will be putting some stress on the parts this weekend. I am participating in a night time off road event called the rocket run.

you know what, i have noticed its more. noticeable on hotter days, esp. in heavy traffic. I havent been commuting to work for the last few weeks and havent noticed the clunk at all when just bee-bopping around town w/the kiddos. One time we hit traffic on a hot afternoon and the clunk (abeit light) said hello a few times lol

I had a customer come in today stating his clunk has returned as well. The symptom is identical to mine and Blaster9. We had replaced his drive line after the TSB was done due to the clunk not being resolved with the TSB. We are referring the customer to Ram Cares to open a case. I will be doing the same. I suggest anyone who is experiencing the return on this issue do that same. @RamCares I would like to ask a somewhat technical question of you. Are these slip yokes nickel plated?

Does anyone have a link or copy of the latest TSB for the drive line clunk issues so I can print it out and take to the dealer?

My service rep at my local Ram dealer seemed clueless and didn't even try to find the TSB when I referenced the problem.

My post wasn't clear, RamCares told me the clunk is not normal, my dealer is saying the clunk is normal. Dealer is being adamant that it is normal in these trucks due to the awd system.

I just copied and pasted my reply from there;

I have a 2022 manufactured Dec 2022 that was delivered on 15 Jan 2023 and I don't have any noticeable clunking. The Star Online Publication S2121000015 REV B. released July 2022 refers to only Driveshafts, PN's, 53011135AC, AD and AE.

My Driveshaft PN is 53011135AF. So that is/must be the latest updated Driveshaft, hence the revised PN. Now, whether or not there was a modification included with that PN for this issue is unknown to me. Also, whether or not there was another revision to that particular Star Online Publication is unknown to me.

There was another document, Technical Service Bulletin 03-004-22 dated 4 August 2022 that supposedly superseded the above-mentioned Star Online Publication and specifically referred to vehicles manufactured on/prior to 21 February 2022.

So, in my OPINION, if you have this issue, your vehicle manufacture date is on/prior to 21 February 2022 and you have one of those PN's mentioned above, get them to replace the driveshaft with the latest PN, that will at least give you peace of mind that the latest resolution to the problem is completed on your truck. (Whether or not it fixes the issue)

It is correct that a new drive line will NOT fix the issue. From talking to a few of the Raptor guys and watching a few videos I have a suspicion that a nickel plated slip yoke may be the cure. Don't take that to the bank just yet. I have more checking to do.

Yea I covered this topic last year and pointed to Ford changing the hardness on their yokes via a change in their plating to solve their problem. Someone chimed in and also talked about cerakoat for our yokes but it never went anywhere. Trust me this issue has been beat to death for 2 years and hit from every angle.

Our dealership replaced the AC with the AF for the customer we referred to Ramcares.
