Group Buy #1: RB Performance Brakes 4-Piston BBK For 18" Wheels Q1 2024 (CLOSED)

1. I'll reach out to Warren to try and get weight values for the larger rotors. From my understanding, the added weight is the only negative. It will probably end up weighing a pound or two more per rotor ring but you'll gain even more thermal mass. I personally think in this situation the trade off is worth it. The sample adapters should be arriving today for RB to confirm a final physical fitment check. RB will be using an OEM wheel to test so I would highly recommend anyone with aftermarket wheels to use the fitment template to check clearance. Not all 18" wheels are created equal.

2. No ETA yet, I'll reach out for more information too. I agree, I would do everything in one install.
Will you be doing a group buy on the 17” option now that we have a March available date?

Update: 1/24/24
A wheel clearance test is performed today with a prototype caliper adaptor.
  • Test was done with a feeler gage for the tightest spot between the caliper body and the wheel barrel.

  • The clearance is measured as 5.34mm (0.21")

  • Behind the scene.

This brake project works better than expected (eg. Actual clearance & GB).

The caliper adaptor design will be finalized for the production release, so we are still looking for a shipment in about 3-4 weeks.

A big thanks to all GB participants and Steve for his effort in organizing it and answering all questions.

We look forward to working with your on ordering and shipment.

Hi Warren. From these tests, could you confirm if the Track rotors would fit under OEM wheel?

Downsizing the factory wheel is not a good idea especially for TRX, just like other trucks and SUV, it has a beefy (big, heavy & bulky) hub spindle, wheel bearing, and brake proportional to it load and HP - Mechanical is NOT Electronic.
Questions:

1. What's the motivation for going down to 17".
2. Any other aftermarket kits available.
3. How many TRX owners are interested in this.
4. Those who are looking for downsize ever considered compromising the safety at the same time.

17" brake kits are for those popular track cars like Subie WRX/STi, Mitus EVO 8/9/20, Nissan 350Z, Infinite G35, BMW M3, Mazda RX8 etc. back in early 2000 which RB was highly involved but realize those front brakes are even smaller than today sports cars' REAR brake.

If you and other TRX owners have compelling reasons to have 17" kit and with the understanding of consequence in downsizing their brakes, we can look into it but it will be a major challenge for the involvement, and the cost will be higher than the standard 18" kit being offered.
I went 17's so for the smoother ride and extra side wall in my opinion the ride is significantly smoother off-road especially when running baja mode which is very stiff. I didn't do any fancy kit I just took a grinder to my stock caliper and have been running my 17's without issue for over 10k miles so far. I also drag race and make some very hard stops as my local track has a short shut down.

Hi Warren. From these tests, could you confirm if the Track rotors would fit under OEM whee
The 380x34mm rotor option was removed due to the clearance to caliper groove wall gets a bit too close which can be a concern during heat expansion and corning.
Being the rotor in the kit is 2mm thicker than OE, and the cooling vanes are directional which can provide a far more efficient heat dissipation so you should have no concern of overheating, but if you ever run into it just let us know and we will correct it.

Thank you for sharing.
Do you also have to graind down the rear calipers?

Any pics of the calipers?

Not only RB offers you a 100% transparency in product and price* but a "Worry and Regret Free" purchase. If you don't think this is the best value kit you ever purchased, and it does not outperform and outlast ANY competitor's kit just contact us for a return.

* Direct mfgr. price from RB, not available from any dealers.

As the kits do not include rear pads are we to use the rear oem pads on our current brakes?

Well works kept me busy and unfortunately the Volk TE37XT will not work according to the template. I was super hopeful that it would.

I measured everything out to make sure the template was correct which it was. Unless I’m doing something wrong lol!

At least these wheels are super light compared to stock, so I guess that’s a win.

On the other hand, I’m currently working with a reputable company in making me a new set of wheels in 18’s so I might revisit this soon. Last picture is a sample of the wheel we’re working on. It’ll be 18X9 with a negative offset TBD so the truck has a better looking stance.

Your wheel center hole is much larger than OE hub which can give you the same exact misleading feedback as our test on this 17" aftermarket rim we just tested.
You should modify the template as follows:
eg If your hub hole dia. is 108mm, you should add (108-78)/2 = 15mm spacer to the corner to make it like OE center hole and and re-test it.
I am pretty certain that this RB 18" brake kit should fit your wheels without clearance issue.
Once confirmed you still can sign up on #2 GB here (before 2/5/24).

Thank you so much for the response!

I just pulled the center bore size from the website for the wheels and it looks like it’s 112 so the kit should work, but I’ll re-measure again to be 100% accurate.

FYI out of 10 orders we have:
  • 5 - Red
  • 3 - Silver
  • 2 - Black
  • 1 - Yellow
Powder costing is scheduled for next week, so we are looking pretty good in Mid Feb shipment.

You should be good with your 18" for this kit.
Still have vacancy here for the GB pricing, this GB is due to close 2/5/24.

Cool, ship the red kits first 😜

Understand how RB brake kit you ordered comparing to OE and other aftermarket kits in brake bias.
brake-bias.png

RB brake bias is same as OE while adding 5.8% area to the stock system.
Adding too much and shifting more bias towards the front will cause "front biased" which is highly undesirable especially under high speed or panic stops (nose dive).

Any word as to when this first group is going to ship out to us?

RB has received the calipers and now needs to finalize logo printing(if the option is selected in your order), assembly, and hydro testing. The SS brake lines are still trying to be sourced and will more than likely be shipped separately as mentioned in the disclaimer on the product page. "I Understand It's Subject To Availability And May Ship Separately After the Brake Kit"

"No ETA on the brake line. Inquired to several possible vendors (including our usual brake line vendor & a local shop), but so far no luck - The closest one is making for RAM 1500 but he confirmed it's not compatible with TRX, he even said one TRX customer tried to install 1500 line but had to return it due to fitment issue."
Spiegler in Ohio is a custom brake line manufacture and also HEL performance. We use both in our race builds.
If logos are a holdup please make mine without a logo then.
