Dram of the Day

Fantastic. I actually ordered that last night after falling in love with the Aberlour. 61.5%, can it actually go down easy?

Shipping from England so should be here in January. 2022 is already looking up!
It is clearly potent, but with a little added water or melted cube it is surprisingly smooth for 61.5%. I really enjoyed it.

Noted. I had assumed foggy moss was peat. Sorry, total ignorance here. Tomorrow there will be peat!

I have enjoyed some great posts in this thread over the last two years. Nothing I was educated enough to reply to, but thoroughly enjoyed all the same. Soulsea's Blantons smackdown and the epic counter attack by Jackson come to mind.

I don't know what you're talking about. :ROFLMAO:

Holy crap that was fun. My wife still describes me "feverishly typing" one evening. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

One of the 3 little bottle gift set a buddy gave me for helping him do a full fluid change service on his Tundra in my shop. Came with An Oc, Wee Beastie and the 10 year! Islays are so good! I have to say that everything I have tried from Ardbeg has been excellent and that they take the gold as far as smokey peat goes! Hope all are having a great night!

Anything from Lagavulin, Ardbeg and Laphroaig are peat and smoke kings! I was recently gifted a little 200ml bottle of Ardbeg Wee Beastie and its really great. This thread is great to browse if you like sampling new drams. Awesome group to post with!
I recommend Highland Park 18! Spent 3 years in Scotland becoming a Single Malt Whisky snob...because the beer sort of sucked! This is the Northern most distillery and is only "half" peaty! I have found that anything 16+ years old is worth the extra money!! My cabinet always has either Balvenie or Macallan, Highland Park, and Lagavulin so that I can show newbies the different tastes without scaring them away with a peat monster! The best whisky I EVER had was a 25 year old Balvenie...it was for my military retirement of 25 years! It's the only whisky my wife did not give me to finish!
Happy sipping and I hope everyone enjoys the Holidays.

For Peat sake. I thought four o'clock would never come.

Today's dram is Ardbeg Uigeadail. I don't have a clue how to pronounce Uigeadail, but that's all the bad I can say about this Ardbeg. It is another fabulous Scotch, though totally different than the last three samplings.

This Ardbeg came with a smell enhancing glass but it does not need help being smelled. It is a strong 'smoke' or peat odor. On first smell I assumed the flavor would over power me. I was wrong. Very smooth in the mouth with no burn despite it's 54.2% strength. Aftertaste is extremely pleasant with warmth arriving about 5 seconds after you swallow (is that how women talk about sex?).

First 4cl almost gone and I now love the way this glass delivers the aroma to my nose. This gets better with every sip. I better ensure Kato is on-call in case I need a ride home. Pouring glass two now.

Sad Story. I also poured this Lagavulin 16 with the idea of comparing the two but that idea has failed miserably. This bottle of Lag had been opened and slowly drank over the last four years. I think it lost its punch. Compared side by side the Lag has almost no oder and is almost tasteless. I sip it and immediately miss the Ardbeg's aggressive awesomeness. It's not the Lag I remember from years past so we will punt on this project.

So far I have tried four fantastic Scotches and have loved them all. I almost gave them all away. I can't believe how good they are. Each is so different it's difficult to compare them, but I will try my best tomorrow.

Tomorrow we will start the fancy bottle of Lagavulin and then compare to this Ardbeg Uigeadail.

Merry Christmas you guys!

I'm glad you are enjoying all those awesome bottles at your disposal!!! Lagavulin 16 is probably my favorite scotch, but like all drams....it's always personal preference! I'm looking forward to your comparison between the Ardbeg and Lagavulin! I love them both..... Cheers!

Yup...Whisky will go bad if left in sunlight, and/or once it's opened. A 3/4 full bottle, with a good cork, may last a year. A 1/4 bottle maybe months, due to more oxidation. When my bottles get low I usually invite friends over for a cigar and to finish off the bottle before it goes bad! I hope you can find some Highland Park 18...it's not stupid expensive, and I think you'll enjoy it's medium peat nose and flavor.

Argon gas brotha - shoot a bottle and a 1/4 bottle can last 2-3 years without oxidation.

Usually a bourbon guy but I bough this advent wine thing for me and my wife to do every night after the kids go to bed… we’ll got it last week and started so we each had one a night until Christmas but we went on vacation for a few days without it and she hasn’t liked any and I’m not gonna waste money so I’m trying to catch up tonight… so far, 1 has been good…I think!

Little pre xmas day treat.

I cracked open my bottle of 21 WR MC and used the Peg leg, which has become one of new go to dailys, as a reference.

Boy oh boy that is interesting and delicious stuff. Free of bourbon appellation limitations it has an unusual and complex taste profile with a lot of smokiness and fruitiness along with good bite. It is a fantastic whiskey and I highly recommend it if you score a bottle at or close to msrp.
