Driveshaft TSB

I saw the bulletin on Facebook and did a screenshot. I just got mine replaced today. I told my service writer about the bulletin and she basically ignored me. The technician did a good job and said that my old driveshaft splines were trashed. There is a huge difference in drivability, I think I was adjusting driving style to reduce the shock on the drivetrain. It is much smoother.

I saw this on Facebook last week and nothing has been posted here. It looks like they will replace your driveshaft if your TRX was manufactured prior to Sept. 27 2022 or if your vehicle exhibits symptoms of the clunk.
Is this a new revised driveshaft or is is the same replacement they have been using all along?

Thank you for the post. Last vehicle service I complained about the rear end clunk and the technician "didn't find one," it was during cooler weather and wasn't as bad as in the summer. the last version of this TSB was basically just a grease fix so I didn't push the issue since the problem was at least documented with the dealership.
Well fast forward I saw this post before scheduling my next service completed yesterday. I spoke with the service manager and nicely informed him "fuck if you find a clunk or not my driveshaft is being replaced" that's what I actually wanted to say anyway haha. Well I told him I have the TSB in hand and he looked it up and said he would have the driveshaft inspected to see if it was the old one. And just like that there is now an updated driveshaft ordered with zero issues this time around. Not holding my breath that it fixes the problem but it's at least progress.

Friends, I started having the clunk sound about 3 weeks ago. Stopped by the dealership on lunch break. Service dept. ordered new driveshaft and installed the next week. Zero cost and no more clunk. Lasted 54,000 miles.

Just got off the phone with a friend who is a CDJR mechanic. He said my truck does not qualify for this TSB but there is another TSB regarding the clunk and the fix is to put anti seize grease on the splines.

They have already re-greased the splines with the standard Ford grease and the clunk came back. However, since this problem is documented with my truck, they would cover the driveshaft replacement if I wanted. May as well have them do it.

Has anyone had RAM install the anti seize on the splines?

I had the grease kit done twice. Both times it only lasted a few months. I still have a kit that I never got around to putting on. With the new driveshaft I'm hoping that kit will stay in the box. :)

Dropped mine off this morning for the clunk, hopefully an easy update. The SA had zero idea what I was talking about and ended up having to show him the TSB as he insisted there was no way a driveshaft would cause that sound…. So not a great start.

Question for any nor cal bay area guys. So far been to 2 different dealerships in the south bay for the clunk. Both dealerships seem to ignore the tsb and everytime say they can't replicate the clunk.

What dealerships have any of you had a good experience with getting it fixed.

Thanks,Chris

Finally looked under the truck this weekend and I do in fact have the AF revision of the driveshaft. Mine was clunk free for about 8 months. Then came back with this shaft.

I pulled the shaft and greased it with Schaeffer 238 NLGI#2 which has a decent amount of moly in it. So far so good after about 6 months and a very hot AZ summer.

I waited for the new one for a week or two. Half day to install once I dropped it off

Less than a week earlier this summer

Have any guys with the East Coast drive shafts, that experienced the problem with their factory shaft seen good results long term?

Looking for some insight…After two driveshaft re-grease repairs at the dealer I’m finally getting a new driveshaft installed this week. Anyone know if there is a part I should be on the lookout for? Does this actually fix the clunk? Anything I should know to influence my service manager?

Had mine done about 6 weeks ago, have had zero clunks since. Dealer knew all about it and had access to the TSB info, was easy other then took 4 weeks for the part to get in.

Thanks. Appreciate you sharing. The Dealer said the part should be in tomorrow so fingers crossed. Hopefully this solves the problem.

I get my TSB done on Friday. What's different about the new drive shaft?

After about a year with the new driveshaft and my clunk is slowly coming back. I don't think this is going to be the permanent fix we had all hoped for. I think the latest version is AF.

I am now over a year and 10k miles with my forth shot at different greases. No sign of the clunk returning. It took about 6-8k miles for the clunk to come back on the AF driveshaft so I’m hopeful this is finally the long term solution.

Got mine back took a look at the updated driveshaft. The new one they put on has less balance weights on it. Old was the AE/AC had 6 weights 3 front 3 back varying sizes new is the AF/AD and has 3 weights 2 up front and 1 large at the back. Not sure if this is common maybe they are getting them refined less off balance. The new one also has some marring I can only think was from it slipping in the chuck when being balanced. My original one started clunking at 10k, then actually went away by time they got new one in for the swap at 12k. Also seemed to clunk less in the cold, temps in my area dropped so most likely why it stopped on the old one. I will let you all know when I'm at 22k if it comes back. Think the best fix they could do is just a simple grease zerk fill it up at oil changes but don't think they will go simple.
